I read all the reviews here before taking my bike into the shop to have some minor repairs and a tune up done. I found the weekend staff to be extremely friendly and acknowledged my presence in the store immediately and asked if there was anything they could help me with. The made the necessary repairs to my bike, performed a routine tune up and then test drove my bike to make sure everything was working properly. All of this was done and my bike returned on a Saturday afternoon. I will definitely be back and will recommend Kevin’s to everyone I know in town.

Great group of individuals to work with. I had a few bikes that needed to be repaired and they were very responsive to my needs and were able to take care of me very quickly.

I have been here a few times and usually get good service. Their merchandise prices are pretty fair compared to online or other bike shops. Their prices on repairs however are a bit high.

I took 2KHS bikes into Kevin’s Bike shop early Tuesday afternoon and I received a call they were done on Wednesday morning! Where does this ever happen? Dwight greeted us and we told him what the problems were on each bike. Dwight told me he would examine the bikes and would call me with an estimate. He called within an hour with what I believed was a very reasonable estimate(much lower than I anticipated). This is my first time using Kevin’s and won’t be the last time. Outstanding service! Wish all business would be operated like Kevin’s.

All employees are courteous and friendly… did not try to upsell me, and found a used part in stock to fix my bike. Owner was kind and patient with my small children and me :) best bike store around!

I’ve been shopping for a road bike for over 3 weeks in the Bay Area. I’m originally from Merced and my sister recommended Kevin’s Bikes because she’s had good experiences with them. Upon arrival my nephew and I were greeted cautiously and the young gentlemen that helped us was very helpful. After selecting a couple of bikes for possible purchase I was ready to take them out for a test ride. As we were walking out of the store a lady came all the way from the back of the store to tell us that we could not take two bikes out at a time(mind you that the other bike did not even have pedals installed). I immediately felt like we were prejudicially targeted. I asked the young gentlemen about this policy and he stated he had never heard of such policy. My girlfriend and I have been to various bike shops and tested bikes at the same time without a problem. One would expect that if you are getting ready to invest $ 2−3k on a bike you would receive stellar service. I most definitely will never recommend this place to any of my friends and family and I will have my sister stop buying from them. I’ve had plenty of bike shop experiences to say that Kevin’s bikes was the worst experience.

I have been a small-item customer for a while. Recently brought in a frame needing help to build up(internal cabling). I was surprised they wanted to keep the bike overnight, but they ended up doing it on the spot. I wanted to watch and noticed the worker really taking the time to address any small details(greasing, aligning, bolting in a X-pattern at different increments) Will come back!

My boyfriend ordered be a Specialized mountain bike off of their catalog and received excellent customer service from all of the staff here. The order and processing was easy and flawless. It arrived less than a week after he ordered it and was assembled as soon as it arrived. When we went to go pick it up, we were warmly greeted and they brought my bike out right away. They were very helpful about answering any questions. They have an excellent selection of bikes and I love that they decorated the shop with some vintage attire and bikes.

I went to UC Merced for five years. Often went to Kevins Bikes for repairs, tune ups, to buy a bike and for general advice. All of the staff were always super genuine and friendly. Great place to take your business to. If I was still in Merced I would highly recommend supporting this local bike shop.

This is one of the few pleasant places to do business with in Merced. The owners are there most of the time and they care about their business. So customer service is very good and the products they sell here are between average to high in quality. They also have competent bike repairmen working here. And this could save some headache and time.

Always great service! Kevin has vast knowledge and experience, and his a master at finding those annoying creeks and squeaks that develop over time. His prices are fair and his bikes are quality(unlike the Target, Walmart and Costco stuff). I would definitely recommend Kevin’s Bikes for all your cycling needs.

I don’t know what’s with the«bad service» posts, but both Kevin & his wife have been extraordinarily kind to me when I’ve gone in, about half a dozen times now. They’ve done great work on both my bikes & sold me locks at excellent prices. I definitely recommend this shop. As far as some of their products(such as the bikes themselves) being expensive, they are a small business that doesn’t make what WalMart makes — considering they have to pay their rent & taxes too, I’m sure they aren’t inflating to «rip off» their customers, but to stay afloat(like nearly all independent businesses in Merced — a city which of course isn’t known for its great economic success). And as for anyone who has posted here saying Kevin or his wife didn’t sell them the«right» product or sold them different shoes than they later found out they were supposed to get — here’s a tip: RESEARCHWHATYOUBUYBEFOREYOUBUYIT. Clearly you have access to the internet — USE it. Find out what you need before you go into ANY shop and throw your money down. But most of all, take some personal responsibility when you fail to do so instead of issuing blame on small businesses.

Nice shop, knowledgeable staff. I am usually the one who has to bring in my husband’s bike for repairs/purchases due to his work schedule and they have been nothing but helpful, especially as I have no clue about anything bike related. Kevin himself also unloaded/loaded the bike from my car for me, which was I was grateful for, as I am kind of a wuss with lifting things.

Reading the other reviews, you can tell, sometimes people have an ax to grind. It’s as simple as that(you can usually tell which ones they truly are). I had a bike emergency(for me), my chain broke, my dérailleur arm broke in two, a couple of spokes broken… Long story short, I really thought I was in for a long wait and a lot of scratch out of my pockets. I knew of Kevin’s Bikes, but I always thought it was too pricey for me. I called at 5:20PM, knowing they close at 6:00PM, and it’s a 10 minute drive. Figured I’d get it back in a week or so anyhow. I walk in with my injured bike, one of the workers told me the dérailleur arm would need to get ordered. Kevin comes out of no where, says he might have one. 30 minutes later, chain fixed, dérailleur arm replaced, spokes replaced, wheels trued, everything calibrated and in perfect condition. At about $ 50 under what I expected. If you don’t get good customer service, you’re probably in the wrong place(Did you accidentally stop in the Sav-Mart next door?). Every time I’ve been in Kevin’s, it’s a really relaxed environment, everyone is nice, customer service is excellent, prices are a bit steep, but don’t fool yourself, it’s really that way anywhere in the quality bike industry. You do get what you pay for, and here you’re getting a bargain with world class customer service.

We kept having trouble with flat tires on my bike and finally brought it to the professionals at Kevin’s Bikes. Kevin not only pointed out that the bike tube another vendor(Sports Authority) replaced, was the wrong size but also he inspected the tire and found a pin lodged in the tire which was the reason for all the flat tires. Thanks for the thorough work and attention to detail.

Kevin’s Bikes is definitely one of the best bike shops in the valley just based on their customer service, Kevin and his wife are always there every time I go in and are both very helpful. I went in looking for a midrange mountain bike based off of my friends advice and ending up buying a 2010 specialized rockhopper. They had it out on the floor for $ 730 and Kevin ended up giving it to me for $ 650 due to the new 2011 models coming out soon, he also put it on layaway for me which was awesome because I didnt have to worry about someone else buying it while I saved up the money. Their prices are a little higher than online stores but their price matching and lifetime tune up of their bikes more than make up for it. The day I went in to pick up the bike Kevin made sure it was tuned up and ready to ride and later the same day I took it out for its first trail riding. I have since purchased new pedals from Kevin’s with the help of one of the younger guys in the shop and he recommended some great pedals which I now love. I plan on going back for most of my parts and service needs. Kevin’s is awesome.

Located smack dab in the middle of Merced, Kevin’s bikes, to me, has always been a helpful and reasonably priced place for bike repairs and products. Very clean and well lighted, it’s half new bike show room half repair center. Got a wheel balanced her for a tad over 15 as well as a handful of tubes for less then 5 each. Got a free lecture about the importance of proper inflation and placement of tire liners to prevent my numerous blowouts at the same time. And I always see them sponsoring community events and hosting bike rides around town for causes and for fun.

For the best selection of bicycles in town, Kevin’s is the place to go. There are Road bikes, mountain bikes, cruisers, kid’s bikes, and specialty bikes. The store also does repairs in a timely fashion, and sells accessories. The staff are friendly and the owner seems to know a lot about bikes(I hear he’s a cyclist). I helped my friend buy a cruiser with a basket there, and I’ve gotten accessories there. Not über-cheap, but affordable.
