JayMarc Homes

I’m writing this review with mixed emotions. I recently bought a JayMarc home and thought my family and I had hit the jackpot. We were highly impressed with the floor plan, high end finishes, and friendly staff. We are a younger couple, and have two young children. This was our first home purchase and after looking at homes all over the area, we fell absolutely in love with JayMarc. Needless to say, that has all changed.
About three months after moving into our house our sewage pump ejector in our basement began having problems. Through the course of the next 10 months I had JayMarc’s plumbers, Monarch Plumbing, out to service the pump over 10 times. For those of you who are not familiar with a sewage pump ejector, let me explain. One of the reason I loved the house was because of the floorplan. It had a gorgeous daylight basement. This meant that the toilet in the basement was below grade, so a pump was installed to shoot all the sewage up. Finally, after the pump alarm going off non-​stop, a minor overflow, and plumbers out every other month, my patience in my brand new house was running thin. I reached out to the owner, Marc Rousso. He responded very quickly, and seemed as though he really wanted to resolve the problem as much as I did. JayMarc had someone come and camera the lines to make sure there was nothing stuck. They found nothing. I worked really close with Michael from JayMarc, as he was the one who was there with me during all the visits with the plumbers. After having the lines camera, Michael suggested to just replace the whole pump. I agreed, feeling as though I had a faulty one.
About two months later, before the new pump could get installed we had a huge overflow. The pump is hidden in my 3 year old’s closet. Meaning, her entire bedroom and belongings in the bedroom had to be tossed. The flood also lead out into the hallway. I called Michael right away with extreme frustration. I do believe Michael genuinely wanted to help the situation and felt bad. On the phone, he argued that a new pump had already been installed. I told him that a new pump had never been installed. This was the same pump I bought the house with, and a new pump was ordered but never put in. I was correct. He came out that day which was on a Sunday, to have the damp carpet, carpet padding, and wood molding pulled out of the house right away. I appreciated Michael’s quick action. He also had Monarch Plumbing come out the following day, Monday. About 30 minutes of the plumber being there, Michael called my husband and me downstairs to the backyard. Sitting there was the grinder from the pump. The grinder is a small component in the pump that essentially breaks down any sewage for easy travel. In the grinder was a white rag of some sort, possibly baby wipes, and a huge framing nail. The rag or baby wipes, whatever JayMarc wants to call it made absolutely no sense to me. I don’t use washcloths, or do I even own any white washcloths. I also don’t use baby wipes on my children’s bottom. My children are 3 and 5, and way beyond diapers. Yes, I have baby wipes in my house but I have never witnessed anyone putting them down the toilet. Ever. I don’t use flushable wipes either. After going through possible scenarios of what this white material could be, the plumber said in front of my husband, Michael, myself, and his coworker, that they will just install the new pump that had been sitting on his desk because they never did. Also, the framing nail inside the grinder lead me to believe that this was an issue that occurred during construction.
Michael explained to us that JayMarc wasn’t pointing the finger as to who is responsible for the overflow, and that they will be taking care of all repairs and reimbursing us for all of the items that had to be disposed of. I felt like JayMarc was really trying the make things right. A few hours later, I received an email from Ron at JayMarc stating that going forward the repairs would be at our expense. After having my husband talk with Marc Rousso, questioning the framing nail, this being our original pump, and consistent ongoing problems, Marc didn’t seem to care. I was filled with disappointment. This had been an ongoing issue for almost the course of us living in our brand new home. If JayMarc was going to go as far as camera the lines, why was the grinder never took out? I feel like there was poor communication between JayMarc and their plumbers, and error during construction, and now my family and I were paying for it.
Overall, I’m dejected. I wish JayMarc and I could’ve came to a resolution that we both felt good about. As much as I love what JayMarc the company stands for, I can’t help but feel like they fell short on my family and I.

I would like to believe that I would be a tough critic on a home builder. Since I’ve been in the mortgage industry for over 10 years and have helped hundreds of homeowners buy new homes, I experience first-​hand the process on a daily basis. Not to mention that every home I’ve purchased has always been new construction (not a trend I’ve intended to keep but is true).
Jay Marc goes above and beyond what I ever expected from a builder. First, new homes are never perfect. I’ve learned this. The quality of the work will limit the fixes and more importantly, the service will show how much the builder cares to please the client AFTER they’ve received their money. Jay Marc has gone above and beyond to please long after closing.
First, the home was beautifully built and the «Standard» features Jay Marc puts in their homes exceed most new homes that have upgrades. Their standard is simply higher than their competitors.
Second, their service in delivering the home and making sure the buyer is happy is second to none. Our home had a few issues during the walk through and they did everything they could to please. Our home was a great value and there’s no question they could’ve played hardball with us but it never seemed to be an option to them. We were a customer, they wanted us happy and they did everything to make this happen. Wonderful experience.
The last new home I purchased was the exact opposite experience, which came from a different builder (not Jaymarc). They never responded after closing. It was so bad that I wondered if buying a new house would be that way every time, but Jaymarc proved otherwise and I would never hesitate to buy from them again.
From someone who has bought new homes and facilitated these purchases multiple times, I can say that not all builders are the same. I believe most homebuyers have very high expectations when buying a new home including myself. I can confidently say that I would look to Jaymarc for my next home (if I ever move again).
