Established in 2007.

CEO and Owner Nancy Gordon has affectionately been known as the Lice Lady by her friends for many years. In 2007, at the suggestion of a friend, she decided to open a business so that she could help more people dealing with head lice infestations. She has a tested and proven protocol and has been able to share her knowledge with hundreds of customers.

Nancy Gordon started this business in 2007 after helping friends and neighbors get rid of their head lice issues for years. She is a mom of two children and is also a founding parent of the Academy for Precision Learning, an inclusion based school that has typical children learning side-​by-​side with children with autism. Nancy’s 10 year old son Josh has ASD and that is the main reason she is so committed to getting families lice free using natural and organic products instead of yucky pesticides. 10% of all profits are donated to the Academy for Precision Learning. Nancy is also committed to helping other children’s organizations and will always donate to your organization’s auction or other fundraising efforts.

We got an appointment immediately after finding the lice so it was possible to take care of the problem right away. Everyone was friendly and helpful and one day later we are live free. Yeah!

Our family had a great experience with Lice Knowing You. When you find the need for their services, it’s an emergency and they were there on a Sunday when we needed them. My wife and daughter had a lice issue and their team was very professional, helpful and accommodating when we needed their help. They also offered some great advice for making sure the lice were gone for good and we never had a reoccurrence. If you want the lice gone for good, definitely give these guys a call.

I came here today (Monday, 1÷1÷16) at around 5:00 PM to stop by to pick up some items because a co-​worker had highly recommended them. I glanced at their Unilocal page, and saw they were open until 6:00. As a teacher, a student in my class reported lice today, and I wanted to get something to prevent getting it! So, I decided to stop by on my way home.
When I walked in 3 people who worked there all turned to stare at me immediately. They said nothing and just stared. I said, «I am just here to pick up a few things.» They reply, «We are closed. We are only open by appointment.» I replied that their website said they were open until 6. They replied back, «by appointment only.» I said that I had read on Unilocal that they were open until 6… and I hear… «by appointment only.» I looked around for a minute, got my hair spray with some help from the one girl at the cash register, and bought it and walked out. I was there for maybe a total for 3 minutes. The women at the cash register was kind when I bought my item.
Overall — I was shocked to be treated this way, and would not recommend them, nor will I return with any business. Do not go here. Just buy online. Or maybe try the Seattle store?

The guarantee is a gimmick. They will promise to accommodate your family’s schedule for the required checks and rechecks. Then after you’ve paid for treatment they magically have no appointments and will only do free required rechecks at very restricted times.
It took a half hour for anyone to acknowledge our arrival despite my trying to get someone’s attention. I later noticed I was charged for some of that time on my receipt. The salon was very crowded and the workers seemed rushed. they were very thorough though. One poor little girl was crying because the worker seemed upset and very rough on her, complaining that she hated treating long hair. I would have been furious if I was her mother, especially when the girls mom was hit up for tips to be charged to her flex spending card!
The actual treatment was fine, so I would maybe consider returning if another service wasn’t available.

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!! I took my daughter here to be treated for lice and it was a truly miserable experience. I was told that it would be $ 95 for the treatment and the check was free. Turns out that’s very misleading. Free for 2 years old and under. And the treatment takes hours, so try $ 95 multiplied by 3. They highly recommend that I buy «products» to take home and I still have to do work myself. I spent over $ 400 at this place only to have lice reappear in my daughters hair within a week. The staff was rude on top of it all. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!!

LKY saved the day! Nancy was really responsive and calmed me down and got me an appointment right away. The staff was great and they did a thorough job. I went home much calmer and lice free!

Didn’t mention ONCE in our 15 minute long conversation after having my sons treatment that you MUST return by the 5th day within a tiny window of 9−11am (when kids are in school, by the way) for the guarantee to be valid. I luckily read it in their website later and got my son in at 3:30 on the 5th day and they charged us $ 25 for a recheck! They were SO rude about it, saying they have signs all over the store stating it and that it was in the back of the page my husband signed. Sorry, in the midst of my stress of having my son have lice, and the stress of thinking only about what I need to do in my house for cleaning afterwards, you expect me to notice a sign or fine print, rather than mentioning to me or my husband what the rules are. When I called to make the recheck appt on the 5th day and complained about that, the woman finally said ‘you’re ok, it’s the 5th day’. I found out she just said that to get me off the phone because when my husband went in at 3:30 there was a note saying to make sure we get charged $ 25 before they check my son. So he left without the check. PLEASE someone step up and start a business with good customer service so you can put these aholes out of business! Shame on you!

I wish I could write 2 reviews — one for customer service & one for the staff performing the treatments.
I would give the staff performing the treatments 5 stars as they were excellent, efficient, professional & were so nice to both of my kids (one of which was 14 months!). They were also effective & I was able to get my 8 year old back to school the next day, which was great!
I would give the front desk & phone staff 1 star as they were terrible from start to finish! They open at 9am & I called exactly at 9. I was put on hold & waited 10 min & then just got disconnected. I called back twice & each time experienced the same thing! I then sent an email saying I’d like to schedule. By 10 am when I called there was just an answering machine. So I left a message. I never got a call or email back. I had to call every 10 min until I got ahold of someone at 11am. Several times I got mysteriously disconnected in the process. The person I talked to was impatient & rude.
When we checked in I let them know it was challenging to schedule. Nancy, the manager said «everyone gets put on hold & just need to deal with it, we’re busy.» I explained that once would have been fine, or even waiting 15 min, but to take 2 hours to schedule seemed excessive to me. At that point she said «you seem mad, maybe you should leave.» When we were done 4 hours later, and scheduling the re-​check, I was told they only do them for free M-​F 9 – 11. As I work that wasn’t possible, so I scheduled for Sat & was told the recheck was $ 25 each. I asked why they charge for Sat rechecks & not those during the week, & why they’re more than the $ 10 check I had. They said it was much more detailed & took more time. The person was rude when explaining, acting as if I should just know this & not ask questions. On Sat both kids got rechecked faster than I had. So I felt a little taken advantage of, as clearly the rechecks don’t really take long at all!
The place is also very hard to find. So if you don’t know Mercer Island just follow the website instructions & not those on your phone. We drove in circles trying to find where to turn in Island Crest Way, & it’s in a little shopping center behind Island Crest Way. The website instructions are good though.

I, unfortunately, had to eradicate lice from our home. I was able to make an appointment for the next day with checks for the rest of us. They checked us all, found nits, and worked 2 of us in to that day for treatment. They were great and the staff that performed the treatment was nice, friendly and thorough. I had an issue with the 30 day guarantee and complained about it on Unilocal.The owner, Laura, called me personally to discuss and my issues and offered free lice checks for everyone in the family. She apologized for my challenges and explained the guarantee to me. It made me feel as though they heard my issues and complaints. Shows that their business is important to them, while doing a service that many of us prefer not to have to do.

No nonsense. Exactly how you want people picking nits out of your hair to be. All natural products and a guarantee to help you sleep better at night. We have used this location twice and they have eradicated our family’s lice both times. Totally worth the cost to keep harmful chemicals off of your scalp. (Those treatments aren’t cheap either! Especially because you have to keep using them since they don’t work properly.)

My daughter is 11 and this is the first time we’ve ever had lice with her — and it happened twice this summer! Both times LKY was amazing at getting it taken care of AND providing that peace of mind for us.
Yes, it’s expensive. But for me, the price is part of the sanity and it’s worth it. I am endlessly grateful for these people. Both times we’ve gone in and been treated we’ve been accommodate with just half day’s notice. Considering how slammed they get, I’m always surprised at how prompt replies are and how quickly they can help us.
At times they may not be as friendly as you’d hope for but the place gets busy and some of the customers I’ve witnessed are pushy and downright rude. We’re all dealing with lice and none of us want to be. A little friendliness as a customer can go a long way. The staff is kinder when you are kind. Think about it! Love love these people and what they’ve done to help me feel good about my girl being lice-​free.

Services were successful and they did get rid of our kids lice but I didn’t give 5 stars and agree with a couple of the other comments that the manager Nancy was not very friendly. We went to the other LiceKnowingYou business near the zoo and had much more pleasant experience.

LKY was a life saver! When we got the lice letter from our kids’ school, I took my daughter in to get checked mostly for peace of mind. I called at 3:45 and they were able to offer us an appointment right away. I headed straight there (easy drive from Seattle), got checked and it turns out that she had lice! They were even able to do the treatment right away and we were done in about an hour.
Their staff was professional and polite. The place was as pleasant as you could make a lice salon. They even offered me a glass of wine! They have a whole wall of hair treatment products, but there was never any pressure or up sell for these products. In fact, they didn’t even mention it until I asked about it. I did buy a home lice detection kit and some environmental sprays.
Honestly for the service, I would pay almost any amount of money. Yes, it is pricey, but for what they do in an hour, it would take many more to do yourself at home plus the cost of the products (and the cleanup!)
I hope to never need their services again, but I would highly recommend it if you find yourself in a similar situation.

This business is worth it it get it done so that is why it was as high as it is but i also have some big complaints. We were charged for way more then what we got. The people screwed up our payment and i would not go there again. If this was a place were the workers didn’t get rid of a problem that has been in our household for far to long then it would have gotten a one star rating.

I’m a huge fan of this place. Nancy and her staff really know their stuff! There are so many misconceptions about lice but after visiting LKY a few times in the past few years, I have learned more and more and feel very much at ease after each visit. The only downside to our experiences have been the little critters themselves!

I used this service years ago when we got lice for the first time and I didn’t know much about it. Needless to say, I was freaked out by the idea that my kids had bugs on their heads and all over the house. I feel that Nancy capitalized on this fear and exaggerated both what needed to be done in the house as well as the treatment method. We’ve had lice since then again (different occurrence not re-​occurence) and done far less and have been fine. WE SPENT OVER $ 1500 IN ONE LICE ROUND on comb outs, travel costs, and products to get rid of it through this service. Because I’m a single mom and had a sprained ankle and was in the middle of finals in grad school, I needed help combing my girls out and myself. I feel like she took advantage of the situation BIG TIME because she knew I was desperate. Additionally, she told me to dry clean everything in my closet. REALLY NANCY??? This is RIDICULOUS! and… would have cost me about another $ 2000. Anything that has been exposed to lice can be put in a hot dryer for 30 minutes and it is FINE and what you should do is leave your closet alone and let it «rest»…whatever you are going to wear that day, throw that in the dryer first — a hell of a lot easier than drying your whole damn closet… really doesn’t take a genius to figure that out.
Last, I used, since then, a business that uses a machine that is like a blow-​dryer to get rid of the lice — which is immediately gone… you vacuum, throw all bedding and such in the dryer, comb a few times and you are done for a couple hundred bucks. No sleeping in caps, expensive oils, comb outs for weeks and weeks… all unnecessary. And by the way, you know those expensive products Nancy sells? — you can make them yourself with canola oil and tea tree oil/​rosemary, and mint oil from Super Supplements — better yet, comb out using a cheap conditioner like Suave and save the expensive oil to help ward off lice on your kids in the future. I will add that I’ve talked to other people who have had a similar experience with this business. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT. IT IS A SCAM in my opinion. Please don’t support her in doing this to other people. I have never reviewed anything on line before but feel very strongly about this business a problem in the community. If I had more time, I would report her to the better business bureau.

We have had the worst experience with your general manager, Claudia. We phoned this morning as we found out for the first time our family contracted lice and we are leaving for Maui in 2 days. I have never had such a rude and disrespectful customer facing person in my life. She informed us that we could have an emergency appt for all four of us to be treated with a min cost of $ 480 for an hour of lice removal which we both know is a bare minimum. She also clarifyied that no one was willing to check first before you accepted our money. Based on principal alone we refused — we could pay the money, but have no interest in giving your company any money based on our interaction with Claudia. I realize that you have the local market cornered so perhaps you feel you can use that attitude because up until now you have very little competition, but I can assure you this could change in an instant.
I would think twice about having Claudia as a front person let alone a person working for your company at all.

Nancy is amazing she returns inquiries promptly and will quickly eliminate all stresses. We very quickly obtained a price quote given the worst case scenario. The next day everyone was in!
The staff was very prompt and two were very friendly and shared their knowledge! The other staff seemed very complacent and have forgotten a friendly smile goes a long way. Smile ladies you’re helping people! My only complaints were the floors were covered with others hair, but this can be fixed with a quick sweep in between clients :) and I didn’t get my information sheet. Final check was «ehh» due to attitude and rushing. These things can be overlooked because of the amazing service. I love the products available, and the service overall! The price was amazingly reasonable!!!
Thanks to Lice Knowing You, I have an arsenal of product «weapons»! I do request repellent hairspray. (Please) Thank you! I will continue to promote this company and the amazing products.

Nancy I appreciate the call and the follow up. I do think you do a thorough job but the prices are at a point that is really out of the question for many especially if your child has «a severe case.» to your credit my son no longer has lice. I just think people who use the service need to be aware of how high the cost can be.

They were wonderful to me and my daughter. I went to Mercer Island and was quickly helped and treated. This is time consuming, so please remember this!!! I’m so happy to have found this place since I didn’t have anyone to help me with my hair! I did find that the lady who checked my boys hair at the Lynnwood location was Rude!!! She was the only one that seemed to have a «issue» The other staff were Awesome!!!
