When I first came to Dr. Steven Levy’s office 4 years ago I was an
extremely apprehensive patient. I was embarrassed about my teeth
and fearful regarding treatment. The dentists I had been to previously
were very judgmental and not at all sympathetic to my emotional
needs. I had so many bad dental experiences that I had almost given
up hope.
What first struck me was his kindness, warmth and reassurance.
Other dentists I had been to were condescending, but Dr. Levy was
uplifting in his approach. He spent a huge amount of time with me
and fully answered all my questions and concerns. All my options
were explained in detail. No other dentist had ever done that before.
He is the first dentist that ever did a thorough oral cancer exam on
me.
His office staff is wonderful and greets you with a smile. The office is
spotless and clean! All latest technology is used.
Dr. Levy is the extremely professional, gentle and is a perfectionist. I
highly recommend him!

Dr. Levy has been my dentist for many years and I couldn’t be happier. Every time I make an appointment I have no wait at all. I never have a problem scheduling my appointments.
Dr. Levy is an example of what quality healthcare should be about. He is caring, compassionate, and extremely professional as well as his staff.

I found Doctor Levy on a Google search while looking for a new regular dentist close to my town. I chose his office specifically because of his thorough website, the relatively easy commute, and the good reviews. I was 15 at the time and I needed a check up before I could get my braces. I went to his office two separate times — the first for a cleaning by a friendly hygienist, and the second time for Dr. Levy to fill in a few cavities. The second time, my mother was not in the room with me.
Let me preface by saying the town this office is located in is predominantly white and my mother and I were the only black people in the waiting room on both occasions (not to say that those two occasions represented his entire patient demographic, but obviously a majority of his patients are white). This was not a concern of mine at the time, though, because Dr. Levy’s website made it seem like he was professional and knowledgable, and that was my only requirement.
After meeting him, he seemed polite enough, but something was nagging me about the way he reacted to my dental history, or lack thereof (I hadn’t been to a dentist in a few years). He seemed to have this almost snooty, sarcastic, and insincere attitude towards my mother and I. We did not have dental insurance and were paying around $ 200 out of pocket for each cavity. It was a luxury for us, and Dr. Levy was not aware that out of all the local dentists I could’ve gone to, I chose him.
Dr. Levy stuffed pieces of cotton in my mouth and filled my cavities in. It was relatively quick, took probably under an hour. After they were filled, he said «Now I’ll take the cotton out of your cotton-​picking mouth.» Wait, what?
It’s been five years since then, and I’ve thought about Dr. Levy’s comment over the course of the years and gotten emotional as I began to understand and internalize what was said to me. I was only 15 and aware enough to realize that his comment was not appropriate in the slightest, but too young and naïve to know how to react in a room with two strangers. Needless to say, I never went back to his office.
I’m 20 years old now and studying to become a dental hygienist (the irony!). I grew up in another country, lived in four out of the five boroughs, in different parts of Long Island, and now in a southern state. I’ve experienced a lot diversity in the very few years I’ve been alive — probably more than Dr. Levy ever will — and have been humbled by it, enough to carry it around every day and treat the people I encounter with love and respect. Continuing on, I’d like to leave this experience behind in this review (my very first Unilocal review!) and give the people considering Dr. Levy’s office a different perspective. Do with it what you will.
