Is it possible to rate a place half a star? The highlights of our golf weekend were the spectacular views provided by the courses.
The terrible service began at check in. The clerks did not seem to care about customer service. Some groups rooms were ready, and some not. They were unwilling to accommodate people who arrived early. In addition, they did not have my reservation with the correct group even though my deposit check was there.
The food the first night was acceptable, but uneventful. The food service staff were slow and not real anxious to serve customers, such as refilling water and tea, or doing separate checks. The second night, we were directed to the buffet as our only choice. We were directed to tip on a $ 37 buffet that was disappointing at best. The hot food was cold, the soups extremely salty and the poor service continued. They overcharged our group for house wine. It was a complete cluster. We had a vegetarian that requested food ahead of time, and the cooks did not have anything to offer the second night.
As for the rooms, only one available outlet? Really? The rooms and resort are very dated. They do not seem to care about upkeep, as all of the sidewalk lights were out as we took items to the car.
The golf experience was overall pretty good, however the upkeep and custom service again lacking as the water on the course was empty and there are minimal restroom options on the courses. Considering it was 88 degrees, the water issue was especially bad. Prepare for a beautiful 5 hour round golfers!
I will not be returning anytime soon.

Not bad for the midwest.
As a mediocre skier, this is great for me. I’ve been to Colorado where the slopes are minimum 10 minutes long. While it’s fun and insanely gorgeous, I’m not good enough to fully enjoy the black and blue diamonds out west.
I’ve been to Devil’s Head twice and will probably keep coming back. They offer discounts of combining days, lift tickets and equipment rental online, have some pretty well-​maintained slopes and not too many people on them (compared to Cascase down the street).
The only drawback are that the lifts are slower. Just get that cardio in every time. It’ll make grabbing a beer at the bar afterwards that much more worth it. There’s a little deck off one of the slopes that is a perfect picture spot. Insider tip: snag some beers and pop them open there for the best view while having a brew.
I’d definitely skip their lodging, as there’s plenty of cheaper, more modern hotels within 10 min drive that have better amenities (hot tub post skiing = heaven).

Don’t believe their snow report of what lifts are open and which runs are open. Was out there when it listed 4 lifts open and ALL runs. Well, only 2 lifts were open all day and you could only access about 6 – 7 runs. I guess ALL runs are open if you walk to them! Why go here when you have Cascade nearby, Devils Head is just not worth it on their ancient chair lifts that are always breaking down.

Devil’s Head resort is what I would call your typical midwest ski resort. It is what it is. They have decent terrain for boarding and skiing. Typical food for the lodge bar and accommodations are decent. They do a great job of keeping things tight and tidy here. Parking is plenty and it’s easy to navigate the place. It’s an awesome spot to come that’s not to far outside of Milwaukee. Overall Devil’s head gets the job done of getting you the fix for winter sports. I prefer to come during the week as it is far less busy and the hills don’t get brutalized so fast.

Snowboarding in a few different places throughout the Midwest, I have to say this is definitely in my spot. I was very surprised to find out that when I came there at 3:30 in the afternoon the guy at the ticket office told me that I will need to pay only $ 16 for a eight hours of lift time, that is probably the best deal you will ever ever get especially in the United States. It was a bit icy but they packed snow nicely and I got a few hours of good boarding to get back in shape.

Great resort to ski at the a lot ski runs even black diamonds, the people are nice to you even the skiers, the place looks like 1960 look and appeal they modern life it Ann updated it so looks like 2015,

Excellent skiing for the price. The resort is perfect for a family ski weekend with a large pool and large rooms. Everything is very dated but that adds to the charm. Staff is friendly. Food options are scarce to non existent (delivery service not even an option) — so be prepared.

The skiing was good. I’m not an avid skier so I guess that doesn’t say much but for my first experience with an 11 year old who has skied before and an 8 year old beginner it was a good place to start. The lessons come with the package for the weekend so i guess it was a good deal and my kids learned things i couldn’t teach them. Ski instructors and ski staff were great.
On to the lodge review: BUGS. Box Elder Beetles they call them. I had three in my 2^nd floor room in the lodge and the guy came to «take care of it» and said something about the quick weather changes and they are looking for a place to stay. Well when the 4^th one ended up on the BED and then two more hung out on the sink I was done and so were my kids! Well needless to say that doesn’t work for me. Nor does the fact that the light above the sink had SEVERAL dead bugs in it and no one bothered to clean it out. the windows were filthy, webs on them, dead bugs hanging out. Just GROSS! I was told my room might have some issues due to it’s location (being on the end of the building) so they moved me. I was then moved to a very dark room and so yes I asked for a flashlight so i could look around. I was not about to drive 3 hours home that late at night, so we stayed. Nothing in this place seems to have been cleaned in ages if you ask me! The bathrooms are atrocious and smelly and nothing works in them. Dirty. Period. Invest in a good exterminator and maybe renovations!
On to the food review: Cornucopia — TERRRIBLE. waited two hours for food with six kids total. Terrible. Brought us 3 ice creams for the kids to make up for it, that’s it. WE HAVE SIX KIDS in our group not three! Cafeteria ok, Breakfast buffet? What buffet. it was eggs benedict, scrambled eggs, French toast, VERY LIMITED fruit, dry cereal and sausage (I would say bacon but it was out and never refilled).

In the end, the manager who claims to have managed this place for 25 years refunded me for our room which he should absolutely do, but how many other people did he have to refund. he also refunded my friend for her TWO rooms that she had AND I heard another guest complaining about the beetles. So maybe this is why they can’t renovate. because he keeps having to refund money to unhappy guests! I would say you get what you pay for but seriously. bugs!?!

My first time skiing Devil’s Head and I must say, I’m pretty impressed. I went with my 6^th grader for his school’s ski club. The downside is that there was a giant amount of middle-​schoolers swarming the complex — good luck getting something from the concessions… but, we knew what we were in for, so we accepted our fate and will make better decisions next time.
The hills are very nice. It’s been a mild winter, so snow has been scarce. Natural snow is better, but the runs were in great shape from all their snow guns — several having been opened just a day earlier.
I was warned that the «difficulty» of their runs tends to not be as hard as, say, Cascade’s. So, a black diamond at Devil’s Head isn’t as hard as Cascade’s. I’d agree with that. The blue runs were not horribly challenging, but I’m 100% fine with that. They are scenic and curvy — lots of character, and plenty of places to pick up speed if you’re looking for that. As a grown man over 6-​feet tall, physics dictates «you will go fast», so I’m always looking for places to cut speed and maintain some sanity. The black diamonds have some steeper sections, but there are also plenty of places to cut speed off to maintain that control. I loved that.
The lift that services the blue runs take you over the terrain park. I was super impressed with their terrain park. While I won’t DO it, I know what I’m looking at. Some hills have sections of runs that have tricking features (jumps, stairs, rails, etc.). Here, there’s an entire run dedicated to that. All nice features — well spaced so you can plan your attack, but also choices (go right, take a jump — go left, grind a rail). My older son (a snowboarder) hit the terrain park a couple times and said it was pretty fantastic.
My one big knock on the complex is that the lifts are quite slow. The turbo lift at Cascade has me spoiled, I guess. On top of being slow, the lifts had to stop a lot (I’ll assume it was the plethora of 6^th-​through-​8^th graders having their difficulties). The other, more personal issue I have with the lifts is that there is no order to them. You just kinda saunter up and «get in line». But, there’s no management of the line, nor any official line formation. So, you get kids and other individuals that budge their way through, or come in from the side ahead of many others. If you’re not Ski Patrol, I’m not okay with that. Yeah, I know they’re excited, but there’s room for «patience» and «respect» too. At Cascade, they have more order at the lifts and manage the chaos.
Time was short, so we didn’t get to explore ALL of the black diamond runs, nor did I bother with the double diamonds. Most of the green runs are closed at night, but I wouldn’t want anything much easier than the blue runs anyway. We have three more ski club outings to go, so there’s time to explore. I can’t wait!

I just called the front desk to get a corkscrew. The person who answered said, «my manager says we don’t do that.» What does that mean? I’m a paying tenant right now, and you «don’t do that…»???Also, this morning we called the front desk to ask, «Which of your restaurants serve breakfast?» Girl on the other line, «ummm…oh, I got confused.» WHAT? Okay, whatever. The skiing is fun, the Lodge rooms are clean, but hire some people who know how to do their jobs, please.

Hotel was pretty good, we stayed at the Lodge, but the Inn rooms aren’t too great I heard. There needs to be more food options that you can deliver to the room, me and my friends were only able to order pizza to the rooms and nothing else. We were too exhausted to go out and get food.
–The bonfire area is nice but it smells like alcohol, and we just wanted to roast our marshmallows and make smores. It seemed like there was sticky/​dried up alcohol on the benches, they should definitely keep it more clean.
–Overall it wasn’t bad but the TVs in the rooms were tiny and the settings were off so the screen was blurry as well!

We have made it our mission to try to ski as many WI ski resorts as possible this year. So far, we have hit 6 of them. I would say that in terms of terrain, DH is about the #2 in the state, behind Granite Peak. The slopes are longer than most other places and there are plenty of challenging runs to be found (although the mogul field was built poorly with long rectangular boxes instead of rounded dimples). While the prices are pretty high on all food and beverage items, the resort appears to have done a lot to improve its restaurants and food quality compared to reviews I’ve seen from the past. The bar is a very lively place, with a ton of people boozing all day long. I like to drink and get silly with friends as much as the next guy, but when I go somewhere to ski, I’m really there to ski. This place really seems to be more about drinking and partying than the skiing. I will definitely come back to DH again in the future, because it’s a really nice ski destination in Wisconsin. For people who rent, the process is pretty easy and the equipment is actually fairly new and well maintained. The lifts are still fairly slow, but there are plenty of them, so the lines don’t get too long. The lifties are all super nice and friendly, too.
There are a few things that were disappointing however. First of all, the parking lot is like a 15 minute walk from where you need to buy your lift tickets or get people rental equipment. Carrying all your gear and walking in ski boots that far is a tremendous pain in the ass, especially with kids. It is a Particularly poor layout and design. They should get a shuttle bus, or some other means of bringing people from one place to the other. The same goes for the bunny hill and green runs. The lodge is so far away from the green runs that beginners are forced to walk with their gear or traverse long stretches of flat land to get from one to the other. The ski school was a joke for us. I put my son into classes and asked them to help him work on his turns on the green runs. After 90 minutes, I picked him up and asked him what he learned. He told me the instructor (who was about 19 years old) just told him to ski on his own and do whatever he wanted on the bunny hill. Really disappointing that they treat the kids school like a babysitting service more than a place of learning, especially since my son is trying to improve and advance to a new level. We actually tried out the day care in the evening because they had advertised a «Luau» party theme for the kids, complete with grass skirts and a Hawaiian costume night. We dropped them off, only to pick them up later and find out that none of that actually happened.

Solid ski mt in the middle of no where.
Coming from the east coast, this place seemed like a bunny hill, but by WI standards it’s one of the better places to go. 500ft verticals, good amount of runs open. Chair lifts are a bit slow. Lots of lodge choices.
The devils den lodge area is a good choice for lunch. Pizza was good, bartenders were great (thanks Tyler!). It was warm and cozy and a band was just starting up.
Would recommend it!

Ski here. Don’t stay here.
Our room was pretty dingy — the other guests were extremely loud into the wee hours of the morning (which, by the lack of staff or security roaming the hallways, was not much of a concern to the hotel) — and there are several other hotels 10 – 15 minutes away that are more affordable.
I actually do recommend the hotel — but only for a bachelor party or something similar. It seemed like the perfect place for that, but not a great place for people who want to sleep.

Turn right at the sign! How is that not marked? Okay, onto this really nice resort with great runs, longer than cascade! Wait a sec, one more really important fact:
PUMP RANCH AND MAYO and… wait for it… HONEY MUSTARD! hahahaha!
Harder to get to, but worth it. Besides the insane life ticket line that will cost you about 45 min to an hour between 10 and noon on a Saturday, this is a great spot. Great beginner hill with the magic carpet and some nice terrain park rails/​table top jumps, and some nice blue runs that call themselves black. A ticket will cost you about $ 52 but its a 8 hour flex which is cool. Night skiing and the crowd was GONE. Cool bar and outside music/​grilling going on, nice ambiance. Will be back!

So I’m actually a little surprised Devil’s Head has under a 3 star rating. I know it’s not the ‘nicest’ ski resort ever but for the low cost to stay and ski, and for how convenient it is to get to for us Midwesterners (especially Chicago), it can’t be beat!
Sure, it’s a little dated looking/​feeling. Sitting in the Cornucopia having dinner I felt like I was traveling back to the 80’s ‘Microsoft’ era — but it’s nostalgic and fun! The rooms are a little banged up/​older but mine was very clean at least. I did notice the resort hires a lot of teenagers which made for slow and sometimes not enthusiastic service — especially in the cafeteria. and I must admit that food was exceptionally gross. but it’s CAFETERIA food. Eat your cheap corndog and hush it. What do you expect? Our dinner at Cornucopia was actually really good and we were really pleased with that. I wouldn’t say the customer service is ‘bad’ but there was definitely nothing outstanding about it either.
The slopes are fun, offering a variety that’s challenging enough even for expert level skiers. I wouldn’t suggest the greens — even for newbies — unless you just have no control/can’t stop appropriately, or stand upright at all on your skis/​board. The greens are super flat in most parts and just a pain in the ass to get down. I had only skied twice in my life and found myself on the blues immediately. The blue runs were amazing! Did one black diamond and I didn’t fall but my life was definitely flashing before my eyes at some bits so I just stayed on blues all the way which was fun enough. :D
Final Verdict:
All and all for a cheap, quick, weekend skiing/​snowboarding get-​away for Midwest based peeps, Devil’s Head is the best you’re gonna get. If you’re looking for 5 star resort, expert level slopes, and willing to pay a heck of a lot more for your trip, then head out west to ski my friend!
Pro Tip: Bring your own wine bottles/​alcohol, between meal snacks, and camel packs/​water bottles as the rooms come with a fridge. The food/​snack prices aren’t bad but you’ll still save a ton bringing your own. If you forget — you CAN buy wine bottles and bring them to your room! From there, grab some of the plastic cups they give you in the room and head to the indoor pool/​jacuzzi for some relaxing and drinking after skiing! Bring enough layers! It can get COLD on those never-​ending lifts!

First let me start by saying I am no ski or snowboard enthusiast. I have never skied in my life and have only snowboarded twice, including the one time here. A heads up, this review is going to be more about the service and comparing bunny hill to bunny hill and really more for the snow noobs.
Got there pretty early so parking was not a problem, and the place was pretty easy to find with the signs (and a GPS). They were pretty decently staffed so the lines to buy rentals and lift tickets were fairly short. They offer a variety of lessons, skiing, snowboarding, group, individual, and a make-​your-​own-​group type thing if you have enough people.
I think the most frustrating thing here was the boots they had for rental. By the time we got there, around 9−10AM, they had already run out of some of the sizes (or the boots available in that size were broken). I ended up having to go with a pair that were too small. That to me is a problem since I paid $$ for these rentals. It was either start with something that didn’t fit, or wait for someone to return who knows when with boots that were in my size.
Everything after that was pretty smooth sailing. The bunny hill has two magic carpets to get to various parts of the hill. It’s a little easier to manage than an actual lift. The hill itself is decently sized, and one of the magic carpets goes up a little higher than the other. They had some issues throughout the day with the carpet getting stuck, but thankfully I wasn’t on it when that happened. Felt bad for those poor souls who had to walk up the hill when it stopped.
Overheard and talked to some people that had taken a lesson, and it didn’t seem as comprehensive or as long as at the other place I had been too. I think the teacher was fairly new.
The food is typical cafeteria food, although the grilled chicken was actually better than I thought it would be and surprisingly not dry (I had really low expectations). They had a fair amount of toppings for you to put on yourself including tomatoes, onions, lettuce, ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce, & Mayo. The cafeteria seating area is fairly large, but it can be tough to find and keep a table.
A few hiccups, this place has room to grow, but overall a decent experience

This review is for the Resort only. The skiing was good; no complaints there. However, the rooms were atrocious. Upon arrival, we drove from the lobby to the «inn» where we were staying in a king room on the first floor. Our key wouldn’t work, so we called the front desk from our friend’s room to ask for assistance. Maintenance finally showed up with a master key, but our door itself was jammed. This was an immediate red flag for me, especially when the maintenance worker informed us that the rooms on the first floor «don’t get used too often.» I began to wonder when was the last time our door was able to be opened, and the last time the room was cleaned. The maintenance man tried to speak to the front desk to get us in another room, but apparently the entire hotel was sold out.
Once they finally fixed the door and lock (which took about 10 minutes, no apology for the delay or any other special treatment) we entered our disgusting room. I have stayed in a nicer Motel 6. The carpet had gotten wet in the past near the bed and was puffy and warped. The carpet across the entire room didn’t extend all the way to the wall, and instead of installing a base board, management simply left it. The bed was about the same quality as a pull out couch with a water proof plastic sheet. The bathroom floor was dirty, as well as the toilet. We saw similar conditions in our friends’ room, and since we were already told there were no other rooms available, we had no choice but to deal with it. Luckily, we didn’t spend too much time in the room.
We had fun skiing, but I would never stay at the resort again. We spent over $ 600 for two nights stay, meals, and skiing (rentals are an additional $ 28 per day and drinks at the bar were priced decently). They should be ashamed charging those rates for the quality of the hotel. Definitely need to invest in a deep clean and an upgrade.

A little more expensive than Cascade but it’s worth the few extra dollars. The runs seem longer but the mountain doesn’t seem as wide as Cascade. There are only a few greens which ended up being ok for us since it forced us to get better!
The avalanche bar is awful. 25 minute wait for a dry, burnt hamburger. The service is awful and slow but when you don’t have much option I guess you can’t complain. The bar has pool tables, darts, and a juke box though. Fun atmosphere.

Seeing as the windchill is –45 right now, I should be writing a review of Puerto Rico to get my mind off my toes that I’m pretty sure are withdrawing themselves from my feet at the moment due to frostbite, however I’m not that smart. Instead I’m writing about the fabulous experience I had skiing in much balmier weather at Devil’s Head. A breezy 10 degrees was still a little chilly to ski in, but proper gear made it bearable.
Of course, I didn’t own proper gear, but I was able to suit up just fine in the Resort’s ski shop. With plenty of sales and price ranges, I was able to get bundled up and stay warm without breaking the bank.
On to the skiing– I’m a newbie, and had no idea what the hell I was doing. Lucky for me I was with a group that did. If you’re new to skiing, book a lesson. They run about $ 30 for 90 minutes, which is all the time you really need to get down the basics. Ski rentals run $ 30, plus your lift ticket, which is anywhere from $ 22 (bunny slope) to $ 55 for the day. I advise on the lesson because getting down the basics is the hardest part. After that, you’re smooth sailing down that baby hill.
I caught on well enough (thank you precision team figure skating!) and I was talked into riding the blue hill, which I didn’t find very difficult. If you’re an avid skier, you may not enjoy Devil’s Head, or anywhere in the Midwest, because you aren’t going to get the challenge and range of runs like you would out west or in West Virginia, but for the occasional skier, Devil’s Head is just fine. The staff are also pretty nice and helpful.
The facility itself is pretty nice with a well-​stocked bar, limited food menu, the ski shop mentioned above, and the magic carpet on the bunny slope. The one area that could use improvement is the basement where the rentals are. It’s a little dungeonesque for my taste.
