As we all know, Dominick’s is closed. I have tried most of the other grocery stores around, and they are all pathetic when compared to what Dominick’s was. I guess until Mariano’s opens I’m doomed to the poor produce and meat selection Jewel offers… Unless I find myself near a Berkots.

Ohhhhh, my love/hate relationship with Dominick’s. Ridiculously expensive, but large enough that they have a wide selection of brands for when I REALLY need something and can’t find it at County Fair. Helpful staff that offers assistance when they see me circling the isles in pathetic desperation –Flimsy bags that with a sudden snag leave half my crap sprawled on the pavement. Late-night hours, friendly butchers and nice cuts of meat. – Wretched deli carrying only the standards and in some cases, the sub-. I once asked if Olive oil was used in a pasta salad and the dear lady(she really was super helpful) said, «Just a second and I’ll check for you.» It was at this time she proceeded to yank out a mammoth vat whose label assured me it was instead Canola oil. Uh, let’s move away from the deli, shall we? They have great, well-lit parking so loading groceries is a cinch and I really like that there is a Starbucks in here. Alas, I’m pretty sure this is produce purgatory. ‘Whole Foods’, come save me! Note: To their credit, this store is roomy and having a special needs family member has made me more sensitive to such considerations.

This is my favorite grocery store. Sadly the one in Orland Park closed, and now I don’t have two to choose from, but I’m very happy this one is still thriving and I’m here frequently. The prices are of course terrible, but the food quality is better than Jewel’s and the shopping experience is much better. Come prepared with your coupons. It’s not an option, haha. Also, there’s a Starbucks inside!

The only reason for the two stars is the price on Tide. When Tide is on sale at Dom’s, it’s the best price around. But when I shop here, which is often because I’m blocks away, I literally come home and cry. Ask my husband. The prices are outrageous. I frequently get no bagger, and no apology for having to bag myself. The music blaring over the speakers is awful. The produce is overpriced garbage. The deli ladies are mean, and the chicken salad has bones in it. There are a couple nice employees, but in general I find them pretty surly. So I’m trying to break the habit and re-think my whole approach to shopping. After 11 years it’s going to be hard.

I just wanted to add to my last review of this store… what I failed to mention previously is that it never fails that when at this store you get to hear about how horrible of a place it is to work from the cashier ladies. I always get an earful of what they are doing wrong in the store or how the employees are being treated. Not to mention you hear all about how one person called off so now another person is working a double and how dare they because they don’t get repremanded… and so on. I feel like I’m always hearing a little too much of complaining from the employees there… I’m going to be changing store

A Dominick’s is a Dominick’s and this one is no exception. When you get things on sale, you’re good. Their selection of gluten free baking things pales in comparison to Ultra or Jewel, which is surprising considering Dominick’s definitely had the push to be «edgier». The pharmacy is great though, and their generic RX plan is really nice.

Maybe I’ve just had some bad experiences here, but I can’t stand this store. It’s completely overpriced. Times are tough for everyone, but apparently Dominick’s hasn’t gotten the memo… I will say I WAS impressed to have found a good deal on wine here a few weeks ago. In passing through the liquor aisle, I saw a sign that said(in more or less words) «Buy one bottle of Clos Du Bois, get another for half price». I did notice that only certain bottles were included in the sale, like Shiraz and Chardonnay, not Merlot or Pino Grigio. «Ehhh…», I thought, «I’ll get a bottle of Shiraz and Chardonnay to switch things up.» I check out and am charged full price for both bottles. I have to go to customer service to have the rude-as-hell lady explain to me that the sale only includes the purchase of 2 of the same bottles(i.e. 2 Shiraz or 2 Chardonnay), which makes NO effing sense. Not to mention that it did not say this on the sign, to which the aforementioned rude-as-helly lady informed me that«If you looked at the AD, it says so on the ad.» No, I didn’t look at the ad, I looked at the 4’x6’ sign in the liquor aisle, you wench… Whatever. All things considered, I do not come here unless I absolutely HAVE to. There only redeeming quality is that they are open late, which earns an extra star in my book…

Even though I regularly shop at Whole Foods, the prices here often shock me they are so high. Higher than high end grocery stores but for lower end food? It’s all really confusing. This one just underwent a face lift a year or two ago. Now they sell Le Creuset cookware and things that say«organic» on them, but underneath it all, I know and they know that this is really just overpriced, overfancified Safeway from back home. And when I buy my Safeway Select branded generic crap, I’m mad when it costs two dollars more than comparable crap elsewhere. But I’m really, really mad that they just discontinued carrying my beloved Sapporo Ichiban ramen, because this used to be the closest place to my house to get it. Seriously, they lose a star just for that shit — I am MAD about that shit. We joke about this place that it’s open 24 hours, but just not all in a row. They close in the middle of the night on Sundays and a few other random times they haven’t been open when they should. Still, they get an extra star for usually being kind of sort of reliable in the middle of most nights. Although there is a little Starbucks in there and the people who work there are nice enough, I feel like I’ve been robbed every time I shop here. Lots of nights the parking lot is filled with douchey and hoey drunken half-nakeds from nearby 115 Bourbon Street. Sometimes the store is filled with them too. It can be awkward and amusing.
