Got Roots Salon

This is the only place I will go to get my hair done. I saw a new stylist (who is no longer there) a few months ago that messed up my color and cut. The manager was beyond helpful and considerate, and fixed the color and cut herself. You can tell when an owner really cares about her business and customer satisfaction. The customer service alone has made me a loyal customer. I have already been back for another cut, which turned out great!

Best place ever Natalie is a rockstar! Been to so many places so many bad cuts so many terrible color jobs! Desperate for a good cut and color she listened and nailed it! Thank you to the person who took time for Unilocal it was the reason I went!

Nathalie is the best!!! She works her magic everytime. She can make dark hair blonde or blonde hair pretty brown. She also does lash extensions.

I posted a review a couple weeks ago and the owner of the salon called me to discuss what happened and find out why I wasn’t pleased. Talked on the phone for about 15 minutes and it was long enough to learn that her passion is hair, she comes from a history of stylists and she does not want unhappy customers. She went above and beyond to reach out to me and offer her services free of charge to make things right, even though she wasn’t the original stylist to work on my hair. She didn’t have to do this, I could have just moved on but she doesn’t want unhappy patrons. It’s nice to see a business owner who genuinely cares about customers happiness and strives for repeat business. Thank you Alicia!

I have been going to Got Roots for a number of years. I normally get an excellent haircut there as I go to one stylist. However, recently I received a very poor haircut as the stylist I normally use was booked and I was only in town for a few days.
The haircut was bad in every dimension. It was uneven, was cut strangely around the ears, cut the font so short that it does not lie properly and after a month will apparently take another month to grow out. All of this, and I asked for a trim, so the length that was cut was far higher than what was agreed.
When I called in to explain this 3.5 weeks after the cut, while I was offered a free haircut, the owner changed the information I gave to mean in her mind that the haircut was simply not to my preference — which is a minimization of the problem. She also told me something concerning in that I would need to have patience as she was breaking in new stylists. I really don’t want to walk around looking like this so that Got Roots can break in stylists that should have a higher skill level than this before being allowed to get out of stylist school. I don’t wear a hat at work, so I actually require a good haircut.
So when I communicated my concerns as I did not think I received any satisfaction of the problem over the phone, and actually was angry after the call. I filled out a form on their internet site where I explained the issue again and asked for them to confirm my message, I never heard back.
When I saw my normal stylist my experience was 5 stars. However, the recent haircut I received was the lowest score I could give, and the response from the owner, who was not in a good informational position to re-​categorize my complaint as she did not see the haircut, is what motivated me to write this review. Got Roots has at least one great stylist, but the owner needs to institute some quality control, and not divert the issue when she receives a complaint. There is no way I believe that the haircut I recently received is acceptable even at a stylist school at a reduced price. And one thing I don’t want to be told is that I need to tolerate a very bad haircut so that Got Roots can break in certain stylists.
Actually because of this haircut, and another bad haircut I received previously, I have noticed I can tell when the stylist is beginning to cut whether the haircut will be good or not. So from now on I will simply stop the stylist and walk out.

On my first visit to Got Roots Salon… hidden in the Back far from view… I already knew it was
going to cost me a bill at least! I will face it… I am a vain person! There I said it now let’ s move on! Trevonta Lankford was a little gem! We are both Virgo’s and hit it off right away! I could tell that she was a perfectionist and I knew that I was in good hands right off the bat. I will admit that I did panic when it came time to see the results but she assured me that nothing was permanent and if I was really unhappy that she would go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that I was satisfied. I came home and adjusted to my kind of drastic change and realized how much I really like it! Trevonta… you are a doll! You have a new client in me… and my daughter was jazzed as well at the fine job you did… she is a tough customer so kudos to you!

Rachel Beckham is absolutely fabulous! We recently bought a home on the area and stopped in on a whim, what a find! Got Roots staff and Rachel are top notch! My hair has never looked better, color, highlights, and cut. Don’t go anywhere else, affordable and cutting edge, you can’t beat that!

Got a same day appt with Kelly and she did an amazing job cutting/​styling my long un-​wanted hair. Just moved here in July and been putting off trying to find a place and as always Unilocal to the rescue. Thanks again Kelly… I love it. See you in November.

Love Got Roots! I always go to Rachel and she never disappoints. She always does a great job with my hair, and is beyond accommodating. Great atmosphere, everyone is so friendly. Will keep going back.

I am so angry, I could spit nails. I made an appointment for the first time at this salon last week, scheduling a haircut for today at 1pm. I arrived today 5 to 10 minutes early, checked in and was told my person would be with me shortly.
Since I hadn’t been seen there before, I didn’t know who my stylist was on sight. The woman who checked me in was seeing someone else and she alluded to the fact it was another stylist I was seeing. The other woman finished her customer right before 1pm, looked around and said her 1pm wasn’t here yet. She made it clear she knew who her 1pm was by her statement and actions. She kept chatting with her previous customer, then started looking at photos on the phone of another customer. After chatting with her, she did some cleaning.
By 1:20 pm, I am starting to get annoyed. Where is my stylist!!! The chatty/​cleaning stylist asked if I wanted a water while I waited, I said no I just wondered where my stylist was! The other lady who checked me in, and had been busy with someone else, piped up and said to the other lady, «SHE is your 1 o’clock! «
The stylist then was essentially arguing with both of us about me being her 1 o’clock, as the person that booked the appointment had «short hair.» Nope. My hair did not grow to the middle of my back since last week. She THEN asked if my mother booked the appointment! Uh, no. I am 40 years old, my mommy doesn’t need to book my appointments for me. WTH!
By now, steam was coming out of my ears. The other stylist at least looked chagrined by what happened. My stylist clearly wasn’t going to take ANY responsibility for what happened and finally offered a weak apology. I told her to keep the appointment and her salon.
I will never go back. Completely unacceptable.

Liking my new salon. Recommended to me by a friend and glad I made the move. Friendly, personal employees. Didn’t feel like just another customer. It is a little longer drive for me to get my hair done but worth it.

I went on Unilocal looking for a place to get a blow out. Had planned on going to Scottsdale to Primp and Blow on the Waterfront, but could not bring myself to do it based on the Unilocal reviews concerning the owner’s conduct in dealing with her customers, so instead of risking it, I found another place closer to my home to try. «Got Roots» had six five star reviews so I thought I’d give em a whirl. I called this morning and was able to get an appt at 2pm same day. That was a bonus, although I do realize I might not be as lucky next time so I will make my next appt in advance. Natalie answered the phone and booked me for 2pm. She was very pleasant and sweet over the phone. The place is hidden in the Basha’s shopping center, I think another reviewer referred to this place as a hidden gem and that would be an accurate description. The shop is small and not perfectly decorated nor really exciting to look at. If I were the same girl I was in my 20’s and late thirties, I probably would have driven on past this salon as I was very much into image and «the scene «back in those days. But with experience comes the knowledge that just because a salon looks expensive and is expensive doesn’t mean it is deserving or entitled to be such. Took me years to figure that out. I walked in and was greeted by Natalie. She took me to the chair right away. I explained how I was looking for a new stylist since mine recently moved to Texas and it is very important to me that a stylist can blow dry my hair correctly. I have very course, extremely frizzy hair and it is virtually impossible to find a stylist who can blow out my hair to look like silk, the only one who ever achieved this in all my 45 years, was my stylist, who recently moved to Texas. She could blow it out so gracefully and never used a flat iron and it literally looked like silk every time. Natalie said she was a little nervous but was gonna give it a try… As she started blow drying my hair, she told me how her first job out of cosmetology school was working at a high end salon and all she did 8 hours a day for a year was wash and blow dry hair. I Don’t think she realizes what a great thing that was for her. As she parted my hair in segments and brought out the big round brush, I was feeling confident. When she was ¾ the way finished, I told her I knew immediately that she knew what the heck she was doing. I am so absolutely impressed with her blow out skills. She did an amazing job and made it look so simple. When someone can do something hard and make it look so simple, that is a talent. She was very down to earth and sweet. The other girl working next to her was also very nice. The blow out was $ 22!!! I am planning on going back in a few weeks to have her color my hair. I was very impressed Natalie and I will be going back.

The hidden secret! I have been looking for a good salon for a long time. I found this place on Unilocal and honestly I wouldn’t have found it otherwise. It is hidden in the Bashes parking lot on Gilbert Rd. and Mckellips. I have shopped there since 2007 and never noticed this hidden gem!
Nathalie did my hair and she did a great job! I had not gotten my hair cut in over a year and she took the time to wash, cut, dry and check for any stays after the blow dry. From trying random salons I figured out this isn’t always the norm. Apparently this place has been their for 5 years. Who knew! I usually dye my hair myself however, it looked and sounded like dying hair was a specialty. Nathalie told me that they don’t get much walk in traffic because of their location. So if you are looking for a great place to go in a rush I am fairly certain you could probably call the same day for an appointment or walk in and get seen by someone.

I went to Alycia, the store owner, 3 times for haircuts and style. I was growing my hair out to a straight bob style and she got me started in a satisfactory way. After that, she didn’t listen to what I wanted and I had to go back for a «fix» after the second haircut. At her suggestion, I took the first appointment of the day and she was at least 15 minutes late so I had to stand outside in the cold weather waiting for her to arrive and open the shop.
I decided to go for one more haircut to see if we could communicate better. I had to wait 30 minutes to be taken while I watched her do a precision cut on a client. When she took me, she thanked me for waiting, but I could tell she was pre-​occupied while I reminded her of what I wanted and trouble spots from the last cut. Alycia likes to chatter about her life and family while she works, which makes me nervous because I don’t feel she is paying close attention to my hair. Sure enough, after a rushed cut, I walked out with heavy bangs that were not piecy as I asked and the cut was uneven in back with the underneath layer too long and hanging out under the bob, something I specifically told her I don’t like and that she has done from the beginning. My hair had reached a length by that time where that was unnecessary. I definitely did not want to go back for yet another «fix» appointment, so I will no longer give this salon my business.

Got a stacked inverted bob done by Rachel during cut for the cure this October. I am beyond picky but she did really good, and you cant beat the price! ($ 22 with tip)

Honestly is there anything better than going to get your hair done? It always makes me feel like a new person, i love it!
This place is awesome. Alycia is the best. She is up on all the styles and trend for cuts and colors. This salon is fun, i enjoy sitting and talking with the girls while i get my hair done.

Came here again after a while, seeking another awesome experience. Alex is no longer working here, so I saw Rachel. Again, completely amazing. She knew exactly how to frame my face and handle my thick/​full/​curly/​wavy ton of hair.
As last time the salon was clean, well kept and stocked. Everything was up to date, the atmosphere was enjoyable and the women who work here are very sweet and personable. Will continue to come here and suggest others do, too!

I’ve been a regular client for years now. Alycia the owner and my stylist is the absolute best! She has lots of experience and always has the latest fashion accessories. Bling strands are awesome. The salon has a boutique feel and the others girls that work in the salon are fun too! They are always running specials check this place out!
