Midtown on Main Apartments

I just moved into this place with my fiancé almost a month ago. The management are very kind and always willing to help. When We first moved into our apartment, it was bad. They’d told us all of our appliances would be upgraded and brand new. It seemed that way at first-​until we decided to do our laundry. The dryer was brand new, no complaints at all. The washer, however, was a dinosaur. It was ancient, dirty, and leaked water all over the floor when we first used it. The worst part was that it wasn’t even plugged in and the outlet was missing so we had to call maintenance about that before we even used it. After it nearly flooded my laundry room, I sent another maintenance request and within two days, I came home from work to a brand new washer! (Thanks Leo and Marcus!) We also had to have the patio light put in because lo and behold, there was no bulb when we first moved in. The one complaint we still have is that it is quite ridiculous that we are forced to fork over $ 25 for valet trash. My fiancé and I are perfectly capable of taking our own trash out. Also, if you overstuff the valet trash can they give you, you’re charged extra for it. The parking lot also has soooooo many speed bumps.
Everyone we’ve met there has been wonderful. We’ve not had noise problems or any of the problems you normally hear about in apartment complexes like this. The maintenance team is still in the process of upgrading apartments and doing a lot of landscaping so even though it looks great now, it can really only get better.
If you’re looking for a great place and you’re willing to pay $ 700+ a month, this is it!

So far so good with this place! Have accommodated me amazing, my place is very nice and clean and spacious, very minor issues that I know they will stay on top of, but very courteous, friendly and safe!

My roommate and I moved into Midtown on June 20^th after having taken a couple tours. I thinj they were in the middle of transitioning management around that time so the leasing office was not well trained. After we got approved for the lease, we were not given any information about move in, even when we got our keys. We didnt even know what the gate code was! This, along with issues in our apartment like my closet missing a mirror panel door, laundry machines being filthy, linoleum floor peeling, or general uncleaniless with a broken promise of having a maid comr in did not leave a very good first impression with this place. However, since it is close to a lot of useful amenities for two college students, we decided to keep an open mind. Safeway, Walgreens, and Discount Tire are all walking distance as well as a few restaurants. Theres a hospital not 10 minutes down the road and a lot of useful shops at Mesa Riverview less than 5 minutes north. I will say that maintenace staff has always been efficient, timely in their repairs, and friendly. I have never felt uncomfortable, in danger, or unsatisfied with the results.
Conditions at Midtown have certainly improved in the several months we have been living here. Our buildings have received new paint jobs, there are upgraded apartments (though we live in one of the older ones), rent is at $ 740 with a cheap flat rate water bill, they serviced the entire apartment complex with pesticides for cockroaches, and have now provided a trash valet service 5 days a week. I dont even have to walk down to the dumpster anymore — i just leave my trashbags outside my door and it’s gone when I get home from work. Management staff have been far more helpful especially as there is less need to rely on them. I love that i can pay rent or make service requests online. The environment also feels very safe. I have not seen any crime, and my car has stayed intact. I will say that the gate has broken down somewhat frequently, and the keypad is inconviently placed so you have to really stretch your arm out. There is a small gym, but it has decent equipment in it. The pools are nice and well taken care of. The community center seems to actually be open now, but i have not been inside. The basketball and raquetball courts are pretty nice though.
I would say that although the 2 bed 2 bath apartments are kind of small, this apartment complex is a good place to live. The rent is decent, it is close to a lot of useful restaurants or stores, just minutes away from the light rail station, management is friendly and helpful, and maintenace is timely, efficient, and friendly. I would recommend people move in, and I have. The new management has turned things around well, and i feel quite comfortable living here.

Great priced apartments, not in the best area but they have great amenities. A great gym and rec room opening soon. They even have trash vallet where you put your trash outside your door at a certain time and they take it for you. I have never heard of that it’s fantastic! Great new paint job and upgraded apartments. You can tell the new management is really trying. Well worth the price and I’m glad I made the decision to move in.

11÷5÷15− I am updating my review and changing my rating to 3 stars. Since I posted this Tami the manager contacted me personally and really went above and beyond to not only apologize to me, but to fully rectify the situation. I have to say I’m really impressed and quite frankly shocked because I was not expecting anything from this review, I just wanted to warn people so they wouldn’t have to go through what I went through. Both April and Tami took the time to listen to what I had to say and took the measures to right what was wrong. BH management is REALLY trying to turn it around and right all the wrongs the previous management company did. I commend these individuals for their effort, and am reconsidering my move now that I know how hard they are working and how much they really care about the residents that call this place their home. For the first time since leasing the apartment 5 years ago, I truly felt like they only had my best interests in mind. Wow. Way to go!
My vehicle has been vandalized, broken into and most recently egged in the 5 years I’ve lived here.
In the last year, the owner filed for bankruptcy and it has been taken over by bh management. Well they are up to the same shady and unethical behavior as the last owners. They put a lease renewal notice on my door in the middle of the night, after the date that it legally had to be posted (AZ state law says rent increases must be posted at least 30 days before increase) when I went to confront them about it, their excuse was they knew it was illegal but they had to get the notices out, so they did it anyway. No where on the notice does it say that it won’t go into effect until after the following month since they gave it to me halfway through the month. I told DJ, «hmmm a more intelligent person would think you are trying to take advantage of me by breaking the law!” — then when I confront you about it act like it was fine and no big deal!!!
The only reason I have stayed here for so long was because the rent matched the neighborhood. I will not be paying almost $ 800 a month to live in one of the shittiest parts of Mesa!!! You guys not only broke the law, you lost a long term resident (income) who put up with your shady business practices! Good luck finding someone willing to pay that amount to live on the third floor (really high SRP in summer), where half the outlets don’t hold the plugs and the appliances are from the 1980’s!
You can’t just slap a new coat of paint on the place and rebuild the balconies and then charge people more rent! You haven’t done anything to increase the value of the inside; which we all know is what really counts anyway!

Sometimes you’re broke and you really want to save money. That means you look at a crappy apartment and think, «This isn’t so bad.» Midtown on Main is that bad. My review reflects living on the 3^rd floor in a one bedroom with my partner.
The parking and traffic flow is awful. If you live on the west side expect the gate to be randomly closed. A closed gates means entering a pointless code, watching out for pedestrians who don’t want to walk another 10 feet to the pedestrian gate, and having to take a 10 minute detour over a mountain range of speed bumps. Some mythical people have clickers to open the gate. I got one of these clickers and it broke. I told the management that my clicker wasn’t working. They said tough shit, took the clicker, and didn’t give me my $ 50 deposit back. Also be aware of the signs that say, «Mesa police is watching for stolen cars.» Luckily my car was only broken into once and some Game of Thrones books were stolen. Winter is coming, you book stealing bastards.
The grass is covered with dog shit and garbage. The dog poop is neverending. People also let their dogs run from their apartment to poop without a leash or a person to walk them. If you have a dog, expect it to get into at least a few fights with rando dogs. At night is when the cats come out. Someone feeds them in the southwest corner of the parking lot and they have started a clan. Seriously there are hundreds of feral, mean cats that are inbreeding. I also don’t think the sprinklers are meant for the grass. They are a nightly water show for you to slip on. You can always find one with a busted top that becomes a geyser.
During my lease the apartments changed leasing companies. In an attempt to rebrand they started painting and putting in new light fixtures. While appreciated, the paint job was spotty. There were also key things missed. Light fixtures next to the parking lots that were never fixed. Guard rails that were repainted but not repaired. Crumbling wood beams that were just repainted. The new management company then had the balls to raise the rent by $ 300. My rent was $ 640, please don’t pay more than that.
The pools are a joke. They are constantly closed for repairs and always disgusting. The single hot tub that services the entire complex is never open or it is mysteriously locked without a sign. For some reason one of the pools was filled in with concrete and is now a community area. The only thing that I’ve ever seen is drug deals. The recreation center has signs up from the old management company including one with the promises of a WiFi password. Alas this is nothing but a cruel lie. There is a community center in the back that has never been open. It has never been open in over a 14 months. I did hear a dog barking from within it, so there is probably a dog fighting ring or something inside of it. The playground is really sad with its ripped canvas top and the fast food remnants that have never been picked up.
The management company is awful. Going to the front desk is a lesson in futility. There is usually one person to handle complaints, give tours, and help with issues. The maintenance crew is varied. They helped repair my broken A/​C unit in a few hours but then never patched a hole in my ceiling for months it’s a mixed bag. You can also pay rent online which is okay, but the management company has changed websites three times since I moved in.
The apartment itself was constantly being invaded. Pigeons roosted on the patio and shit incessantly. I asked the management company and they just shrugged and said there is nothing they could do. This led to me mounting pigeon spikes on the rafters while hanging off the 3^rd story. To whomever moved in afterward, you are welcome. I also cannot overstate how hot the water gets. Serious 3^rd degree burns. Finally the cockroaches were rampant. I cleaned and sprayed but they were permanently infested. I asked the apartment and they offered no support and gave Burns extermination number. The only positive thing I can say is that I didn’t get bed bugs. That isn’t to say they aren’t at this complex. I saw the Burns extermination truck every other day. The ventilation in the bedroom and bathroom are awful. It was usually 10 – 20 degrees hotter than the living room/​kitchen. Finally the patio had a slight curve that makes me feel like its going to collapse at any point.
In summation please don’t live here. The buildings are over 30 years old and they show it. The management company thinks slapping a bright coat of paint on old buildings fixes the core structural issues but it doesn’t. Living near the light rail is cool but live somewhere else. Also to the person who stole my books, who the fuck does that?

This was the worst and most unsafe place I have ever lived at. For 5 months straight almost every night there were policeman coming in at all hours of the night arresting people. There was also (almost nightly) police helicopters with their search light going over the apartments. It was really common to watch an arrest go down right under my window at 3 am. Also imagine being terrified that someone is banging on your door and trying to break in at 3am in the morning. The security at the apartments is a huge joke. Th security man on duty is always sleeping in his car or no one bothers to even be on duty at all. There are really really creepy people at this complex that make you afraid to even walk from your apartment to your car. If you are a girl, I would never suggest living here. It is so unsafe. Also at one point there was 2 months of no outside lights being on. So it was especially creepy early morning/​late night because non of the lamps or above car spots would turn on. Sometimes we would wake up and have no running water for up to 2 days so I had to shower and wash dishes and do everything with gallon jugs. Having the water shut down for everyone was such a common occurrence me and my neighbors started stock piling gallons of water. No explanation why, no discount, or sorry that the water would repeatedly be turned off for long periods of time. If the power goes out (that happens to) just remember that this is a gated community (not like it keeps the weirdos out if anything it keeps them in). One time there was a huge electrical fire that spread from power line to power line and to the back of the asian market by the apartments. Everyone was locked into the complex with a raging fire because the power went out and the gates would not open. People started climbing over the fence to save themselves. It was terrifying.
Lets talk about the terrible management this place has. They are incredibly unhelpful and known for their dishonesty in all situations. The best part is that the staff who had the keys to apartments that are toured through would take people on tours during the day and then party and smoke lots and lots of pot at night. They even gave their friends the keys so they could come and party and smoke pot together and have little sleepovers. There were a few children that were often brought there also which gravely made me worried about their well being.
If this is your last resort to live here I wouldn’t take it at any cost. Your life, health, safety, and well being should not be put at risk.

I’m only giving it 1 star since that’s what Unilocal is forcing me to do. This place is HORRIBLE and I regret moving here and helping this staff pay their bill with my rent money. I’ve never been treated worse in my life than with the experiences here. False promises, horrible and I mean HORRIBLE customer service, power goes out, water mains break, parking lots are always dark (in this area that’s bad bad), shitty ass appliances and carpet, the gates work for about 2 – 3 days before they always stay open, the staff is always changing and is never consistent. They always want to argue and point fingers instead of listening to their paying customers. I beg you to please never make the same mistake I made and move into this dump. Actually this isn’t even considered a dump that’s too nice of a description. This place is a hell hole. There’s a crack motel across the street that is more than likely better maintained than this place. Stay there instead. Shit sleep under an overpass if you want.

I HATE this place. I have been held at gunpoint, my car has been vandalized, and the appliances never work. Today was supposed to be the final payment on my lease, and they told me that my written 30 day notice was never processed, so I actually owe another entire month’s rent plus 3 days prorate. Poor customer service on that part. Completely bogus and unacceptable. I regret moving into this dump. All they want is money.

Management doesn’t give a crap about you. The night after we moved in, our stove exploded. Our fridge gets a mystery puddle under it everyday and we’ve had constant issues with our washer and dryer. The prior residents nasty underwear and socks were still in the closet and laundry room when we moved in. It’s been 2 months now since we moved in and management simply keeps blowing me off. Don’t move here unless you want a hassle daily. Also the neighbors always smoke pot (against the lease) and our community supposedly has breed restrictions but there is a pitbull that is never on a leash living here. It’s absolutely outrageous! Not because if the dog mind you, but because of the fact that they don’t abide by their own lease here.

If the crime maps and the ghetto bird roaming at night don’t scare you away from midtown, hopefully this review will. Here is my list of crazyness I experienced at the infamous Midtown on Main.
1. GHETTO ASS NEIGHBORS:
(a) Across from our apartment lived a couple who enjoyed having parties monday-​thursday. On the weekdays when people with jobs were asleep, these people would be out on their balcony talking extremely loud. No joke, they always invited another couple who ALWAYS got into a fight. From midnight to 3:30 in the morning we’d hear the couple fight. The man would call her a dumb bitch, an effing c*nt… you name it, he said it. Then he’d leave and you’d hear the woman crying about how it’s the last time and she’s done putting up with his sh*t. Ok the first time I heard it, it was sad. But every week? really? No respect for herself or the neighbors!
(b) To the left of us lived a woman who hung out in her pajamas all day and loved yelling and cussing at her kids. This woman’s kids were out of control… they’d play video games late at night and turn the volume on full blast. They’d shoot airsoft guns at night or honk a blow horn. It was non stop with these kids and it was always super late at night. They were out of control. The dad of this household was missing for a while (we assume he was locked up)… one night when my husband went to check the mail, he saw the woman making out with some dude at the playground who wasn’t her babies daddy! sketchy sketchy.
© We lived above these girls who we’re disgusting. They would take out their trash and leave it at their door for several days!!! They’d had 4 – 5 bags sitting outside their door in the heat! The smell was awful. If they decided to throw out the garbage, they’d drag the bags and garbage would be all over the stairs. Sometimes they would leave the bags of garbage at the bottom of the stairs! It was so confusing! Like are you planning on having someone else throw that away for you?
(d) There was a random lady who would walk through the complex pushing a shopping cart and crying. Crying really loud. One night, not sure if it was her, but I woke up to someone walking through the complex crying and moaning super loud. Can you say creepy?
(e) Our car got vandalized.
OK still not convinced this place is terrible?
(2) INCOMPETENT STAFF:
(a) After our first month living here, we got a notice on our door that we owed over $ 50 because they gave us the wrong rate. Apparently, the girl who we signed our lease with made a mistake. Um, pretty sure you can just randomly decide that our rent is higher. We signed a contract. We refused and they said ok.
(b) Our pool key had difficulty opening the gates to the only 2 pools they decided to keep open. (btw pools are never heated). Sometimes it would take 3 – 4 people to figure out the gates because everyone’s keys didn’t work! One lady told me to demand a new key because the office staff was reluctant to give her a new one. I decided to go one day and ask one of the guy’s in the office and he kept questioning me like I was lying to him! He kept saying «really? your key isn’t working? I bet you it will work for me». OK guy, do you want to accompany me every time I go to the pool? I honestly don’t understand why they were so hesitant to give people new keys.
© One of the maintenance guys is a fricken prick. One time my husband went to pick up a package that was sent to me, and when the girl went to get the package, the maintenance guy questioned my husband and asked «is she even on the lease?». Um what? who are you? Another time they had left a note on everyone’s doors saying that everyone had to take down their patio shades and request an approved shade from the office. After receiving this notice, my husband spoke to the office staff TWICE and inquired about the shade. We were told that they had put in a request for a shade for us, and would notify us when one became available. While we waited for our new shade, we received a threat of eviction because we weren’t using one of their patio shades! My husband went into the office upset at the threat and the maintenance guy jumps in and basically tells my husband he shouldn’t be upset because everyone received a notice about the patio shade. UM okay, again, who are you? The girl in the office apologized for the notice and took out the eviction threat from our file.
LASTLY, upon moving out, the manager refused the do a walk through with us. Somehow whenever we were available, no one in the office was. They did the walk through without us and we got charged for a crack in the mirror that was already there when we moved in! LAME. If you still decide to live here, make sure you always make a copy of your rent checks and watch out for bugs. We were clean, but bugs loved popping up everywhere. Also beware of the train that comes right by the complex and blows its horn at 3 in the morning. well, good luck.

GHETTO! So sorry i moved into these apartments and so thankful i moved out! I
was on the first floor in one of their «upgraded» 2 bedroom unit alone. The windows
are floor level and have shrubs around them so its an easy target for theft. The
window in the second room didn’t even lock! It looked like it was forced open at 1 time
and it broke the lock. I notified the front office but got no response. I ended up putting
a long pole to jam it from opening and a loud alarm to sound when its opened.
Leasing agent: Great at first when doing my lease but when returning they are SO
snobby like if they were leasing agents in Beverly hills or something. The blond one
that’s kind of young is the worst! I don’t know why they keep her she must be «doing»
something if you ask me. I went in there when my apartment flooded and she glared
up at me while filing her nails like if i was bothering her! She should be working
at goodwill or something with that kind of attitude.
Bugs: THANK GOD no bugs but this is the kind of place where you have to kill the bug
put it in a baggie take it to the leasing office and throw it on their desk for them to even
consider doing anything about it.
Flooding: As stated I was on the first floor. supposedly the person on the 3^rd floor
left the water running and it caused my drains to over flow. The dumbest excuse ever!
That doesn’t even make sense! They did get someone to vacuum the area but that’s it.
it happened 3 times! I’m not talking about just tub water… there was paper that also
came up with hair and it smelled!!! It was a total health code violation and they should
have replaced the carpet and sanitized the area! When i moved out they gave me
literally .20 cents back because my «pets» used the carpet as their restroom spot.
WHAT! I don’t even have pets and I lived all alone!!! when the drains backed up it
damaged the carpets leaving traces of stuff! When i brought up the issue they forgot
that happened. I just let them keep the 200 $ to avoid the headache. Funny about a
month later i read on the news that this place had a BIG problem with flooding.
The 1^st floor apartments located by the office all flooded!
Pools: they were always closed even tho i wouldn’t even think of getting in them.
Parking: carry pepper spray… someone got stabbed at night when walking to their
car! I swear look it up!
Payment: Make sure to get certified checks not money orders because they like to
misplace your rent. Certified checks can be quickly traced.

I’ve lived here about a month and while I love the complex, I’m not thrilled with the leasing managers. We were told when we moved in that the complex had 5 heated pools/​jacuzzis, we actually choose our location based on this lie! They could have mentioned that only one of the pools is actually heated AND «turned off» this time of year. As for the «jacuzzis» only one of those is in working condition. But wait, there is more good news! When you call to ask about this they tell you that the «jacuzzie» nearest you is infact a «waiting pool.» (…what is a waiting pool?) Oh and Sorry about the type-​o on the complex map located in the front office. On top of all that goodness, just this morning I found my 4^th baby roach… I’ve called the front office 5 times and gotten ahold of no one… yay midtown on main.
