We provide honest reliable automotive repair service to valley customers at very competitive prices. I purchased this business in April 2016 to continue this tradition.

Being independent and family-​owned you get to know the owner, managers and the technicians working on your car. As a local repair shop we come to know you and your car. Because of this, we are able to provide you with personalized service not typically found with lube shops, discount chains, and dealerships.

We feature a clean, state of the art service department, ASE Certified technicians and complimentary loaner cars.

I graduated from General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) with a BSEE degree and I have over 33 years automotive industry experience. I grew up around cars and have been designing, building and/​or racing them since I was very young. I retired from working in Automotive Engineering and Manufacturing Operations in January 2016, and purchased Performance Automotive and Tire in April 2016. I am continuing the tradition of great service and can bring my additional technical experience to bear when required. My philosophy is simple: Fix it right the first time, make it right by the customer if for some unlikely reason we don’t, and treat all our customers they way I want to be treated.

I have had oil changes, car repairs, and recently had a pre-​purchase inspection of a used vehicle. Service is always excellent, and usually very fast. They don’t overbook appointments like most places, so you usually get in on schedule (occasionally there is a delay because of jobs that took longer before you).
A couple of reviews describe recommending un-​needed work. I haven’t experienced that. When my A/​C quit on my previous car & Honda quoted me over $ 1,200, they did a through evaluation and discovered my A/​C was fine, it was a defect in the computer and power system. As that repair must be done by Honda and was over $ 2,000 I didn’t have it fixed. Imagine if I had spent $ 1,200 only to find out I needed to spend another $ 2,000 on a car worth $ 4,000! My fee for all that work was $ 60 — way less than the time they spent.
Just an FYI, I’m female, and blonde.

Coming from San Diego, my A/​C crapped out on the way to Mesa. I feared there may have been a leak because the car is 11 years old. Bill and his team were friendly and determined there was no leak. After my sigh of relief, my Mbz SLK 350 needed an evac & recharge along with a pound of freon. I wish all my auto interactions in CA were as smooth as this. Thanks Bill.

I loved this place at first. Great service and friendly staff. During my first oil change the technician showed me a sample of all my fluids and advised on several things that should be done. He advised my transmission fluid should be changed and several of my coolant hoses were dry and crunchy. Ok… those made absolute sense. I was at 125,000 miles and my transmission fluid hadn’t been done since 60,000 I knew it was way over due and my car had been in this Arizona heat for 10 years I’m sure the hoses are starting to get dry. No big deal. Each oil change I crossed off one of these services. I was still very happy with them.
When I brought my car in for the third oil change and to have the coolant hoses done and the system flushed, all of the sudden they advised my A/​C manifold was seeping, it was down half a pound of pressure, and there was dye on one of the lines cause it was leaking. They told me I had to get a new manifold. Hmmm… why wasn’t that mentioned at my last visit? Randomly in the course of 3,000 miles my A/​C needed over $ 300 in repair? That didn’t sit right. Yeah, I got a second opinion on that.
The mechanic for the second opinion (who is trusted by several friends) looked everything over said he couldn’t find any leaks and that the system was not down half a pound of pressure. Hmmm… I’m not going to play the female card here but in general how many people have they advised their vehicles needed things fixed when nothing was wrong at all? How many people didn’t think to get a second opinion? It appears when you bring them them a vehicle in good condition they will find things to suggest to fix when nothing’s wrong.
Needless to say, they’ve lost my business. If you’re going just for regular oil changes and they suggest additional work… be aware of their game. At least they didn’t tell me there was a unicorn in my gas tank. But maybe they should try that.

Last week I went in for an alignment, I went by myself and I am a 28 year old female. I’m sure they just saw dollar signs, little do they know I actually know a thing or two about cars. They refused to do the alignment and said my bushings and the inner tie rod end needed to be replaced. They wanted $ 800. I literally laughed at them. I took it to my cousin and what do you know? There was absolutely nothing wrong with the car, except for needing an alignment. Never again will I set foot in Performance Auto! Very saddening, because I used to take my car here for anything but they’re a bunch of lying thieves now that management has changed! Get your act together.

Went in for an oil change and right out of the gate they found a noise coming from the engine and «found» a spark plug boot that was causing the noise. They pointed out the issue and stated it would be just over $ 100 to diagnose the problem and that they would have to «pull it apart and check the threading.» I declined and they continued with the oil change (which was a great deal). Upon completion of the service they informed me of other issues that were found which I very much appreciated. Once I left I went to an Auto Parts store, bought an $ 8 socket wrench extension and I tightened the spark plug which quickly solved the rattling noise and saved me $ 100+… To me it was a no brainier to attempt to tighten the spark plug but apparently it did not cross the mind of the ASE certified technician. Needless to say I will be getting a second opinion on the other recommended maintenance. The free soda and fruit snacks were a big plus however.

Performance Automotive & Tire Center has been maintaining my son’s car for several years; he always speaks highly of this business.
Recently my daughter, a single mother without, sadly, a trust fund… found that her car needed extensive maintenance. She took the vehicle to Performance, since her brother has had such excellent service.
The reason I’m writing a review for service I did not directly receive is simple: normally my adult children might look to their step father and his mechanical expertise (he had his own transmission and repair shop for many years.) However, we have moved out of state. So when my daughter needed repairs, she found exactly what she needed at Performance. They gave her an honest estimate, did the work promptly and charged fairly.
I know how few really good, honest repair places are available. My reason for making time to submit this review is based solely on appreciation: my daughter and her children are no longer riding around, hoping for the best, in a vehicle badly in need of repair. Thank you! I hope the maintenance technicians know how deeply grateful I am for their expertise. And a special thank you to Bill, who I gather may be a manager at the Mesa shop. If he isn’t, maybe he should be:) He was very patient with my questions and open to make time to give me an estimate for additional work. He was also honest in his assessment of the need for that work.

I will never again go to this service center. Never realized what a joke it is to get any sort of help from this place plus when it comes to any warranty issues, they’ll do just about anything to not cover it. replaced ignition coil on Dec, 2014 and the same coil went out in Jan 2015 they won’t honor the warranty both part or labor.
they even up charge more to replace the same coil that they charge previously. very disappointed

Based on the other reviews I decided to go check it out this morning for an oil change and after viewing their website I saw they had a great deal on a $ 14.99 semi-​synthetic oil change (+taxes of course) and figured it wouldn’t hurt to check it out. I called ahead of time to see I needed to make an appointment and I did not have to, they said just come on down.
I get there and show them the coupon and they said «Yep that’s good» and they also said they had a $ 49.99+tax semi-​synthetic oil change bundle that was three oil changes and at the time I settled with the $ 15 oil change but then eventually caved and went with the $ 50 oil change bundle (came to $ 52) and you get two oil change cards to use later on for a free semi-​synthetic oil change (for you or anyone you give the card (s) to). That’s a pretty damn good deal in my opinion.
The waiting area is really nice, they have free drinks like soda cans and bottled water as well as some little goods to eat or even coffee if that’s your thing. A good sized TV with a remote as well as magazines and semi-​comfortable chairs. It was a pretty good experience. It did take awhile (45 minutes-​1 hour) but there was a few people there so I won’t knock a star off for that and they did say that up front so pretty honest.
They also have a window in the waiting area so you can see the work being done to your car. It’s a nice feature. If you’re really concerned about your car you can see all work being done and the mechanic was very thorough with his inspection and I could see the effort through the window in the waiting area.
TL;DR: Great place! Great oil change bundle for an excellent price! Will definitely return.

I was sent here for the first time by Costco, as they broke one of the bolts when they rotated my tires. They fixed the bolt, so I decided to come back for an oil change a few weeks later. I had a coupon that was $ 39.99 for 3 oil changes, so I decided to use it. The first oil change happened, along with them saying I needed to fix a few things, but that was a given at a shop like this.
When I came back for my second oil change, the guy asked me for my «cards». I had no idea what he was talking about and he said I was supposed to have oil change cards. I told him I was not given any when I originally purchased the 3 oil changes; he said he’ll give me the «benefit of the doubt» and give me only one more oil change. I paid for 3, not 2!!! Don’t give me the «benefit of the doubt» for a mistake one of your associates made! If you ran a great business, you would have it in your system that I’ve only been here for ONE oil change and that I’m not trying to lie my way through oil changes.
I will never come back here again; although I still have 1 oil change left that I paid for, I will not come back to fight for that. This place is cheap and dishonest, unlike their website claims. I will pay more for an honest mechanic and oil change. No thanks, Performance Automotive!

Called, they were friendly and informative. Showed up to have a performance exhaust installed and they even gave me a loaner to use. Within an hour or so my truck was ready to go. They even have a full cooler of drinks free for customers. Every person I spoke to at this place was happy to help. So helpful that it almost made me nervous. Dealing with a repair shop is never this easy, right? It was with these guys! Thanks for Todd and others. I was impressed.

I have had nothing but great service every time I’ve visited. Best deal in town for oil changes, too: pay $ 40 for first oil change, and get the next two for free (keep in mind, that’s what I paid, However, prices can increase per inflation and costs of doing business). I haven’t seen anything in town that beats that deal!
The guys at Performance Automotive did some extensive work on the power steering unit in my 2002 Jeep Liberty; among some other small repairs and new tires. Having a loaner-​car over the weekend was a plus, and when I got my Jeep back, it drove like it was brand new! Whatever they did was outstanding, and I’m more than happy to be a regular customer.
They are a great bunch of guys, super clean shop and a great waiting room with free drinks and snacks. If you’re looking for trustworthy auto mechanics, then look no further than Performance Automotive & Tire.

This place is not your average automotive service business. Their customzer service is amazing! A comfortable waiting room with snacks, a controllable tv and magazines that cover more than cars? I’ll take that any day. They also have an amazing deal on oil changes. Their quotes for repairs are reasonable.
As a girl, a lot of automotive technicians talk down to me and pressure me into services. I didn’t get this treatment here. They were respectful!

Based on previous experience with an older car that could have cost me a fortune to repair I figured these guys to be honest mechanics. (They recommended not to bother as the car would not be worth the expense and recommended I look for another vehicle). I also loved the fact they offer a loaner vehicle.
I bought a used CRV and over one thousand dollars later and one repair after another (based on their recommendation) I was returning once again with yet another problem. Sluggish performance and engine light turning on. Got a call a few hours later telling me they changed the spark plugs and it would cost me $ 85. I could have changed the spark plugs! Why not just offer and let me decide?
The CRV ran fine but about one week later, my car was performing sluggishly once again and when I stopped back in, they said they would need more time to «investigate» what was wrong.
Sorry guys, I am not a money tree and a mechanic friend recommended I try STP fuel cleaner for $ 5.00 at Walmart. Did the trick and my car has been running great ever since (Going on 6 months). Who knows how much this might have cost me had I left it up to their discretion…
The fact you did not consult me prior to changing the spark plugs and the fact this sluggish performance could have been repaired with a cheap bottle of fuel cleaner caused this shop to lose my confidence and recommendation as a ‘go-​to’ repair center.

I discovered Performance Auto and Tire Center on accident after Sears Repair center right around the corner were basically big a-​holes. I was having issues with my brakes, so I just needed someone to look at them for me and let me know if I needed them fixed. The guys at Performance Auto took my car right in and let me know that I did not need new brakes at all! Loved the honesty.
I’ve now gone back 4 times for other auto issues (finally getting my brakes fixed :) and I really love the service and the pricing is very fair. When I walk in, it doesn’t matter that it has been a few months since I’ve been there, they know who I am and greet me by name. They always give me a quote quickly, no waiting for hours wondering what’s wrong with my car and then waiting around even longer to fix it. My daughter loves the fact that they have free goodies for her to snack on. Okay I admit, the snacks are nice for me too ;).
And if you don’t want to sit around waiting for the car repairs, they do have loaners they can give you! Maybe not the nicest cars in the world, but hey, it gets you out of the shop.
I highly recommend Performance Auto if you are looking for a repair shop that is honest, has fair pricing and doesn’t take an eternity to get your car fixed. Plus the guys there are really just cool, nice guys.
