History
Established in 2013.
I knew I wanted to make an «Old World» specialty cookie that people had an emotional connect to– and anyone who knows of pizzelles will say with heartfelt excitement, «Oh– my Nana used to make these!» or, «My neighbor in Michigan would give us a coffee can FULL of these at Christmas!» And I love the history of pizzelles– that they were given in times of celebration. I began selling pizzelles in a beautiful town called Fountain Hills– in front of Target. I met so many wonderful people while I stood outside– rain or shine– offering free samples of my freshly-baked pizzelles. At first, I made the traditional pizzelle flavors– Anise, vanilla and lemon. Then, I began created unique flavors such as cotton candy, honey cornbread, pineapple, caramel apple, maple bacon… the list goes on. The imported liqueur flavors are delicious as well– although I offer these as special orders. What makes my business unique are the interesting pizzelle flavors I continue to create.
Meet the Business Owner
Leslie V.
Business Owner
Leslie graduated with a Doctorate in Educational Leadership with her cognate area in Corrections Education. For 8 years she enjoyed teaching male incarcerates within the prison environment. When her husband of nine years was lost at sea in Alaska in a commercial fishing accident, she moved from Washington to Arizona with their two daughters. Their youngest was a newborn at the time, so Leslie stayed home with her. When it was time to re-enter the workforce, finding employment in such a specialized field proved a challenge. Leslie soon realized she would have to create her own opportunity. She researched farmers’ markets and festivals to see what was and wasn’t offered– and discovered no one made pizzelles! She had a pizzelle iron and spent months perfected each recipe. Using no butter or salt and less sugar, she baked traditional and truly unique pizzelle flavors. So– with an iron, perfected recipes, and truly unique flavors, Pizzelle Pastries was born!
