The Renshinkan is a Japanese martial arts dojo in Mesa, AZ. The primary arts we teach and practice at the Renshinkan is Jiyushin-ryu AikiBudo (aikido) and Shinto Muso-ryu Jodo.
Our Aikido is a synthesis of the teachings of Kano Jigoro (Judo), Ueshiba Morihei (Aikido), and Tomiki Kenji (a senior student of both Kano and Ueshiba) as handed down to us by our teacher C. E. Clark, Shihan.
Shinto Muso-ryu Jodo is said to be the oldest style for using a stick (jo) in combat in Japan. It was founded in the early 17th century by Muso Gonnosuke Katsuyoshi and our students study under the direct transmission of Phil Relnick sensei, Menkyo Kaiden.
History
Established in 1993.
Originally called Jiyushinkai, the Renshinkai has a history in the valley of the sun spanning close to 25 years. Originally located in Tempe on McClintock, it was the hombu for Jiyushinryu Aikibudo. When C. E. Clark, the founder, relocated Jiyushinkai to Washington state, the dojo was left in the very capable hands of his senior students. As is the tradition, the senior student renamed the school to Renshinkai.
