June 1982, Ed and Jo Smith purchased their ServiceMaster franchise. Ed had been working with Chevrolet Auto Parts Sales for the previous 29 years, Jo had been a Domestic Engineer, and the couple had five children to raise at the time. They were researching opportunities to begin a new venture and discovered the chance to begin their very own ServiceMaster franchise, which seemed to fit their criteria of being able to represent a company and provide a service that is based and founded on Christian principles. The four Corporate Objectives were the foundation to build upon: Honoring God in all things, helping people develop, the pursuit of excellence, and finally, to grow profitably.
