Decent deli food but really, really rude service! Go somewhere else !
If you do go there DO NOT GET ANY OF THE FISH DISHES. You can smell them from two tables away.

Updating my first review after going back to Martins for brunch twice. Both times were fantastic. The first time I got the trio of salad so I picked out three from the case that looked good and they didn’t disappoint (Brussel sprouts, egg salad, and chickpea salad). The mimosas are also really good and only $ 3. The second time I got the veggie sandwich and it was also really good (although missing the avocado I added for $ 1). My dad and boyfriend got the brunch special for that day which was baked eggs and grits. My dad raved all day about his breakfast. It’s a great brunch option and doesn’t get crowded until 1230 – 1 so there’s little waiting time for food.
Review from first visit:
I was only here for a meeting, but it was catered by Martins. The place is myself is pretty big. There’s a second floor with room for 50+ people. The food was good. we had two different types of salad (very important for a room full of dietitians), some pasta, chicken, rice, and bread pudding. The staff was really pleasant. I just wish I had time to look around at the wines and try some (there were people giving out samples when I first got there). I can’t wait to go back and shop!

Never had a bad meal, great fancy salads and sandwiches for health food kick or just because it’s good. Sometimes you’re just in the mood for something really fresh, wish I could afford to have them cook at my house

I love Martin’s: their food is great. Their goofy soup selections are strange but always delicious. I’ve never had a bad meal here, but my favorite is the Californian sandwich: turkey, havarti, avocado, sprouts, tomatoes, mayo on a pita, simple and perfect. The only thing that keeps this from 5 stars is that their dining area is cramped and too small. I like to stop in the store for some special treats. They keep NYC bagels in the freezer, nice selection of unique beers that I like to surprise my husband and guests with, and most recently I’ve enjoyed buying some fine bourbons for my husband’s stash. The staff is always helpful to give good advice about taste points without trying to up-​sell you on items. I like to stroll the food tidbits for a special addition like a fine cheese or chocolate.
This is not a fast food place, so you do have to wait on your food to be hand made.

I have been here on several occasions, for various reasons. The parking lot is easily accessed, in and out. There seems to be plenty of parking for the random times I have come.
The wine and alcohol side have a wide variety of options from all price ranges. The aisles are wide, convenient for busy times. The deli section has a variety of meats and cheeses, and the staff will let you sample (within reason of course). The sandwiches and soups made fresh at the deli (there is an indoor seating area) are all very good. The entire store has a basic polished cement floor that is all very clean and clear of debris. The lighting is not the bright lights that hurt your eyes in a regular store, but bright enough to see. I have found the staff to be friendly and available for questions and suggestions.
I like coming here on occasion and look forward to coming back.

Came close to closing time for some sandwiches for dinner. I got the Cuban sandwich and my fiancé got a roast beef on multigrain. We also got sweet potato fries and one iced tea. The bill came in over $ 30 was I thought was a little steep, especially considering we both thought our sandwiches were kind of dry compared with our past experiences. Maybe it was because they were getting ready to close, I’m not sure. The sweet potato fries were nice. I’ve found that I like their sandwiches in the past more, so I’d give them another shot. And the sandwiches weren’t bad, they just fell short and didn’t justify the price.

I would love to give this place four stars ad will come not as close to closing time to try again. They close the deli at 8:00, we got there at 7:20. The people were super friendly and the menu is great. I got a hot roast beef on 7-​grain with Swiss and coleslaw. My fiancé hot the pressed Cuban. And we got sweet potato fries. The fries were fantastic. The flavors of the sandwiches were great. But they were both very, dry. My roast beef def needed more gravy, it was pretty dried out. The Cuban had bred that just had a small part of mustard on it. We will definitely give it another try!

The wine selection and prices are great.
God forbid if you’ve never been to their deli before for lunch though!
Our buzzer went off and my husband grabbed what he thought was our order.
When I took it back about 3 workers & customers yelled at me for taking the wrong order!
Don’t need that !!!
And after I thought I was done complaining … Found a hair in my sandwich!
Guess next time I come here I’ll stick to only buying wine!!!

LOVE THESE GUYS! They catered a big party we threw in New Orleans last month.
We live out of state and it’s a little scary to go blindly on someone’s recommendation for catered food — we all know how much people LOVE to eat. They did not dissapoint one bit.
Gena was great to work with and very professional. The wait staff and bartenders were easy going, nice and very good at what they do – making sure no one is hungry or thirsty :)
The food was perfect. Delicious and beautifully presented. I’m still hearing from guests about how great it was — not your typical party food. Highlights were the Savory Lemon & Artichoke Cheesecake, Orzo Salad, Thai Chicken Skewers, Crab Salad Ravigote apps and that great selection of grilled vegetables.
We couldn’t have asked for a better partner to throw a party.

My fellow Yorker elite and friend Kim-​Thao suggested we eat here for lunch. Yummy yummy! You walk in and it’s like a wine store, hence wine cellar. To your left is a dining area with a full kitchen, cold cuts, cheeses, and desserts. We tried the Cuban sandwich and Sena salad. The salad was so fresh and light, it tasted great. The Cuban sandwich was flavorful and delicious, I always love a good Cuban sandwich. I got their skinny fries and it tastes like Rally’s fries! Talk about yum. This is a great lunch place.

Really good lunch spot, although I haven’t been as many times as I’d like to try more things.
One of the best beer selections in the city, to go along with the wine and liquor selection. A little bit pricier than some other places, but maybe it’s worth it for the fact that it’s such a high quality store.

This review is strictly for the Sunday brunch. Each week the menu changes, with different specials each Sunday which can be a negative or positive, depending on if u have a favorite item and they don’t feature it again. I was able to try quite a few options with my favorite being the fried chicken sandwich which was enough for two people to share. The grits and grillades were also good, which like the chicken sandwich was more than enough for one person. My least favorite option being the quiche which was extremely tasteless and disappointing. The cake is delicious and will leave you wanting more.
Overall it’s a decent option if your looking for a light and satisfying brunch option and don’t feel like dealing with long waits at other restaurants. Each entrees ranging from about $ 8-​$ 15, it’s extremely reasonable. Mimosas are $ 3 each which I think is a sin and should be bottomless but maybe they’ll change that in the future.

Wonderful lunch spot with a a variety to choose from. I always order the Californian on pita bread, but they’ve got a multitude of sandwiches, salads, soups, sides and specials everyday. The ingredients are always fresh and the food is always consistent. Not to mention the vast wine selection and little market area in the back. Really just this place! My only warning for newbies is that it gets quite crowded at lunch and even though the dining area is large, it fills up fast, but people usually rotate in and out pretty fast.
Tip: order a side of the red wine vinaigrette to dip your sandwich in or to pour over your salad, it’s the bomb dot com!

Ordered the California sandwich and Caesar salad. Sandwich was short on protein and high on mayonnaise. A generous portion of avocado was on it however. The salad was very big and overly dressed. I could hardly taste anything but dressing=very salty.
At nearly 20 dollars, I was not super impressed. I am willing to give it another try in the future. Advice: Ask for light mayo if you like it on your sandwiches. I will leave it off in the future. Asking for dressing on the side is a must for their salads. Customer service was not bad. Cashier was not accurate in portion sizes, but was efficient.

I like Martin Wine Cellar a lot more than I used for a lot of reasons. First, the staff has gotten a lot more friendly. In the past, the staff seemed a little distant and sometimes even rude and snooty. Many were extremely condescending especially if you asked for a recommendation of a wine under $ 15. But that has slowly changed over the past few years. The staff is much more friendly and helpful regardless of the price range you are seeking.
Another reason I did not like Martin’s was because their prices were high in comparison to their competitors’. That has changed as well. Martin’s wine prices are much more in line with what you find at other wine shops and grocery stores. They also have a good selection of inexpensive wines and have a lot of wines on sale. This is something that I definitely appreciate.
The food at the deli is great too. The sandwiches in particular are really really tasty. My favorite is the pastrami. They are a little pricey, but the quality is definitely there and is commensurate with the pricing. And the cheese selection is awesome as well.
I definitely recommend Martin’s.

My girlfriend and I came here last weekend looking for a few specific items. I found my bottle of nice scotch and red wine that I was looking for quite easily. She had to get some help to find the mead she was looking for and never could find a bottle of wine she was looking for. The staff were helpful and knew where the items were, but they didn’t seem overly excited to be working on a Sunday.
Martin’s has a great selection of wines and spirits from all over the world, as well as craft beers from the metro area and beyond. They also seem to usually have pretty good prices as well.

Found myself in Metairie with an old friend at Martin Wine Cellar. At the same time also met a good guy and his wife who is a regular here on Unilocal.
Enjoyed a wine tasting and then sharing a table over some cheese with my friend and his family. It was Friday night and there was room for a get together.
Decent food and an assortment of wine and cheese can make an evening out so much fun. There was no parking problem and the place is nice. The workers were attentive and assisted in every way to make sure you enjoyed your selection of food and wine.

I remember this place Uptown used to be «the place» to go. I was in Metairie today so decided to get a sandwich to go. I ordered the sandwich on sourdough bread and wanted tomatoes and onions on it. When I got home, the bread was stale and falling apart. Two slices of tomato were on one side of the bread along with a lot of purple onion slices. So I moved some of the onion over to the other side of the sandwich, and I sliced a tomato I had at home and put two slices on the other side of the sandwich.
After I started eating it (and the bread is falling apart), II took the insides out and threw the bread away.
So much for Martin’s Wine Cellar and their food.

Martin Wine Cellar is well known for their great selection of reasonably priced wines and higher quality vintages. There is also quite a few reviews on their great lunches.
We’ve now stopped in several times with friends on Friday nights to take advantage of Martin’s for Dinner. You have to plan on eating early as they close at 8 pm. But that isn’t a big deal for us.
Both my wife and I are partial to the Californian sandwich, which is turkey, Havarti cheese, avocado, and sprouts on creole mustard in a toasted wheat pita. It almost sounds healthy. It’s also very good. The Executive club is another good choice. The Steamboat is a large sandwich on an onion roll stacked with corn beef, ham, and bacon. I tried the Hamburger I had read so much about. I don’t know if was dinner rather than lunch time, but it just didn’t live up to expectations. But I didn’t let that one experience ruin the review. So far, all the named sandwiches have been great.
When we know we’re going out later, we’ve had the cheese and fruit plate. They rotate the cheese so it’s a different plate each week. Each time I buy the plate, I generally end up getting one or two cheeses I’ve never tried before. And that is what dining out is all about.
Martin’s offers several small plates as part of their dinner menu. Friends like the seared tuna, but I haven’t tried it yet. I trust their judgment when it comes to tuna. There is also a small pizza on the nightly menu. It’s one choice and it changes every week. The one pizza I ordered was a mushroom and veggie combo (meatless) on a thin crispy crust. Very light sauce.
You have the option of soft drinks with the meal. Or you can wander out into the retail area and pick out (and buy) a bottle of wine to go with your dinner. I take advantage of this option and we have a bottle with dinner. And compared to what wine would cost in a restaurant, I get a tremendous upgrade in the quality of the wine.
They have a nice dessert counter. I stand there and look at the various cakes, pastries, and pies… all crying my name, tempting me. It’s such a hard decision, until that jealous glass of wine beckons me back to the table. And I drink my carbs…
The prices are very competitive. Customer Service is great.
