History

Established in 1897.

Our History

We were chartered as The Metuchen Building and Loan Association in 1897 in order to develop the Woodwild Park area of Metuchen. Through conservative management and expansion of services, Metuchen Savings Bank has survived two world wars, the Great Depression and numerous economic recessions to help thousands of people realize their dreams of home ownership. As the Bank grew so did out suite of deposit and lending products. Our Charter was changed to Metuchen Savings Bank in 1993 and Commercial Checking Accounts and a Night Depository were offered to the business community. Automated and Online Banking Services were introduced. For years, Metuchen Savings Bank has maintained our reputation as a responsible lender… putting people in their dream homes, not in debt.

I downloaded the app specifically to write this review. I would never do business with these people. I was in from out of town and stopped in to get a roll of quarters for the parking meters. I as told they could not because i didn’t have an account. I can understand not cashing a check or providing other services. But not giving an out of towner a roll of quarters is un-executable in my opinion. Imho This also reflects the attitude of the community regarding people not from there. They must not want our business. I walked across the street to Chase bank and they did it with a smile. With service like this it’s no wonder the big banks are taking over.

Great bank… very personal service… they make you feel like a person and not a just another cog in a faceless corporate monolith. Everybody really tries to help when you have a problem. Was a victim of identity theft and they closed my accounts and issued new ones and helped me find where the problem was.

Disappointed. Metuchen is a quaint town where Main St. is populated with mom & pop small businesses. Well Fargo is the only chain on Main St. in downtown. I entered Metuchen Savings Bank needing change and thinking that while big chains would probably make me have an account to give me two tens for a twenty, that this neighborhood bank would not. Wrong. No account, no service. I told them I was thinking of opening an account there (that was true). «No.» I told them I was a Metuchen resident. «No.» Went across the street to Wells Fargo where I also don’t have an account. They gave me change. I think I’ll open an account there.
