The Alexander – All Suite Oceanfront Resort

SO I HAVE NO IDEA how this place received such a low rating we booked the junior suite Sunday night with a family of 6 4 adults 2 children we booked it on priceline and it was an amazing room very beautiful suite all updated with 2 bedrooms a living room and a kitchen filled with all the cooking utensil stove fridge/​freezer and silverware and plates really good. The beds were very comfortable and we could have had may 2 or 3 more people with us and still been very comfortable. The bathrooms were all very clean and nice and the balcony had an amazing view.
The pool and spa were all awesome and even better at night with all the colors and the bar which we were given 2 vouchers for a free drink which was cool but the drinks weren’t all that great our room had our own wifi but later found out it was part of the hotel service fee of 19 $which we unexpectedly paid for when checked out that and the 21 $ a day parking fee which was ridiculous especially if we were staying for let’s say a week be prepared to pay at least a hundred was but all in a ⁴⁄₅ I will be back when friends for a miami get away !

La chica de recepción no tenía ni idea de español y cada vez que tenía que hablar con nosotros llamaba a un hombre encargado de recoger maletas.

This hotel doesn’t even deserve one star. Save yourself, DO NOT STAY HERE. Mariella «the manager» is by far the worst person I’ve EVER met in my life. RUN. This place shouldn’t be considered a hotel.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights Labor Day weekend. The hotel and grounds are lovely. They reflect old Miami charm more than a new hip vibe. We had a lovely two room suite with a kitchen. My only major complaint was the really loud DJ at the pool in the afternoon. This resort has 5 star potential it just needs a upgrade in their housekeeping and maintenance. I saw the same lint on the carpet and spots on the marble floor outside the elevator the entire 3 days we were there. While no a huge deal in itself, it made we wonder who is minding the store. Overall, I would reccomend this property, especially for a family with children (they also have a small playground on the grass near the beach)

Please save yourself the frustration and DO NOT STAY HERE. I booked a suite in January for my stay in September, and when I arrived in September they «lost» my reservation. And on top of that, the lady at the front desk helping me was very rude. She told me to leave my number and when the situation gets sorted out, they would call me. They called a few hours later, and I went back to the hotel. When I went to the front desk to finally check in, they said they needed my credit card to charge $ 615 to it for the two night stay. HOWEVER, when I booked in January the total was $ 518 AND I had already put a deposit down for $ 209. So I told the front desk lady this and she said she would have to speak with the Accounting Dept. So I checked in, received my room key, went up to the room, only to notice the door was already open. Anyway, I proceeded to walk in and put my things down and check out the suite. As I was on the balcony, a gentleman from the cleaning staff walks in looking confused as to why people were in the room. So we told him we had the room and he left. As if that wasn’t enough, the suite was old and smelled like an old building, so I decided I wasn’t going to stay there. I went back down the front desk and told them I wanted a refund. They canceled my reservation for the two nights with no problem, however Accounting had to issue my $ 209 deposit from January. So I had to pull up my bank statement from January along with my reservation email to prove that I had indeed reserved the room and paid a deposit for it. I sent it to them and the front desk person printed it out and put it in the box for Accounting. She also sent Accounting and email and cc’d me on it so I can know who to contact in Accounting. We were supposed to check-​in on ⁹⁄₅. It’s ⁹⁄₁₀ and I haven’t received my deposit or any email from anyone stating when I’ll get my refund. I contacted them and asked when I would receive my refund and they said they would process it that same day. On ⁹⁄₁₄ I checked my statement and saw that THEY CHARGED ME ANOTHER $ 209 and then proceeded to refund me that $ 209. So, they still owe me $ 209 from January. I emailed them again, and as of ⁹⁄₁₅ I have not received any response from them about my money. They are very frustrating to deal with, so please please please save yourself the stress and stay elsewhere.

This is a beautiful suite. You can see the ocean and harbor. Less than 10 minutes from South Beach. The poolside is cool and the bartenders and food are good. The hotel is very accommodating. We had a few issues with noise because of construction and they were willing to switch us with no problem. We loved our room so we decided to stay. The noise went away. Overall I’m glad we picked this hotel. I would definitely book here again.

Stayed for a week and it was pretty good. Once I made the reservation they sent an email with everything that they charge, so i was prepared to what my ultimate total was going to be. The condo I was provided was pretty nice, clean and with all the necessary and included FREE WIFI! Housekeeping was included, upon request sometimes, so i didn’t have to do the ditches! I did need to ask for the plates and glasses replacements. Staff was friendly and helpful. Even at the pool bar the service was pretty good, even though the 18% gratitude fee was included in every order. I will definitely recommended, specially for families.

This place needs some big time updating from the rooms to the least place you can think. The rooms had roaches and weren’t clean appropriate. The pool bar drinks are mad expensive for the service you get and the place that you are. The hotel restaurant makes you travel back in time and smells bad. After staying there for about a week I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone.

Nasty staff, dirty, smelly, and outdated décor! Stay away. The elevators, pool and beach are cramped by large groups that save chairs. They up charge for everything.

This hotel is amazing. I booked a 2 night stay here for my anniversary. As soon as I walked in Valet was friendly and not pushy at all. They actually told me that there was a free overnight parking just two lots down from them (after 6PM). Check in, Daniela was amazing. We got an oceanfront upgrade. She was professional, friendly and competent. Way to go! Great way to start your stay with some great costumer service. Our room was just amazing located on the 15^th floor. Really clean, amazing view and very spacious. I have stayed at many 4 and 5 star hotels around the states and outside and this has been one of my favorites so far. Maybe because of the service given. The pools are small, but you get 3 of them and the hotel is not crazy crowded, so its just feel perfect.
If you are looking for a nice hotel, quiet location but at the same time conveniently located. This is your hotel. I’m really satisfied so far with my stay. I’m not very picky, but I like to feel that my money was worthly spent. This hotel was.
Tips try to get and oceanfront at a higher level renovated room. You wont be dissapointed.

Booked a reservation and arrived to check in yesterday. The looked nothing like advertised. Very subpar. Extremely rude front desk staff and management. Hidden fees. Extremely noisy due to construction which management pretended they could not hear. Based on the terrible attitude of management, poor room conditions and noise decided to find another hotel. Don’t waste your time or money at this place.

This place needs a complete overhaul. My brother and sister-​in-​law requested (and paid for) a deluxe oceanfront suite and instead, we got some run-​down Miami-​Vice-​Era 4^th floor room. After two days of working with the management, we finally got upgraded to a better suite. The suite we were moved to was uncomparably better, but it was still filled with broken IKEA cabinets and furniture. As for the rest of the hotel — the carpets in the hallways were disgusting, paint was chipping everywhere, the restaurant was creepy, construction was happening everywhere (probably a good thing for the long term), elevators were slow, and the front desk was horribly rude. As for the positive things — the view was spectacular and the wi-​fi was free.

Reserved a deluxe ocean view suite, were instead placed in a shabby room with a view of the construction project next door.
After multiple attempts to rectify the situation we were finally moved to the luxury suite that we had originally reserved.
The room was nicer and we were satisfied.
The staff however was very rude and unapologetic.
The cleaning staff was subpar, and showed very little concern when we asked them to locate a phone that was left behind in the first room. Claiming they never found it.
Sounds fishy to me.
We will never stay at the Alexander again.

Where to start? The hotel in itself is okay, mediocre pools, lobby is okay, gift shop doesn’t sell much. The rooms are privately owned & rented out. So the rooms are quite large, most have two bedrooms, 1 or 2 bath and a living area and full kitchen. If you go through the hotel you have no clue which room you’re getting. We asked the hotel to give us a 2 bed & 2 bath. They had us booked in a 2 bed 1 bath. That wasn’t going to work. They were unhelpful and rude on the phone the whole week prior, they also had us set to move rooms THREE TIMES in 5 days. No no noooo!
We have stayed here before about 5 years ago and didn’t have this experience. So we went online and booked through Hora rentals, and we had to stay in two different rooms, we stayed in 819 & 921. The people who own these are really just trying to make money and making it possible to cram all the sardines in the can, in 819 BOTH of the rooms even the master had two beds in there, I think queen. The other room had 2 full beds. Pretty dumb for 2 couples. Being used to a king we slept in different beds…
In 921 the master was a nice king bed and nice bathroom. The second bedroom was very strange. Two twin beds which seemed like rollaway cots… The room also had a couch with a pull out bed in it… The worst part of this room was the second bedroom had a door in the hallway and it had glass doors facing the living area! Very strange… Thank god it had curtains, even though they were cheap and didn’t do much it helped. Okay the absolute worst part about this room, you are on the corner, facing away from the beach, so facing the bay and the road. We heard engines, sirens, every noise on the street ALL night. Oh and there was some construction going on by both of the rooms during the day. Starting around 9 or 10 am, but that wasn’t unbearable.
I’m thankful the rooms were large and updated though. Nice kitchens and bathrooms. I definitely preferred room 721 over 921. The only thing good about 921 was the fact that the master bedroom had one bed.
If you’re going to book this hotel I recommend trying hora rentals if the hotel management is being useless, which they probably will be!

This is a hotel-​condo type deal, however from the ever so fancy entrance and nice lobby, I expected much better. The outside looking in seems a bit run down with expenses mainly kept in keeping the pools and garden looking nice. However the rooms and the balconies and even the hallways are pretty shady. We stayed in an ocean view suit on the 11^th floor. At first sight it was nice with the white leather chairs (which will very from room to room since owners decorate and whatnot) and beige tile floors. But the little things like the slightly dirty shower and paint chipping windowpanes got to me. I noticed on the second full day that there were little bugs on the floor of the bedroom and on the window adjacent to that floor. They seemed like nothing to worry so I just moved my stuff on the dresser. Later the bugs were up there too and looked like microscopic spiders. Well, that kind of freaked me out. I couldn’t really complain to anyone because it seems like the entire staff has English as their second language. Since I wasn’t the one paying for the room, the experience wasn’t so out of whack however I would never voluntarily go to this hotel again nor recommend it to anyone. There are so many cleaner and friendly options out there. I felt gross the entire time.

Reservations or the front desk messed up our reservation, and we didn’t get the suite type we had reserved. While they admitted it was their fault, our family had to move 3 times to finally get the suite that should have been given from the start. This took 2 hours!!! With a baby with us and dealing with an unempowered and unsympathetic front desk staff, this was very stressful. No management was on property. The next day we paid a lot for a poolside cabana (more like a storage locker with a bathroom) which the staff was not able to at first open nor stock with towels or hand soap for half the day. Calls and emails to the manager proved that she doesn’t care about the guests. Never an apology and very unresponsive. We were never able to find a manager on site. She was always «In a meeting» or «just left». She eventually (via message) gave us a comp «cabana» for the following day. She could have at least also comped the daily crib charge or breakfast one day for all the room problems. Definitely do NOT recommend.
And the lower pool is not heated. They keep it cold!
Staff in the restaurants are nice. Food was good.
Desk staff will NOT give you change for a $ 20 to tip the bellman or valet.
Suites away from the beach are very loud with sirens and traffic noise. Some suites are nicer than others, Bathrooms were very small, but the rest of the suite was large.
Beach chairs cost $ 35 for a pair for the day. Beach is very sharp sand and rocks, need water shoes. Beware of jellyfish.

The rooms are HUGE. Each room has at least 3 beds, possibly 4 if you get the two queens instead of the king. Plus someone could easily bunk on the couch (es). The kitchens and bathrooms are usually decent but could use some upgrading and maintenance depending on which unit you get. That’s the real drawback — because each unit is owner-​owned, you never know if you will get a good one or a bad one. But you can’t beat the location and size. The restaurant in the hotel is decent but you get real sick of the food about 24 hours into your stay. My advice: rent a car or have a cab take you to a market nearby and save some money/​eat healthy by taking advantage of the kitchen.

Let me start off by saying that I love Miami and I take a trip there at least once a year. I usually do not have any problems with the hotels and if I do, they are usually minor and not worth mentioning. This year my friends and I decided to stay at the Alexander because they have 2 bedroom condos and they are reasonably price, but you get what you pay for. We arrived at the hotel around 9:30 p.m. and check-​in went fine, we dropped our bags off in the room and met up with other friends that were staying at the hotel. We got back to our room around 3 a.m. and I went to take a shower and I saw a long black hair in my shower but, I did not really care about the hair, and it was late so I got in the shower and I slipped and almost fell on something that felt greasy in the tub. So, I got out of the tub and ran some water to try to clean it out myself. Just a reminder that it was late and all I wanted to do was sleep. When I got back out the shower I went to use the bathroom the toilet bowl was disgusting with dried up urine all inside of it. So I lifted up the whole seat, and I’m not sure if it was feces or vomit, but clearly the bathroom was not cleaned. I decide to lie down, but now I could not sleep because I started to think that if they did not clean the bathroom then maybe they did not clean the sheets either. So, I went downstairs and spoke to the lady that was working at the front desk and I told her what issues I was having and I wanted to know what time housekeeping was coming because I wanted the room thoroughly cleaned. The lady at the front desk apologized and told me that housekeeping will be in around 9 a.m. and she will make a note in the system. So, I went back upstairs and I refused to sleep in the bed, so I took a towel out on the balcony and laid on the patio chair until about 7 a.m. I then went back downstairs, and I talked to a different lady at the front desk and she said that she saw the note in the system, so I asked her could I just be moved to another room. She said that she would call me when there was one available and within an hour or so, she was calling me with another room. I got to this room and went straight to sleep because I was so tired from not getting any rest the night before. After I woke up, I took a shower, and in order for the shower to work I had to pull down on the bottom of the faucet, so I pulled it and the whole faucet came off and water shot everywhere. At approximately 1:30 p.m. I took the faucet down to the front desk and I requested to speak to the manager. I explained everything that has happened and had even showed pictures of the toilet from the other room and told her that I appreciate them moving me the first time but I am beginning to get a little frustrated. She said well, the best that I can do for you is give you and your guest a coupon for a free drink and breakfast. This manager was not empathetic and not once did she apologize. So, I asked her how much I would have to pay if I was able to find another hotel, somewhere else. She stated that I will have to pay for the full amount of last night and she will give me half off for tonight if I can be out of the hotel by 5 p.m. I said I understand paying for last night but why are you charging me for tonight when I haven’t even stayed the night. The manager stated that well, you stayed here for this long and someone else could’ve rented this room, I said that doesn’t make sense. It does not make sense to pay for 2 hotels in the same day, so I felt like I had no choice but to stay at this hotel. I told the manager that I thought that she sucked as a manager and she starred and me with a smirk on her face and said so are you leaving? I said you really should be trying to accommodate us and my friend said to the manager «on top of everything else, our internet connection is not working,» the manager then called over to the concierge, & I believe that his name was David and she said can you find these ladies a nearby hotel, I said did we request for you to do that, I said you know what we aren’t going to get anywhere, so what is your name? She looked at the other lady at the front desk and said «give her my card,» and she then said that «if you leave before 5 let us know». (The business card read Mariela Ivanova). At this point I felt like she was trying to not only get me to leave but also charge me for a night that I haven’t even stayed yet. I have never had to give a bad review on a hotel and I have never received such poor customer service in my life. I will find it hard to believe that this lady does not have any other complaints.

I loved this place. For the price you cant beat the accommodations. I was extremely skeptical after reading the reviews, but I quickly realized, these folks are probably the pretentious types that were looking for rooms with zero flaws and people to. We were in room 1604 and we had an amazing views from both sides of the balcony — ocean on one side and Millionaires Row on the other.
The customer service was great at all levels. Food was over priced, but so is all food in Miami. Both pools were really nice — the upper pool was more geared to the older crowd, while families stayed down by the lower pool.
Our room, was a 2BR, 2 bath suite that was beautifully remodeled or so it appeared. Very clean and extremely comfortable. I was totally stay here again in the future.

Of all the hotels in Miami beach, this hotel has maintained it’s nostalgic luster.
At first site, you might be a bit scared. My kids actually asked if the hotel was haunted. The furniture and décor in the lobby is similar to that of the Haunted Mansion ride at Disney. Take the elevator to the 14^th floor and enter your suite and you will feel like you have entered an episode of Miami Vice. From the white lacquer kitchen, to the 80’s room décor, I felt like Sonny Crockett was going to bust through the door.
The service provided by the staff was meritorious. The room was clean, spacious and well kept. The pool area on the main level can use a little update. There is a lower level pool, but it is still under construction. Beach access is right at your feet which is a huge plus.
Not sure if I would stay again, but did enjoy my stay
