UYE – Dive Bar Dash 2.0

Ok. so I am super late with my review. I apologize.
I didn’t attend the whole Dive Bar Dash except for Lost Weekend, so let’s talk about that.
First of all, I just want to say how much I adore all you Unilocalers. When Michelle Z. nudged me to become more active and attend events with her, I was a little hesitant because I am a bit shy around new people, but you guys are just rays of sunshine who made me feel at ease and I am so glad I’ve met you all!
Anyway, back to the event, Michelle Z. Mercy, my friend Jen and I got to Lost Weekend, one of my favorite places on the beach, and not long after the cutest blue eyed boy we know walked in — Paul W. walked toward us and we waited as the others trickled in. Pretty soon Lost Weekend was packed with Unilocalers. I don’t think they were ready for the craziness that ensued. Shots after shots, total domination of the jukebox by Nate, Maria and Patrick, lots of dancing, laughing, and pictures! So much fun!
I had such a great time that night and I have you guys to thank, so THANK YOU! Oh, and I walked away with a boyfriend that night too, so that was pretty awesome. ;)

Since I only participated in one part of this event– the Lost Weekend part– this is only going to cover that part of the evening.
1) Eve– you are awesome for assembling so many people together and getting everyone from one location to the next– from what I hear I missed out on some good times from the earlier venues. Thank you for putting this together
2) Unilocalers– whenever bartenders/​managers/​hostesses seeing us coming from the distance, I imagine them hearing this: (as we approach in slow-​mo of course)

3) Lost Weekend–
It’s become a tradition. I come here, order a beer or two. Nicole A. convinces me to do a cherry bomb. An hour later I’m elbows on the table, eyes shut, with a shrimp po’boy in my mouth and people around me asking for pieces of shrimp.

A place so wonderful we went back twice.
An epic evening, with so many wonderful people. Look forward to the next one!

Year two of the UYE Dive Bar dash was also the one year anniversary of the first time I hung out with amazing Unilocalers like Eve C., Michelle W, Jonah L and so many others!
Once again I had a fabulous time, topped off with yummy snacks at Lost Weekend (my fav bar ever). Had the Rabbit this time instead of the Philly — good but think I’ll save my calories and salt intake for the Philly again next time.
The best part about the crawl, other than the great company, is the consistently cheap drinks — who doesn’t love that? Lets do it again this year… or sooner!!!

Big thanks to Eve for setting this up — I missed 1.0, so this one was pretty well ensconced in my calendar. As expected, we had a great turnout and a lot of fun on the South Beach dive bar circuit. I’ll save the descriptions and opinions on the various bars for my forthcoming reviews. Eve was an excellent cowgirl, herding us up and cracking the whip when it was time to move on to the next bar.
It was pretty obvious that Lost Weekend was the favored bar, at least in part because our Unilocal contingent ruled the jukebox, led by Maria, Nate and I. My two fellow music curators made some excellent choices, of course, but I have to say that my favorite part was when we went back to Lost Weekend after we hit the Deuce. We arrived to find some guy feeding the jukebox with utter crap, a lot of late 90s-​early 2000s cock-​metal, these lengthy, grinding dirges that I was just not feeling. The dude was «Killin’ The Vibe,» and *not* via the Ducktails. With some help from Maria and Nate, I went up there and blew him out of the water within a few songs, choosing Joy Division’s «Transmission» as a kind of musical Noah’s Flood, rinsing the bar of its prior musical sins. From there on, Unilocal domination continued until we finally left the bar.
Simply put, Unilocal Miami dominated the night.

I had started to think that these Pub Crawls had gone the way of Z
Cavaricci pants and faux hawks but I was wrong, very wrong This Dive Bar Dash was classic good times The coolest part about it was that every stop came with more and more Crawlers joining the original VFW bucket of Yuengling Pounders I’m a veteran of these things so I should know by know that a laid back start means mayhem at 1a.m.

Lost Weekend and the Alibi has become Unilocal’s version of your favorite Uncle’s house, you know the one that gave you your first nudie mag and where the family always met up for long night of singing, drinking, dancing and a bunch of other things that end with –ing
I know a bunch of us got to the fourth stop, Deuce, i was way to drunk to remember much but Jenny wasn’t feeling it so back to Lost weekend it is
It was great seeing and meeting everyone but I have to give a big THUMBS UP to Eve and Michelle W for a night that I forgot a lot of

What a great time! VFW to pre-​game followed by Deweys then Lost Weekend? it just doesn’t get any better than this. Unfortunately for me I had to dip early (work) but It was nice to finally meet the local Unilocal community. I plan on going Charlie Sheen style next time, clown shoes and everything. BZ.

i was going to be the party pooper that night and just stay home… if not for kristy, rony, and eve getting on my case i would have surely missed the best night out in a while so THANKS GUYS!
i caught up with everybody at lost weekend and walked in to see my fellow Unilocalers already running shit. i am a total jukebox junkie so that’s where you’ll find me hanging out but i was real happy to see maria, nate, and patrick taking full responsibility of the jams.
next we made our way over to dueces where we spent a whole 9 minutes… which was still enough time for me to get caught sneaking out my sams by the bouncer «damn when’d u come back inside?» i just wished we had stayed there another 10 minutes because portishead was coming on soon and i needed my fix!
just in case u don’t understand my addiction:
overall the night was pretty effin awesome and i can’t wait for the next one… did someone say dive bar dash 2.1, 2.3 — call it what u want just make it happen. :D
since the elite events are only 2hrs long and i am usually late… i pretty much ignore any dudes i don’t know and focus my time on saying hello to the ladies. so yeah it was nice to finally meet the boys: nate, brent & tomasz. (wait a minute… what do u mean u went to beach? u graduated «00» as well? hold up, ur the tomasz that played football right? what’s up bro???)
btw, we love u too michelle for being that amzing women that lights up our lives. & yislin cuz you’re a wicked trip!

First and foremost, I must give thanks to all the amazing people who came out to crawl the dive bars of South Beach on Saturday night — if it wasn’t for your awesome presence, Dive Bar Dash 2.0 would not have been the pure epicness that it was.
Honestly, I am truly humbled by the sheer number of people who turned up for the Dash! Unilocalers, Non-​Yelpers, Friends of Friends of Friends, everyone was there! Who knows, we probably even picked up a few stragglers eager to join our ranks along the crawl!
And while we didn’t even make it to our scheduled last stop (Ted’s Hideaway), there’s no doubt that the Dash did its damage to the dive bars of South Beach. Starting at the VFW with it’s dirt-​cheap brews and killer sunset view, strolling by the light of the «Super Moon» over to Dewey’s for the next stop, cabbing/​walking to the other side of the beach to hit up Lost Weekend for some awesome drinks, grub & tunes, and then crawling through the alley to make our presence known at the Deuce, we definitely showed those bars that Unilocalers know how to do a pub crawl!
By group consensus, the plan to return to Lost Weekend to close out the night was hatched. And what a glorious plan it was! If there was ever a «Yelp Miami bar,» I think Lost Weekend would be tops in the polls. I don’t think anyone actually made it down to Ted’s, though I think some Dashers found their way back to Dewey’s for a little karaōke action!
I gotta give it up to everyone for coming out to rock the Beach for Dive Bar Dash 2.0. Unilocal Miami kicks so much ass!

Rarely do sequals live up to their predecessors but in this case Eve really out did herself!
I caught up with my fellow crawlers a bit late but was just in time for the fun at Lost Weekend, whatever happened after that doesn’t matter.
Good times, great friends and memories that only those of who can remember them will cherish… till next time my drunky friends!

The second time was somehow even better than the first. But as the saying goes so many Unilocalers, so much fun.
Eve knows quality and picked out some winning bars. I met the group at Lost Weekend. I’ve had plenty of memorable moments with Unilocalers at Lost Weekend but I think this time the almost total domination of the jukebox made it better than before.
It was also really great to meet lots of Unilocal friends who aren’t necessarily on Unilocal yet but who like and support the events.

I like my bars divey.
I like my beer nice and cold.
I like beats fast and my bass down low.
You know what else I like? Unilocal fricken Miami! I wish I could put you all in my pocket and carry you with me. Add beer, instant pachanga (a word I use meaning more party than party)!

Ummmm, amazing much?! I can’t believe I was a Unilocal bar crawl virgin until Saturday night. All the fun I’ve missed out on!
Eve did a freakin’ outstanding job on this shindig. Because of a hockey game, I had to miss the first couple stops, so by the time we arrived the party was in full swing! But as usual, oh-​so-​friendly Unilocalers welcomed us with open arms. :)
We came in at Deuce — which, while not without its charms, was a little smokey and crowded and we weren’t all feeling it, so we headed to the crawl’s previous stop, Lost Weekend (my fave bar on the beach). There, we drank, caroused and took some fabulous photos. We spent some QT together and loved every minute of it. Miami Unilocalers, how I adore thee.
I can’t WAIT for the next one of these. Bravo Eve! You really rocked it. 10 stars!

Easily the best night out I’ve had in a long time.
I’d never been to the VFW and got a little lost but saw Eve and Michelle W, they led the way. Yislin was already there and we quickly got beer’d up and took a table with a view. The view was everything it was promised to be, absolutely spectacular. Patrick and his giant bottle of water were next, then more random Unilocalers including the second best Unilocaling power couple, George and Jenny.
Dreweys (?) was next, minor jukebox domination and Coors Light.
Lost Weekend was next, on the other side of the beach. I put in my headphones and swagged out to OFWGKTA while I nearly ran over there. Total jukebox domination was going to happen anyways, but as I stepped up to do my thing, some d-​bag said that he still had credits left (he didn’t)and demanded that we don’t play any rap. So of course I had to play Kanye West’s Can’t Tell Me Nothing. I made the rounds and exchanged pleasantries with the Unilocalers who were already there including Paul, Michelle Z, and Nicole. There was lots of music, and drinking, and good times. The night became hazy but I think everything turned out alright. No, I know everything turned out alright.

First and Foremost, thanks to Eve C. for posting this event again this year. It’s a very cool thing to have annual traditions like this pub crawl has become, and judging from the amount of people that showed up for this year’s Dive Bar Dash 2.0, it’d be a good tradition to keep going in coming years as well.
I didn’t get to the beach until about 9:15, I parked in the area of 6^th and Collins so I’d be close Ted’s Hideway which was scheduled to be our final stop, and I walked to Lost Weekend to meet the group there. About 15 minutes after I arrived at Lost weekend and met up with some of the «Kendall Kids» and a few from the beach, the group of pub crawlers started trickling in from their previous stop at Dewey’s.
Since this was supposed to be a St. Patty’s Day themed crawl according to the event posting, I started off with a Guinness, sipped through my green crazy stray that went with the theme. After a few beverages here, the group headed over to Club Deuce. I stopped off at La Sandwicherie on the way to get some carbs to hopefully soak up a bit of the alcohol we’d be taking in on this night, and was later joined by Marcos, Rony and a few others at the sandwich counter. After we finished eating, we went to The Deuce in time to find out that most everyone was moving back to Lost Weekend.
Lost Weekend seemed to be the star of tonight’s crawl. Though no one from our group played pool on this night, a few did try their hand at foosball towards the end of the evening, and the friendly bartenders took good care of everyone and were happy to make more than a few rounds of Irish Car Bombs for a couple groups of Unilocalers as well. In addition, their jukebox was a big hit as a few Unilocalers (mostly Nate and Patrick) played everything from classic hits to some 80’s music to lots of newer tunes for everyone to sing along and dance to.
In all, this was a very fun night, it was great to see so many show up and participate, and to meet a few new peeps as well, including Tomasz, who so many of us have interacted with on the talk threads, but few have met in person.

So I was really wanting my 1,000^th review to be extra extra special.
The more I thought about it this morning what more can I ask for with one of my most favorite thing in the world to do is hang out with my fellow Unilocaler friends.
I have always believed people come into our lives for a reason, and I feel every single one of you give me so much. The greatest people in Miami we have met through Unilocal and I am so very very grateful for this.
Where to begin:
The amazing Eve set up this UYE, we almost did not make it but the more I thought about it, there was no way I was gonna miss this event. Sure, there were a few of my fellow friends that were not there, who I missed very very much, (you know who you are) but wowza Eve I believe knows every single person in Miami Beach. Seriously, people kept pouring in throughout the evening. What an incredible turnout. Goes to show you how much she is adored, and well deserved she is fab !
We started at the VFW, what a cool place, inexpensive, quite comfy, great start to our evening.
Next we strolled over (we were not crawling yet) to Dewey’s, shocked when we walked in because from the outside it does not look like much but quite nice inside. a large bar, juke box, pool table, fun spot.
Our third stop was Lost Weekend, oh how I love thee, more and more friends were there when we arrived. What is not to love about Lost, great friends, great music, gee what a night.
Fourth stop Deuce, it was a bit hard to maneuver here as it was crowded, and filled with so much smoke. Quick drink, chat, then everyone decided to go back to Lost. Our fifth stop was suppose to be Ted’s Hideaway, but for some reason we never made it over there.
Walked back to Lost Weekend, where again so many people, we basically took over Lost. The juke box was constantly played with some great tunes, dancing was happening, and well if you know Unilocaler’s we all know how to have a great time.
Very impressed as it seemed we all kept our drinking respectful and slow. No one was drunk or acting crazy. Well maybe some craziness but all in good fun.
This was a fun filled evening, thank you very much Eve. You put on one heck of an organized great Pub Crawl.
