Bringing the best fried chicken and freshest farm ingredients from Florida and Georgia to the table since 2011, Yardbird has since garnered the praises of the James Beard Foundation as a semi-​finalist for «Best New Restaurant South» and as one of Bön Appétit’s «50 Best New Restaurants» in 2012. Yardbird sticks to the values of tradition, family, and community with a menu of «soul-​nurturing» dishes intended for sharing. A warm, comforting environment lets guests feel relaxed and at home while dining at Yardbird. Southern touches add to the nostalgia, like antique candlestick holders, wildflowers on all the tables, and handmade light fixtures outfitted with Edison bulbs in Mason jars.

History

Established in 2011.

Having grown up in Georgia, 50 Eggs, Inc. founder and CEO John Kunkel wanted to bring the best of the South to the city he now calls home in South Florida: Miami. Kunkel’s upbringing served as the back-​story and inspiration for Yardbird, incorporating his grandmother Llewellyn’s hand-​written recipes that have been handed down through generations. «I consider growing up Southern a privilege, and nothing takes me back to my roots like dishes of the South,» explains Kunkel. Yardbird Southern Table & Bar is Kunkel’s family abode of classic Southern cooking and hospitality.

John Kunkel is Founder/​CEO of 50 Eggs, Inc., a multi-​faceted, full-​service culinary and hospitality firm focused on developing cutting-​edge brands with unparalleled dining experiences. As CEO of one of Restaurant Hospitality Magazine’s «Coolest Multi-​concept Companies in the Land,» John owns and operates the James Beard nominated and award-​winning Yardbird Southern Table & Bar, Khong River House, Swine Southern Table & Bar and Patpong Road, and is also known for creating and developing the fast casual chain Lime Fresh Mexican Grill.
