Specialties

–Speech Therapy: Speech, language, and hearing services are offered in English, Spanish, and Sign Language for monolingual and bilingual hearing or deaf individuals with a variety of communication disorders.

–Occupational therapy: Occupational therapy is offered in English and Spanish to individuals requiring assistance with daily activities, resulting from sensorimotor, self-​help, and postural deficits, including ADD/​ADHD, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, among others.

–Psychological Services: Services include individual and group psychotherapy, psychological evaluations, and couples’ therapy in both English and Spanish. Therapy is rendered to persons of all ages, with a large focus on the elderly.

–Deaf Literacy: Our Deaf Family Literacy Academy teaches families with deaf children American Sign Language (ASL) and instructs the families in how to read books in ASL to their deaf children.

History

Established in 2003.

The Alfano Center was founded in 2003 in Coral Gables. Its mission has been to provide speech, language, and hearing services, occupational therapy services, and psychological services for individuals with communication and physical challenges in order to enhance their abilities at home, at school, at work, and at play.

Meet the Business Owner

Business Owner

Dr. Alfano is a Miami native, born to Cuban parents. She earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from The Florida State University and her Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Miami. She is also an Adjunct Professor at Florida International University where she teaches students in the Communication Science and Disorders Department She has worked as a bilingual speech-​language pathologist in a variety of settings that include a pediatric hospital, private practice, and the Miami-​Dade County Public School System. Her research foci include culture and communication issues in Hispanic-​Deaf families, the speech and language development of bilingual children with cochlear implants, and on bimodal testing with the deaf.
