Bistro BE

A friend invited me to Bistro BE a few months ago and we absolutely loved it-​everything from the food to the service & atmosphere was absolutely impeccable… but then we left for the summer. Today, back in town, my daughter was going to lunch with a friend so I suggested she try it and I was so disappointed to learn it had permanently closed. I know Miami is a tough place, but this restaurant just needed to get known… nobody knew they were there. Such a shame. Worse yet, when my daughter called to tell me, I sent her to Moyé the other best restaurant of it’s type in the Brickell area & it, too had permanently closed. Such a shame.
PS we put a Daniel Boulud restaurant in one of our hotels, so I really appreciate excellent restaurants.

The beer selection is my favorite in Brickell. They have a ton of quality Belgian brews I hadn’t tried before and their happy hour is awesome, really reasonable, check out their fries/​frites during happy hour, freshly thick cut in the kitchen they go great with a cold Delirium. I’ve had dinner here as well, the servers are all very nice, and the food was very tasty, I got the sausage dish, and my friend got French onion soup, although I will say it was a little pricy. Haven’t tried brunch there yet but looking forward to it. This place is tucked away in a little cozy spot in Brickell, count yourself lucky if you discover it, especially during happy hour!

Always a gourmet experience at Bistro, their food is a wonderful alternative to the minimal normal-​priced variety in Brickell. Love the Mac & Cheese dishes, and if u haven’t had a Belgian waffle from here, you’re doing yourself an injustice! Don’t get me started on the beer list either, I could sip on that list all day.

Had a reservation for two on a saturday night, the place was almost empty. Usually that is a bad sign.
The waiter was great, 5 stars for him, treated us nicely and very fast.
Beer selection is very very good
This is a Belgian restaurant so we ordered mussels and a steak tartar.
Mussels were flavourless, nice consistency but no flavour at all really a dissapointment.
The fries were not even good, they were OK
Then as for the steak tartar I was expecting at least an steak americain, but the tartar steak was awful, the meat, the flavour, the consistency of the meat, really bad.
The place was nice, service was great, the music didnt go with the concept of the restaurant, and the food is a NO NO

This would have been a 5 star review if they had not changed their brunch and the staff, not my favorite brunch spot anymore.

One other review said this place is a hidden gem and I totally agree. Their beer selection is awesome, especially if you like Belgian beer. And you can’t beat their happy hour (4 – 7 everyday). The food is also delicious making this place very worth a visit.

This is supposed to be a Belgian inspired restaurant, but I don’t really know why. The food is very good but not like any Belgian food I’ve had in that lovely country. They use Belgian names for recipts a bit but that’s all.
We had the asparagus soup which had potatoes, hower very strong asparagus taste. It was thin and not made with heavy cream, but that’s OK because it was so good. Now came the BEEF STEW served with FRENCH FRIES and yummy cole slaw, but I was really expecting a Carbonnade, which I make all the time, however this stew was pleantiful and tasty, but quite American almost. Their Codfish was flaky and had great flavor, but why put it on a mound of mashed potatos with shrimp (no flavor natch). Good, fresh, wild Cod is such a treat it should be done the way they do it in Bruges with North Sea Cod. This tasted like some silly thing from Liege or something influenced buy the Food Channel or one of Gordon Ramsey’s students. It was a nice try, but too busy. Leave the Cod alone and why put a sort of zabaione in it?
Classical Zabaione uses raw egg yolks, but today many may prefer to cook the custard in a bain-​marie. It can be finished with beaten egg white (meringue) or sometimes by whipped cream. I cook it as a desert with marsalla and an anise cookie and serve it in an old fashioned deep champagne glass.
Well, desert was a molleneux which is not Belgian. The United States-​based chef Jean-​Georges Vongerichten claims to have invented molten chocolate cake in New York City in 1987, but the French chef and chocolatier Jacques Torres has disputed that claim, arguing that such a dish already existed in France. According to Vongerichten, he pulled a chocolate sponge cake from the oven before it was done and found that the center was still runny, but was warm and had both a good taste and a good texture. Regardless of who invented the dish, Vongerichten has been credited with popularizing it in the United States, and it is now almost a de rigueur inclusion on high-​end restaurant dessert menus. They called the lava cake a molleneux which is OK I guess. It was delicious and the excellent server put a bit of framboise on it as I asked him.
I love the décor and the sound level. Sadly there is a nasty tv blasting no sound (so why screw up your décor with an ugggly 55″ screen right over the beautiful bar?
I don’t know who is responsible for this restaurant, but I like it and the building is nice; it’s an Arquitectonica event (international architecture, landscape architecture, interior design and urban planning corporation.)
I’ll be going back for sure; if for no other erason just to sit at their beautiful bar and drink Belgian beer and eat pomme frites.

It has everything you want. Atmosphere, great food, and great service. Everything from the onion soup, duck, cod, mussels. Can’t go wrong with any of those. Not sure how this isn’t more popular. We shall be back.

I came here on a whim my first night ever in Miami and went back two more times during my stay.
The Belgian beer selection is incredible and I suggest you try all of them at least once. I tried the frites, blood sausage, and duck over the course of my visits. All were excellent.
I have to give a special shoutout to my bro Denis. He was part of the reason I kept coming back. He was a source of awesome conversation every time. Don’t tell him I said any of that, though. Tell him I said he’s a jerk.

Besides the beautiful place the chef pedro is amazing, food orgasm 1000% delicious even if hi is young i recommend you miami to visit this place and try his food (10 stars)

An EXTREMELY Belgian experience. Huge selection of beer/​wine (no liquor as far as I could tell) and legit Belgian food only. If you’re lactose intolerant, good luck. Everything is swimming in cream and beer and deliciousness. Place is adorable with a NYC café ambiance; service exceptional and a cool open kitchen. Get the sayabon (sp?) dessert (tastes like a root beer float) and the mussels/​fries.

Tried out the brunch and will definitely be going many more times to come! They have about 6 different types of Belgian waffles. You can get them Brussels style with the caramelized sugar and then also with flavoring mixed in. We got the Brussels with apple and the Brussels with potato and chives. Both were absolutely delicious. We also had them both Benedict style, one with smoked salmon and white asparagus and then the other just with bacon.
As always, service was impeccable and their bread fantastic. We will be adding this to our rotating brunch staple!
I really don’t understand why this place isn’t as packed as Balan’s or OTC at brunch time. It’s even more delicious! Also I don’t think the $$$ is accurate. It’s more like $$. You can just get a plain waffle for $ 5 and sandwiches/Benedict’s with waffles start around $ 10.

This gem is on an off-​street in Brickell. It’s a damn shame since it’s so frigging good. They live up to their 100% Belgian tagline. You won’t find anything but quality Belgian beer and food in this place. When visiting, make sure you nibble on some curryworst (not sure if I spelled that right) as well as the stews. The frites are amazing, too (as expected).
Max is a great bartender and knows beer like the back of his hand. Ask him for a recommendation and he’ll hook you up with some great pints.

I visited the Bistro BE with my partner and some friends we had an outstanding time, service was great, the food was delicious we ordered several different Belgium meals including a vegetarian option, not to mention a huge selection of Belgium beers and wines! This restaurant is defiantly one I’ll be coming back to next time I’m in Miami!

Having grown up in Belgium, I was excited to hear this restaurant opened in Miami. There are tons of Belgian restaurants in New York and Miami really needed one. I took my mom and her friend who were visiting from Belgium at the time.
The interior is great. Modern but still warm and nice. One of the things I miss most from Belgium is the «curryworst» or «frikandel» as we call it over there. When I saw this on the menu I immediately ordered it. In Belgium, its a mass produced fast-​food item, but it doesn’t exist here. I knew I wouldn’t be getting the original product, it was their home-​made version, and it did taste very similar! Not exactly like the real thing but it will hold me over between trips home.
The fries were amazing. They tasted exactly like how they do in Belgium and came with homemade mayo. Excellent. I had the mosselen natuur as my main course– served exactly like in belgium in a huge, covered pot and the broth/​sauce they were in was just like in Belgium.
Huge selection of beers as well, each served in their own brand-​specific glass. The owner and chef are Belgian, the waiters are not but are very knowledgable and courteous. One of the co-​owners told us that they were planning on serving Brunch by mid-​October. Great experience and I am excited to return and try more of the menu items!

This authentic Belgium restaurant is unsurpassed as a bistro. The entrées are without comparison in Miami. They stock a huge selection of wines and beer, especially beers from Belgium. I took the suggestion of server extraordinaire, LUKE and ordered the Straffe Hendrik dark (11%) and it was a delight equivalent to a Bombay Sapphire Martini.
I highly recommend this Bistro BE at 1111 NW First Street in Brickell. Ask for Luke. He’s one in a million!

Food was great, service slow and apparently ill. So let’s start with the fact that the food was delicious when it finally arrived.
What the server brought over described as an «amuse» was more like a appetizer salad in a triple shot glass. Once poured onto my bread plate, the dill mayonnaise vinaigrette seafood concoction with well-​dressed greens was absolutely delicious and a great precursor to the main event.
We shared a Belgian waffle stuffed with dill and mussels and prepared with a seafood spread — it was just okay. Waffle didn’t have enough crunch. Seafood spread was yummy though– replace the waffles with toasted baguettes and you’ve got a winner!
My favorite dish was by far the steak tartare which came with a very generous portion of thick cut fries and a mixed green salad with shallots and radish dressed in a (sherry?) vinaigrette. Pretty to look at and very tasty! Capers mixed into the tartare added a prefect amount of brine.
Hubby threw back almost 2 servings of mussels — Wednesdays you get the fantastic deal of endless mussels, with a Stella and fries for $ 22!?! Steal of a deal when the server remembers to take the Stella off your tab, but I digress. The mussels were delicious– heavy on the celery, but maybe that’s a Belgian thing? Having only had mussels in French bistros and at home, I’m not sure. We usually go heavy on butter and wine… in mussels and life in general.
Now to the not-​so-​great — the service was polite, but sometimes apologies need to be made when there are delays and mistakes. Just acknowledge there is a problem before I need to point it out to you. Take accountability. Waiting long periods of time for food can be expected with a new restaurant when there is an unexpected surge of customers. We are accustomed to this and smiled politely waiting for our food, though in our minds the polite new restaurant courtesy threshold had clearly been passed. It was a bit appalling that the reason the wine was taking so long was that the bartender was «ill.» Though I don’t doubt the claim, a simple apology and a reassurance that «it’d be right out,» would’ve sufficed. Maybe even comping an order of fries or the glass of wine itself could’ve assuaged the situation. Instead, for the remainder of my meal my eyes were fixed on the bartender trying to webmd him through xray vision I do not have. When the server came back (without my wine) 5 minutes later I asked if the bartender was contagious to which she replied that he just had a fever, and that if he was contagious he wouldn’t be allowed to work. Thanks for that… Now I know that he has been seen by a medical professional who has assessed him as not contagious, unable to pour wine, but very capable of talking on his cell phone out front of the restaurant while drinking colas. Perhaps this also affected his ability to pour a full glass of beer as our first round came out half full.
Aside from the clearly improper training from which the staff suffered, there were issues with expediting food, which seems to be an ongoing issue in new Miami joints. I will continue to let this slide as a growing pain.
If this were food-​based alone there’d be an extra star in this review. I hope they can work out the kinks and keep making good food with good beer!

I’ve been to this place 4 times now and have ordered a different dish each time, complete with appetizers and entrees. Every subsequent time I eat here I have to force myself to order something new because the food has been so good that I want it again, I just want to try other things as well.
So far, I recommend any of the mussel pots (yes, there will be your occasional closed mussel but oh well. It happens), meatballs are good, steak frites is excellent, sausage is also great.
Selection of beer leaves nothing to be desired. It’s nothing short of exceptional.
Atmosphere is very pleasant and A/​C situation appears to have been corrected.
Service is absolutely fantastic. Staff and manager are extraordinarily friendly, my food always comes out in a timely manner, sometimes faster than I expect it to. I’ve noticed in other reviews that people are complaining about food taking an hour and a half. I’ve worked in the service industry and I know what that means. It means that the food took 30 seconds longer than a patron wanted it to. If you want your food in under 15 minutes there is a 24 hour Burger King about 4 blocks from BE. I’m sure that anyone is welcome to play 5 star food critic there.
Never had dessert here. This is likely a consequence of stuffing my fat face to unprecedented levels.
On a side note, I know this isn’t a platform for grammar lessons but just a couple pointers for some of the other reviewers:
1. If you insist on utilizing obnoxious ironic quotation marks, learn how to properly use them.
2. Never in the history of the English language has the word «inexperienced» been spelled with a hyphen.
3. Not necessarily a grammar tip but referencing pepper as a way to stop the soviet army makes no sense and it’s not funny. It’s stupid.
Finally, lest it be assumed that I must be a friend of the owner, I’m not. I don’t know who the owner is and have never even seen anyone there who might be the owner.

Not special and not a good deal for the money. Food was not bad, but not great either. Also, there was a sign outside that said «Stella $ 3“but they are actually $ 6. 3 is the HH price, but that’s not on the sign.
Once was enough

I’m giving this place 4 stars for their beer selection and service. Food was hit or miss the mussels were not that good some weren’t even open, I enjoyed the meatballs and the duck. Dessert was just ok nothing to write about.
