China Wok Take-Out, Chifa

After the chifa on 88 and 127 close, I have been waiting for something awesome to come out !!! My parents die for this place, I can’t wait to try it

Derelict walls, stained window curtains, grease everywhere, old paintings and old banners, a commercial fridge with no light, boxes of product behind the counter, oversized plastic picnic tables, empty bottles of soy sauce, and the typical Chinese calendar proudly displayed as the focus point of the room, simply the perfect definition for a hole on the wall. Outside, a sign that reads China Wok Take-​Out Chifa, with emphasis on Take-​Out, as if trying to remind you that you need to take your food with you, maybe even warning you… but if you didn’t know, China Wok Take-​Out Chifa has been there for over fifteen years, serving Chifa (Peruvian/​Chinese food) as well as regular American/​Chinese food. I have been there many years ago, but being somewhat in the middle of nowhere, I almost forgot about them. I always wondered if they were still open for business, and if it wasn’t for a couple of recent reviews, I wouldn’t have stopped by.
So, on a late night, I decided to drop by. I specially like the fact that they stay open «late», at least by Miami standards. I arrived and ordered a chicken broth with ginger (kion), and a chijau kay chicken. I wasn’t taking out, so I told the lady behind the counter I was sitting down to eat.
While I sat down, waiting, some Peruvian people stopped by, all getting their take out. I was clearly going against the grain, but that’s just me. In between customers, things were quiet, really quiet. The lady behind the counter was in and out of the kitchen, mostly in the kitchen, only showing her face if the door bell rang or if the phone rang. This take out joint is truly and simply an exercise in meditation and quietness. OM…
I got my soup. It was awesome, great flavor, fresh, light, and lots of ginger (kion). Then the chicken chijau kay came out. It smelled delicious. Chicken chijau kay is like a breaded chicken steak, but they use leg and thigh meat (dark meat), so it is moist and tasty although a bit chewy at times. It is fried and topped with a special sauce. It is an umami rich dish, and one of my favorites when it comes to Chifa.
Based on these two dishes, I was very happy with the food. I think that it’s been a while since I’ve had a really good chijau kay. I told the lady I really liked the food, and she told me the specialty of the house is Kam lu wantan, which is fried wontons topped with pork, pineapple and other veggies all in a tamarind sauce. On subsequent visits I’ve had Kam lu wantan, pollo con tausi, fried rice, wonton soup. It is all been really good.
Even though I really liked the food, I couldn’t get over the hole on the wall vibe. The floors and the windows were clean, but there was no restroom, things were rundown, and it kind of felt like I shouldn’t be there. I had initially rated this place four stars, but being that the other Peruvian/​Chinese joints are on a downturn, this is the one that deserves the five stars.
China Wok Take-​Out Chifa also sells Peruvian sodas and drinks, and some desserts. There is a normal American/​Chinese food menu, but you want to order from the Chifa menu (there is a picture available under this listing).
And remember to follow the instructions: T.A.K.E O.U.T.

This place has the best Chinese/​Peruvian food (Chifa). I have been to ‘Chifas’ in Peru and this one is still my favorite. It is family owned; the couple cooks and their son and daughter help them with customers and phone calls.
The place is really small; it only has 4 tables, but I think most customers order take-​out.
It’s been around 10 years since the first time I tried their food. I have ordered most of their menu, and my favorites are: Taypa, Kam Lu Wonton, Chijaukay, Special Fried Rice, Special Wonton Soup, pollo enrollado con esparragos en salsa de ostion (chicken roll-​ups with asparagus and oyster souce), and siu mai, (it’s not on the menu, but they can make it if you request it).
Give it a chance and try this place out, but don’t expected great ambiance or décor, just go to enjoy their awesome food.

This has been one of the best Peruvian /​Chinese food places I have ever been in. A must try!

Wow. Just wow!
Even though Peruvian cuisine has pretty much taken over the entire city, there’s always been a lack of authentic and good Chifas out there.
That is until I found China Wok Chifa. Seek no further than this little hole in the wall my fellow Unilocalers.
In one of many unassuming strip malls in Tamiami (or all of Miami of that matter) lies a tiny little gem cooking up the best Chifa (aka Chinese-​Peruvian) fusion I’ve had so far in my 20 years living here. It’s easy to miss and isn’t necessarily enticing from the outside, but I promise you– it is so worth giving it a shot.
For those of you who don’t know Chifa, this isn’t some sort of novelty. It’s a type of cuisine that’s been around forever in Peru given our massive Chinese immigrant population. The beauty of Peruvian food is how it’s adapted to every culture that’s ever graced us with its flavors. We have Chifa, Nikkei (japanese-​peruvian), Italo-​peruvian, criollo, Andina, and that’s just to name a few. Ever had a lomo saltado at a peruvian restaurant? Congratulations, you’ve officially tried a chinese-​peruvian inspired dish but it’s not Chifa exactly. Curious, isn’t it?
Now that I’ve enlightened you a bit, back to the restaurant.
I didn’t even bother going through the traditional Chinese food menu. Not even interested. I’m sure it’s probably tasty, but I came here for the good stuff. The Chifa.
On order, Kam Lu Wantan, Pollo chi jau Kay and a small special arroz Chaufa (special fried rice). I would normally order inka kolas to wash it down but I already had plenty at home.
Bill came out to $ 32 or so. Well priced for specialty dishes. The young man who rang me up was incredibly polite and mature for his very young age (I’m guessing maybe 16?). Definitely added to the experience and made it all the more pleasant.
Kam Lu Wantan — spectacular. Giant chunks of pineapple. All the meats– chicken, pork, shrimp. All tender and cooked beautifully. Wantons are placed in a separate bag so they don’t get soggy.
Pollo Chi Jau Kay — so tender yet breaded to perfection and soooo juicy! Sauce placed in a separate container so it doesn’t smother the chicken. I appreciate these touches.
Arroz Chaufa especial — smoky nice wok flavors. Nice chunks of fried egg and meats/​shrimp
They also added extra white rice and made sure to ask me if it was enough before I left.
This is about 6 miles from my house and I wish it hadn’t taken me three years since moving to Kendall to check it out. It is absolutely delicious and a nice reminder of my beautiful country of Peru.

This place has the best Chinese food I’ve tried. I was skeptical about trying because of how it looks, but I was really impressed.
Everyone who works here is incredibly nice. It’s family owned. The prices are great for what you’re getting. Super large portions for a low price.
I highly recommend the chifa and lo mein.
