RIP Museum of science and 40 year old star projecting whirlymabob. I’ll cherish those memories of my time here as a kid, even more so the recent memories as a kidult (adult kid). I really look forward to meeting your larger, fancier and far more technologically advanced super reincarnation.

By the time I write this the museum will be officially closed and the new one on Downtown will be the future museum. As a local I loved this place. It was small and not very attractive to outsiders but to me this place was very special. Especially the people who worked there made it incredibly special. I loved the planetarium shows, they were informative and great fun, especially and their evening laser shows were a blast to go to. I thank the Museum/​Planetarium for the month of August (2015) with all their events to help the locals say good bye to this place. I’m sorry that it seems like Viscaya is going to turn it into a parking lot and all that will be left of this place are pictures and memories. Thanks for the memories.

Everytime I visit there is something new here. Today, August 2015, was the last day this location was opened so keep an eye out for the new location July 2016 in downtown Miami.

I’m glad that our visit was part of our South Florida Adventure Pass, as I would not have been happy to pay $ 14.95 for what is there. Perhaps its because they are closing /​moving at the end of the month, I sure hope so.
Many of the displays didn’t work. The only thing we really enjoyed was the Planetarium show. We planned a day to explore and were only there about 1 ½ hours.

I went to the last weekend of the laser light shows over at the planetarium. I didn’t come early enough so I was out of luck on buying a ticket at the counter. Graciously enough I was blessed with finding a group of people with 4 extra tickets for sale. That turned out perfect for me and my party. I stood in the line for the Doors show which I had seen years ago multiple times. When I entered I noticed that it was steaming hot in there. Like, an uncomfortable sweaty humid hot. That wasn’t at all what I remembered from the past. It always used to be a nice comfortable temperature inside the Planetarium. I don’t know, maybe it was the combined body heat coming from multitudes of people that showed up for the last weekend of the shows before the museum ultimately closes its doors for good. The show was absoulutely different than I remember. There where no picture images being shown in conjunction with the tirade of squiggly blurry lines coming from the lasers so therefore the only thing to look at where the squiggly lines and thats it. When I was younger the show was 10 times better. They would show images of the bands and trippy pictures all over the auditorium in conjunction with the lasers. That’s what used to make the show complete! That’s what had your senses in a daze as they forced you to deal with the unexpected wierd onslaught of pictures and images behind and around the lasers. They had none of that. I was so disappointed. One thing I can say is that their sound system was always on point. Super clear and crisp. No complaints there. So all and all, I was glad to attend the last of the one of the laser shows. It brought back lots of memories from my youth. I am sad that the Planetarium and the Museum is going away but evidently the laser show wasn’t what it used to be anyways so it makes the the theatres farewell a little less painful for me, Lol… I hope that the new Museum of Science would live up to and surpass the epic greatness and longevity that this location had attained in it years of operation.

My family was so disappointed with this museum. We contemplated asking for a refund. It was that bad. From my understanding, there was supposed to be different experiments you could do, and staff around to help you and educate you on the different things. The few times we did see any staff members, they were talking to each other and not paying any attention to the visitors. Everything seemed very outdated. There were not adequate signs up offering any educational notes or anything. We thought that the fish part would be fun for our daughter, but it wasn’t. There was a worker and volunteer around, but they weren’t doing much. Everything looked not well taken care of, especially when you went outside to where they held the birds. It was actually sad. I felt bad for the condition they were in. We learned absolutely nothing, and did not have fun. I would never return to this place.

Old and antiquated building. It definitely needs an update Asap. Some of the displays were fun and entertaining however. Admission price is not bad.

I went here on a Saturday morning and this is certainly a good science museum and pretty educational, though I was sort of surprised that it wasn’t more crowded. In 2016, the Patricia & Philip Frost Museum of Science will be opening their new location right around the heart of Downtown Miami, along the shore at Interstate 395 (MacArthur Causeway), so I can’t wait to see what things look like when visiting the area in the near future.
Their planetarium shows were quite engaging and sometimes funny! A wildlife center is also available in the outdoor exhibits area. Exhibits on hurricanes and hands-​on interactive science exhibits were awesome as well.

This place is small and lacking in real science. It is also neglected. There is no cafeteria or restaurants in the vicinity, and your only food options are vending machines located outside in the searing heat. Perhaps the science experiment was to try to grow salmonella.
Worst of all, the wildlife center houses some magnificent birds of prey (including a bald eagle) which are tethered to a tree. Eagles are people too, you know. Haha. I’m no animal activist, but it still seems pretty cruel to me. Go to the Ft. Lauderdale Museum of Discovery and Science instead — it is much better.

This Science museum had various exhibits ranging from A laser light show in the planetarium to snake exhibits. The day of my visit it was «Reptile Day». They brought deadly snakes and there were various shows showcasing various other reptiles. An interesting exhibit was «Eat Like a Reptile» where they served Crickets, meal worms, and chocolate chip cookies with crickets! Of course I wanted to try it as I’m not sure when else I would have this experience and it wasn’t that bad lol. It’s a pretty small Science Museum but is a great way spot to stop on a lazy afternoon! The prices weren’t too bad and there’s definitely something for everyone here.

What an amazing place to spend the day! There is a free planetarium show, animal encounter, touch tanks, and more! My friend played with the exhibits as much as I did! He especially enjoyed the electricity exhibits and the physics ones.

Just horrible! Save your $ 18 and go somewhere else… The planetarium was abysmal. I have never been so disappointed.

My family and I love doing outings. And we had bought a yearly pass to the museum of discovery and science, in Fort Lauderdale Florida. Well we come to find out that we get 50% off on all nationwide associated museums. And so we decided to go to the museum in Miami. Omg I loved loved loved it instead of $ 14 it was seven bucks so cool. And it’s really nice small, but nice. you have so much to do. The kids loved it. And my two-​year-​old love it too. So happy we went.

I went to see their laser show last weekend, I think they do it every first weekend of the month, we had a very good experience overall. It’s a fun thing to do on a weekend.
The laser show admission price is very fair. It’s inside the planetarium, there are a lot of unnumbered seats so you can choose your own seat or you can even sit on the floor if you prefer it. The museum staff is very organized and helpful.
I went to see the Pink Floyd show and liked it. It lasts about one hour. The sound is excellent, and this is a very important issue in this type of show. The museum gives you discardable glasses that have a kaleidoscope effect, make you see everything in different colors and patterns, so once the show starts… amazing!
I give a four star rating because of the air conditioning. Maybe it was malfunctioning or maybe the set it at a high temperature, but it felt really hot inside, and that fact damaged the whole experience.
But, overall, very good experience. recommended!

I think the problem is that I was raised in mid-​MO and went to the prolific St. Louis Science Center every summer of my childhood.
This place is solid – I especially enjoyed their heart health exhibit, despite myself – but I felt this place was out of date and could really use a facelift.

Dreary, outdated, not worth the (free) price of admission.
I learned this year of a program through the Miami library system that allows residents to «check out» a family pass for 4 to several Miami attractions, including Vizcaya, Deering Estate, Fairchild gardens and the Zoo (the best of the bunch, IMO), and this museum, which was worth checking out for free, or so I thought.
The museum website shows plans for a grand new building, to which I would ask: will any of the funds be spent on the contents? As it stands, the building is full of a mish-​mash of the uninteresting. The reptile section is comparable to a local pet store (which have fish and birds in addition to the small collection of snakes found here), except that a pet store is clean and well lit.
The positive reviews here seem to be from nostalgic locals (of which I am not), or those attending an event or laser show here — which is not really an opinion of the museum itself. I suspect a couple of reviews as coming from employees or board members, because anyone who thinks this warrants 5-​stars was either (i) raised in Schrodinger’s box, or (ii) some misguided attempt to keep the place in business, which only does a disservice to future attendees.
If you have to go to a science museum, try the museum of discovery and science (MODS) in Fort Lauderdale (which even still rates about a «3» and not more). At least there you will see some dinosaur bones and be able to see an IMAX film on a huge screen if you get bored (ps: you most assuredly will).
Better still, persuade one of the countless Miami millionaires to fund a proper museum, stocked with exhibits dating post-​2000, not circa 1980.

I will always have a special place in my heart for the Miami Museum of Science. I went last weekend with my 3 year old niece and recognized several exhibits that have been there for years. Remember the large bear? He’s still there.
I know the Museum is small but it is a great way to spend 2 or 3 hours on the weekend and you might actually learn something in the process. One of the «Energy» exhibits that we and several others enjoyed was a large dance floor that lights up when you dance. You can connect your iphone to the exhibit and play your own music. There are several other rooms like a small library and puppet theater. We discovered these on our own by exploring on our own.
As for the price, if you have a Bank of America Card you can show it for free entrance on certain weekends. You can’t beat free.

This review is mostly for the LASER SHOWS, although I went to the museum a few years ago and wasn’t particularly impressed.
The boyfriend and I decided to see the Sgt. Pepper & The Lonely Hearts Club Band laser show slated to start at 9 PM. When we arrived early around 8:15 to get our tickets ($ 8 each per show), there was a significant amount of people waiting for a free show that was supposed to start at 8:30. (Both shows were a bit late.) The attendants said we could watch the free show as well, but we would have to get back at the end of the line for the Sgt. Pepper show afterwards. No thanks.
We each got a pair of cardboard spectrum glasses to wear during the show. The ‘lasers’ looked like they were made on a multi-​colored etch-​a-​sketch, or maybe MS Paint circa 1990. The sound wasn’t so great, either — I don’t think I heard any bass. The theater is ok, if you don’t mind half the occupants talking the whole time and getting your seat kicked. I probably would have been more impressed if I was high. And with the next shows being Pink Floyd and Bob Marley, come on. It’s like they’re begging people to get baked before they watch these things.

Certainly not me! When I attended a friend’s 40^th birthday celebration I was not sure what to find. Arrived and parked without a problem and breezed right into the «venue». The museum had been transformed into an unrecognizable party locale! Museum lights off, party lights on, DJ blaring and the scene was set for an unforgettable night.
The entrance foyer was the cocktail area with high top tables and hors d’oeuvres were being passed around. The back left side had been set up with tables and a dessert table. They had set up a screen with an appropriate slide show that had the usual photos you would expect at someone’s 40^th birthday party.
At some point we were ushered into the theatre. No, we did not see a laser light show (but you can get lots of info on that on their website. Ahhhh college memories). Instead, some of our friends put on a roast for the birthday boy. It rocked! Once that was done it was back to the museum foyer for dancing.
Now I know what a great place this is to hold an event! It was certainly news to me.

Oh my goodness, the laser light shows are awesome! Went on Friday for a back-​to-​back twofer of the Best of Pink Floyd as well as Led Zeppelin. It was amazing. I had last been to a laser show about 10 years ago, so it was somewhat nostalgic. It was loads of fun, and even made me forget about dinner. It was cool to see people of all age groups (teens, moms, grandmas) in line to listen to some good music, and it was surprising to see some very chic, snobby clubgoing types standing in line with their 5 inch stilettos, perfectly coiffed hair, and makeup waiting to listen to Pink Floyd, because they looked more like the Britney Spears types than rocker chicks. I would love to go again but it’s hard to find people who can stand watching hours of bright lights without having an epileptic attack, being bored, or tiring their eyes.
Some drawbacks: Since they cut down the laser shows to once a month, the lines now are HUGE. I don’t know why they decided to do this or who the genius was behind the idea, considering there’s obviously a demand for the shows. I had tried coming about 3 months ago but the line was at least an hour’s wait (people were spilling on to the street) and since the show was starting in less than 30 minutes, it was impossible and had to drive myself back home. They should increase the frequency of the shows to avoid this. I also think they should add more bands, and maybe more songs, because they play all the songs that everyone knows from the radio etc. (the «popular» songs), while some of us like more variety and the more rare/​obscure songs that never get play time on the radio.

Maybe I’m spoiled because I grew up going to museums in NYC. I guess I was expecting a lot more just reading about this place online. Sounded really cool but was so disappointed. We went on the a Saturday when they have the free entrance to Bank of America members. My boyfriend and I got in for free but they charged $ 11 for our son. (other museums didn’t charge my son on Bank of America days)
The place is so small, you can walk the whole place in about 15 minutes. A lot of the displays were cheap plastic models on the wall. I thought museums were suppose to display real things. There were animals tied up outside. The birds were tied down so that they were stuck in one position. I really felt bad for the birds.
We sat in on a dinosaur presentation which was pretty interesting. I didn’t get to see the planetarium show. Will have to go back.
