The Annex

Super cool place! Very chill relaxed atmosphere. No pressure to hurry and eat, great outdoor setting, definitely apocalypse restaurant /​bar and although I’m not sure if they actually cook everything there or at the restaurant next door, everyone seems to be really enjoying themselves while there.
They also have a full service bar and a craft beer bar so everyone’s preference can be accommodated.

I love the atmosphere here and the food could be great if it did not arrive cold. Pair that up with watered down expensive drinks and messy uninformed service, as well as a live DJ blasting loud music nobody wanted to listen to, this place will not survive with this kind of track record even though I want it to.

Ordered apps and bottles of vino with the girls– sat on the patio which featured quirky décor and gravel– with a jazz singer and dj creating good vibes on a Thursday night. Id come back during a weekend– there is definitely space for a crowd and the aps were substantial and delicious– charcuterie platter, pizza, burgers, etc. Various metered street parking, lots of nearby shops and restaurants, parks.

Just enjoyed a wonderful breakfast. Poached eggs on a layer of yogurt. Drizzled with chili oil and chimichurri. Great recipe. Executed well. Attentive service.

on a chill weekday evening, we venture down to the annex and enjoy ourselves much more than expected, secondary to the ambiance, the jazzy music followed by DJ, the food and wine list, blueberry and brie toast was legit, pizza and burgers shared by our table was on point as well, the waiter was hot and on point. granted it wasn’t pack whatsoever so i cannot comment whether or not service can be weekend wise. I’d come back here no diggity no doubt uh!

Loved it. It feels like you’re at a carnival, and definitely separate from the Wynwood environment. It’s secluded, often has live music, and good deals. I came on Friday with friends and they had a half off pitchers and half off pizza deal. My friend and I shared The Annex pizza which has bacon and egg on it. Coming from New Jersey, he and I will basically try and put a breakfast sandwich on anything, and no surprise, it was a delicious and messy concoction.
There wasn’t a large line at the door, but it was still crowded. With plenty of outdoor seating, different groups of people are able to mingle without feeling congested. The colorful lighting provides an intimate glow for small groups or dates to gather at. They have events here pretty frequently so check out their website to see what’s coming up. I would definitely come back again, and it’s a good place to go for a light dinner or pre-​club drinks. It’s near several rowdier venues so if you start here and then head somewhere in midtown or South Beach, you’ll have a great mix of environments.

I was here tonight for Come to Elysium. Otherwise, I would never even have been here. There is a separate Unilocal for the gentlemen of @theVolksmusik. Those are the DJs for which I was here for, for said venue.
Now, let’s discuss The Annex; shall we? I’m almost tempted to write two different Unilocal,this one for five stars and another with, «zero no stars if I could.» Because quite frankly, and please excuse my English, I’m from Hialeah and don’t speak it «good,» them giggly chicks running the bar suck.
I understand you were busy. Not packed to the gills «busy,» but, busy. I also understand you only have one bar. A bar with just enough bartenders behind it to keep everyone there fluidly content. But, when you’re someone that has been standing there for a while, and not approached by any of them to see what I wanted to drink, Houston, tenemos un problemation.
I’m going to go ahead and not write a sarcastic remark about how they possibly missed me. Them miss me, an obvious new customer from another distant land we shall call Hialeah, dressed in a «Spacesuit.» I shan’t do it. Really I shan’t.
Had it not been for the saving grace of one of the servers here, possibly he noticed my angst as I started to change colors under a «Spacesuit» begging for any liquid? I don’t know really. Whatever really. Had it not been for this young man, this Unilocal would have a different tone.
At one point, I was approached by one of the bartenders and served a drink but, too wittle to wait. After that one fairly long lapsed time, this young man saved the day. I never went back to the bar.
So here I am at The Annex. I knew exactly where I was standing. Father had his business walking distance from here. As a local, born and raised, I am very appreciative of whoever it is that thought of this. This area used to be very different. This particular spot, specifically. But, that’s all I’m allowed to say.
It is gorgeous and very much underappreciated. In my opinion, of course.
Lots and I mean LOTS of seating is provided. A bit communal at times, but you «should» be able to find a spot to park yourself, sooner or later.
It’s an open air place but, this night being the first day of «Fall,» it wasn’t that bad. It was totally tolerable. Plus, they have added this brilliant high-​tech large cooling device that kept us from killing each other under their «circus-​like» tent.
So finally, I’m getting service from said young man. From that moment onward, I was in need of nada. The drunkerer I got, the more I observed and compared. He was the only one that was really attentive to his customers. So logically, I was ready to try their food.
I left everything to his sole discretion. This includes the food and the alcoholic beverages. Because for some reason or another, you ran out of the basic ingredients for my generic first drink. Who cares. Because whatever the Hell that was he was bringinging me, had me feeling nice.
I’m not certain one bit if the servers mix their own drinks, or, if the giggly chicks do it for them. I really don’t know. I will tell you this, though. If the giggly chicks were the ones mixing these drinks I was consuming, go ahead and Liquid Paper that paragraph up above. See, with no shame, I am an Alcoholic. I know my drinks. The main ones, anyway. A badly made drink, top shelf or other, at the pace I was downing them, will require the Paramedics outside.
I saw mini-​pizzas going back and forth all night. Probably because it’s the cheapest thing on their menu. I never saw a menu, though. Yes, The Annex is pricy. These must be Hipsters from Coral Gables that come here. Not «ridiculous pricy» taking into consideration everything that is wonderful about this very unique restaurant/​bar. I actually talked to people visiting from Europe last night. When I’m drunk I like to talk. So, their pizza was his obvious first recommendation.
They really looked delicious and consistent from afar but, I wanted something else. He shows-​up with something called «Picadito Criollo.» Picture a Spaniard having sex with a Mexican from El Paso, legal, with a Cuban Chonga from Hialeah watching. They three move into a house together continuing their sinful acts. Then one day, they come-​up with this dish in the kitchen. Yeah, that’s it.
Very nice recommendation. My goodness, give this young man a raise already.
One thing worth mentioning, their restrooms. Or, their lack thereof. I guess Coral Gables Hipsters don’t like using Port-​a-​Potties, eh? You have room for a couple and need them.

This restaurant has a great feel & fits the artsy Wynwood Concept!
Ambience (4 stars)
The ambiance & vibe is extremely unique and very cool! We went for Sunday Brunch. We really enjoyed that they had live music which was also very cool for Sunday Brunch!
Menu (4 stars)
They offer a good number of creative choices which include Salads, Sandwiches, Pizzas and brunch items.
The pancake sandwich was cool However we felt it was missing something. The Mexican meat pizza was pretty good.
Service (2 – 3 stars)
Unfortunately the service was below par. Which is why I’m giving it 3 stars. We thought this was really a shame since this place has so much potential to be a 4 star restaurant! Our server was really nice but seems to have been a little rusty. Its seems she was working to many tables.
Everyone in our table received their plates at different times and my finance was served 15 minutes after our friends and myself ate.
I would still go back & give it another shot hoping they really can work on improving the service since the place was really cool and has potential to be awesome!

Atmosphere is great, the place is designed beautifully, but the service is horrible! Bartenders are rude. Such a shame cause before I got such bad service, I was thinking of bringing my family here. Also, took a peek at the menu, yikes! Super expensive for what it is… $ 12 for a glass of wine? No thanks.

I’m sitting here writing my review as I wait for our check. Which was over 15 minutes ago. Coming in to the restaurant, we were entranced. Great vibe, wonderful happy hour prices (½ off pizza and pitchers) and bumpkin beat.
The pizza was great, particularly the Annex.
We ordered two. The Annex came out quickly. Our second one took 40 minutes at least after. I had to even ask where it was at one point.
When going to a place it’s all about the food quality but if the service can’t keep up, it makes the trip there questionable. Hopefully things will change service wise soon.

Brunch with the Babes
Great innovative brunch items! Everyone loved what they got from Waffle BLTs to Portobello Spinach Benedict to Goat Cheese BB Toast and of course Good Olé Fashion Pancakes. The drinks were also great with generous single portions of Bloody Mary and Sangrias. The vibe is chill with what we would describe as an open air hipster carnival lol If you’re looking for something unique this is it.
4 star rating due to the heat. We arrived at about 11:30am on a Sunday in Aug. It was very hot if you weren’t in the direct path of one of their many fans. We hope to return after Oct when it cools down.

The place was cool and I loved the live music. Although it was a tad loud but hey, thats personal preference.
The food was average. The pancakes were dry and bland and not tasteful at all. My meal wasn’t exciting at all. Two eggs with 1 piece of chkn saugage, I guess it was ok for $ 12 bucks just stay away from the cement like pancakes.
The service was awesome!

40 minutes and counting… waiting for our food. Not that busy! Now 50 minutes. I believe if the place is not equipped or staffed to handle customers they should let people know when they come in. Also, now it got a little busy but when I arrived it wasn’t. Place looks cool and relaxed but that does not justify the lack of proper service. I’ll finish this review without even knowing if the food is good!!!
Well, place deserves me to continue. I’ll add a picture of my plate. Check out the portion size of my eggs. Is that for real or they ran out of food?

I drove past this place many times and was always curious about it. My friend ended up wanting to come here for her birthday, so we came. It is a restaurant /​lounge with couches and bistro lights. We first started with the calamari and cheese plate which were ok at best. As the rest of the group arrived, things declined. The mojito that my friend ordered was watered down and did not taste good. The pizzas were undercooked and soggy.
Then it started to rain…
The whole place started to flood and they shut down the lights and electricity because it wasn’t safe for patrons. (The weather was obviously not the venues fault, but since it is Miami they need to be prepared for all types of weather.)
The only good thing about the place was that the manager came by and didn’t make us pay for the food or drinks.

only in wynwood a place like The Annex will over a Sunday brunch while in a vintage junkyard circus tent. Morgan’s overflow pop-​up restaurant, despite the flys and hot temperatures the food made up for it!
The Waffel BLT was a hit at the table, a classic sandwich with a twist wrapped up in waffel. The pancakes were delicious too.

Food was delicious! That being said… If you are a clean freak, beware. Since you are outside, flies will swarm you and your food. Their silverware is rusty, cups dirty, and water tastes like it comes out of a garden hose.
Service wasn’t great either. Our waiter forgot to get us water. They forgot 2 of our meals and had to remake them when everyone else already got their food. They made it right though by not charging us for those meals.
Would not go there on a hot day. You are in the shade, but the fans are not enough to keep you cool. No ice in the water so there’s no way to keep cool. We were all sweaty by the time our food came out.
At first look, the atmosphere is cool. Very hipster. But having sat through it on a hot day, I would not again. It’s a shame because the food was amazing

My family came down from NYC and wanted a different kind of brunch setting than the typical So. Beach hotel/​Sidewalk scene on an early Sunday afternoon. Oh my goodness were we all so pleasantly surprised!!! The Annex is out of the ordinary in many more ways than I can possibly fit into this review. The food is phenomenal! The atmosphere is extraordinary! The overall vibe you are immersed in is beyond description! The carnivalesque meets Wynwood meets «SOHO» feeling is palpable in the dècor the moment you walk in. Sit back and enjoy the show as the food will lead you into a dimension that you don’t want to step out of. There wasn’t a single item that we ordered that we didn’t rave about; the «toasties,» «Bronzino,» «pancakes,» «eggs Benedict,» and I can go on and on as each one was better than the other. Desserts are huge and incredibly delicious as well.
Don’t think twice about giving The Annex the opportunity to dazzle you! You’ll become a fan too!
Five Stars!!!

The Annex is my current crush. Such a unique space with great ambiance, good food, nice wine selection and attentive service. The live music is also enjoyable without being so loud that you can’t talk to your neighbor. I loved it so much, I went back to celebrate my birthday here, and the staff couldn’t have been friendlier or more accommodating (even though there were 20+ of us)! Very relaxed and welcoming place for when you want to get out of the house, keep it low key but still have fun.

Confession: I’m over midtown and bars that scatter vintage furniture around to make me feel like I’m somewhere cool.
That said, I really enjoyed my night here. Lou was our server/​barman and he couldnt have been more cool, friendly and the complete opposite of too hipster for you cool.
Could have just been a fluke but I’ll come back to make sure.

Wow! I have to say that I am teensy-​bit sad that The Annex is only a temporary addition to the neighborhood. Now, I didn’t go here during Basel-​craziness, I went on nice chill Thursday so I could actually sit and enjoy the ambiance. I also didn’t eat here, so this review is strictly for the drinking and hang-​out factor of this location. We had dinner at Morgan’s so we decided to pop over to the Annex to check it out and have an after-​dinner-​beer (colada flavored of course!).
The Annex has an adorable look and a great vibe, the staff was friendly and attentive. I love all the chairs and tables set up under a large tent. The look and feel reminds me of Athens, GA’s bars and people’s homes, so it made me a bit homesick. It’s nice to see that Miami is finally beginning to have some interest in retro-​culture, something that was lacking here for so many years, and was sorely missed when I first moved here. Hey better late than never I guess. Anyhoo, back to Annex… There’s board games, freshly recovered vintage furniture pieces, large mosaic tables and a pop-​up food truck and bar. The Annex has all the makings for a great concept in a great location and open until New Year’s Eve this year. Definitely try to stop by and check it out for a beer or wine prior while you can.
