History
Established in 1987.
My history in the floral industry started in 1975 in Columbus, Ohio where I helped my family introduce retail flower sales to supermarket shelves. In 1982, I started 5 years on the importing side of the industry where I accidentally learned of the hunger for fresh flowers in offices, when I made a deal with the tenant across the way: flowers in trade for a parking spot. Every Friday, I would deliver a box of fresh cut flowers to them and watched in awe their amazing reactions: smiles everywhere, attitudes enriched and believe it or not, productivity increased. The concept for The Flower Club born and in 1987 we opened up for business. With a lot of help from my family, years of hard work and dedication, superb contacts for the best quality flowers, we’ve now been putting smiles on people’s faces for over 27 years.
Meet the Business Owner
Ligia C.
Business Owner
I was born in Medellin, Colombia. In 1971, my father moved the family from Colombia to Columbus, Ohio. As a middle child (9 siblings), without command of the English language, and at the awkward age of 14, I wanted to crawl under a rock and never come out. I managed to finish high school even though it took me approx. 2 years to learn the language and have been working every since. The Floral Industry was in its infancy in 1975 when our family approached Kroger Supermarkets with the concept of selling flowers in their stores. The pilot test lasted 5 years and proved successful enough for them to do it on their own, but that’s when I first developed my love of fresh flowers. Then, when in Miami for vacation in 1982, I fell in love with the weather and the city and was able to find a job working for a floral importer. I love Miami… I love fresh flowers… and I love sharing my joy with my clients and most importantly, with my wonderful husband Chris.
