Specialties
A gourmet Cuban bakery and café
History
Established in 2008.
Having lived in Shorecrest for the past eight years, Yiya’s owners Abbie Cuellar and Delsa Bernardo had long hope that someone would open an authentic Cuban bakery and café in the neighborhood. After eight years of hoping, the savvy pair took matters into their own hands, buying the old Shorecrest Cleaners on 79th Street, and setting out to turn it into the hippest Cuban bakery and café north of Havana.
The inspiration behind Yiya’s Bakery was Abbie’s mother, Julia Rose Lima, affectionately known as Yiya. Yiya left Cuba in the late fifties but never forgot her traditions or her mother’s recipes. Her passion for food and her family meant holidays always saw a house full of family, feasting on traditional desserts like flan and dulce de leche. Visitors never left her home without having had their cafecito and a dessert, and no matter what your troubles were, her café con leche and pastelitos always made it better. Yiya’s Bakery hopes to share some of these same sweet moments with you.
