History

Established in 2011.

Noted as one of the country’s best marksmen via his appearance on History Channels TOP SHOT, Frank Melloni decided to pursue a profession in teaching the skills that comprise his lifestyle. Backing up skill with numerous NRA Instructor Certifications, Renaissance Firearms Instruction was born.

Having the opportunity to trade shooting tips and tactics with some of the most talented shooters in the world it only seemed prudent to infuse this vital and privileged information into all of our courses.

Business Owner

Frank Melloni has a life driving passion for shooting. Growing up in Suffolk County he spent his childhood shooting air rifles, later progressing to rimfire rifles and after obtaining property in North Eastern Pennsylvania, centerfire rifles and pistols.

Always having an interest in history (particularly World War II) he seized the opportunity to further expand his collection by adding historic firearms to it, one at a time, and only moving onto another after the previous has been mastered.

Frank Melloni can be found in his spare time practicing what he preaches at various ranges throughout Long Island and North Eastern Pennsylvania. When he is not shooting he is either researching new firearms and or reloading materials, as well as advancing his knowledge of ballistics.

We came here a few months ago for the 2 hour Historic Shooting class. I had taken my ID out of my bag for whatever reason, and when I explained that to Frank, he gladly rescheduled me and made it so simple. We just went on 12÷5÷15. What a great time me and my husband had!
It starts out with a history class about the guns you are going to shoot. I loved that. Learning about how and why rifles progressed throughout our history was so awesome. I have to stress that Frank and his instructor made me feel safe, made me feel like when I got to the actual shooting part, I was knowledgeable enough to be safe. The M1 Garand ruined my shoulder for a few days, but I loved it. So much so, that me and my husband joined the NRA and we also applied for a rifle permit.
When my gun jammed, they were quick and prompt to help me. When I was nervous, they calmed me down and made me feel confident. I can’t wait to go to either the Zombie shooting or take a full on rifle course, but they have my vote!

Frank is a great instructor. I did the 2 hour historic military shooting class this past Saturday that I purchased from groupon and loved it. My shoulder did not like the M1 Garand lol but it was a lot of fun and I learned a lot about military history and how to shoot 5 different guns. I would recommend to anyone interested in firearms.
I am probably going to go to the 2– Hour Zombie Apocalypse Shoot :-)

I needed to buy a shotgun for home protection after my home had an attempted break in at 3 AM
I never felt as helpless and terrified as I did that night
I decided to buy a home defense shotgun but was afraid to bring it into my home until I felt comfortable using it. I wanted to be SURE I was proficient at loading and unloading as well as how to keep it interesting home safely
I obtained the name of Renaissance from the store I bought my shotgun.
I called and spoke to Frank Melloni.
The thing he stressed most was gun safety!!!
He is an excellent instructor. He explains everything in terms the lay person understands. He is so knowledgable and patient and just an overall great person.
I’ve been working with him for months now and I highly recommend him.
He takes what he does seriously and is the consummate professional.

As a person who is extremely interested in military history but with very little firearm experience, I was excited to see a Groupon advertising a «2-​Hour Historic Military Firearm-​Shooting Experience.» I bought the Groupon, made the reservations and eagerly awaited the day of my reservation. I was not disappointed. The «shooting experience» vastly exceeded my expectations and was well worth the price.
The first part of the experience was in a classroom where Frank discussed, in great detail and in an engaging way, the history of firearms in war. He then discussed, and demonstrated with a fake gun, how to shoot safely, how to aim, and how to hold the gun. Although the class discussion was lively and fun, it was made clear that safety was paramount.
The second part of the experience was the shooting part. We went across the hall from the classroom into the shooting range. Each person was able to fire 5 rounds from a Mosin-​Nagant, SKS, M1 Garand, AK-​47, and an AR-​15. Frank and his assistant (I think her name was Barbara), were incredibly helpful and paid close attention to anyone who needed help with their rifle or who had any questions. The class was kept small enough that we only needed to wait a few minutes to fire each rifle.
Overall, it was an absolutely fantastic experience and I hope to attend another event with Renaissance very soon!

I had never fired or held a gun before, but Frank and his trainer made it easy. Their knowledge and competence were apparent and put me at ease. So was his emphasis on, and seriousness about, safety. I felt safe knowing he would eject anyone who was not adhering to the rules. I learned a lot, and that there is a lot more to know, which is what a course like this should do.

Frank M is an excellent instructor as are his assistant instructors — courses are friendly and not intimidating — I’ve taken both the basic rifle and basic pistol courses and both are worth the time and effort to complete. Classroom instruction is hands-​on in learning the «technique» of handling a rifle or pistol — the ‘live-​fire” portion of the class is invaluable in building confidence and quickly putting into practice what you learned in the classroom. Safety is always paramount — I have left both courses with enough knowledge to know how to handle my rifle and pistol safely while understanding the skills that have to be mastered to improve my marksmanship. Definitely an outstanding experience that gives the confidence and knowledge needed when dealing with firearms.

What an amazing experience! We purchased a groupon for the 2 hour shooting class. The instructor was great and informative on safety and knowledge of the rifles. The actual shooting part was great! The instructors were there assist in loading the guns. I would recommend to all my friends and family and definitely will be back! Thank you!!!

I was looking forward to my first intro into the world of firearms and was pleasantly surprised at what I got! First very professional and it was well organized. There is one on one instruction even though I was in a group setting. And I am going to take a regular class which is a full day because my experience was that good!!!

Purchased 2 Groupons for the beginner rifle course because I had just purchased my first shotgun. I did this without my wifes knowledge because she is dead set against guns in the house. She then came to Franks course with me kicking and screaming, only because I already purchased the Groupons. Long story longer… She had a great shooting experience and we are now looking to get her a 20 gauge shotgun for self defense! WOW!
