Briar Patch Bed & Breakfast Inn

Beautiful scenery and a cozy atmosphere. Breakfast is homemade and was served buffet style and there wasn’t a tv in every room so if you don’t plan on exploring the area then I suggest bringing a book or something to do inside. There is wifi!

We decided to stay at Briar Patch after I won a gift certificate for a one-​night stay Sunday-​Thursday. My husband and I chose to visit on a Sunday night. After a long hike in Sky Meadows Park, it was nice to come back and relax at the inn. There were no other guests (probably because it was a Sunday night). The staff was super friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was great. Overall, I think it’s a perfect place to stay given that you’re already going out to that area to hike, visit wineries, etc.

Briar Patch is quite a lovely venue for a wedding. The main house offers sleeping quarters for out of town relatives and guests and the one bedroom cottage is the perfect honeymoon suite. Renting out the entire site also offers a different feel from your typical bigger wedding venues. The Fox Den is a beautiful reception space and getting married with a giant tree as a backdrop is just magical. Plus having an after party with a fire-​pit, a pool and a hot tub is a nice touch!
tip: they do have wi-​fi, but it’s spotty.

Amazingly polite and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast every morning at 9am but even if you aren’t up til 10 they’ll still make breakfast for you! Whole kitchen, fridge, pantries of food to serve yourself and cook if you want. Great resturaunts in nearby towns as well. Iris room was spotlessly clean with a very comfy bed, fire place, so cozy. The grounds are beautiful with retired race horses to feed, benches and swings to read and enjoy the weather, great views of the countryside, Jacuzzi and Pool are relaxing additions. If you want to mingle with other guests you certainly can but if you want to be secluded you will have no problem relaxing alone or with loved one! I wish I never had to leave!

My *now* husband and I were looking for a perfect location for our wedding. We had a few things we wanted in mind. We wanted a «semi-​destination» where we and our close family and friends could get away from the crazy Northern Virginia lifestyle, we wanted our wedding to feel like a family reunion, we wanted something cute and scenic, and something that reminded me of being at my grandfather’s house as a child.
We drove up the long gravel driveway, under the canopy of trees, and at the end of the drive we saw the beautiful historic main house. We knew we found something special. We walked the grounds, saw all the adorable rooms, the grand reception hall with huge crystal chandeliers, the more intimate wood beamed cocktail room, the open patio with the amazing view, the pool and hot tub, and finally the ceremony site. A large open site with a huge tree front and center. I turned to my then-​fiancé and told him, I think this is it.
Once we sat down and started talking dates and costs, they informed us of «Dan’s Deals». My fiancé and I were going to be paying for our entire wedding ourselves, so budget was a huge factor. They offered us a great deal if we booked a date that was 3 months away. My fiancé and I love a good challenge, so after getting the parents’ approval we decided to go for it.
The venue and everyone working at the venue was MORE than perfect. Everyone was super responsive, available to answer questions at nearly any time in the day, sweet, smiling and just seemed to love their job! The venue itself was beautiful, clean, amazing. I felt like I was living in a fairy tale the entire weekend. We would walk around at night surrounded by fireflies, little bunnies, frogs, and even a little groundhog poked his head out to see what was going on. It was better than anything I ever imagined. The sheets were so soft and comfortable, and they even found a pair of sunglasses someone had left behind and mailed them to me!
Best weekend of my life.

Stayed in the Iris room 2 nights within the main house. The staff and Ali were exceptional hosts, who tried to cater to all our needs. The breakfast was always very nice and with vegetarian options for food. The snacks and little touches were great and when we were there, it felt like we were at a friend’s house — very comfortable.
Why the 4 stars? We are not too picky when it comes to B&B facilities, especially one built in early 1800’s (main house) BUT the place needs maintenance and upkeep (TLC). Not that we are going to stay there for long enough to ‘care’ but we think for the sake of safety and general upkeep it needs a good top-​down review of repairs and maintenance: walkways, roof, barn area, electric fence, gate, jacuzzi area, overgrown shrubs, pruning of trees, etc…
So, no you will not be majorly impacted by any of this for a few nights stay but I would definitely do a walk through first if I were to book a wedding, corp retreat here, etc. We did not go into the venue space — only looked in and it seemed very nice inside.
Overall the staff makes it a great place and locations was perfect to launch to local wineries, Shanendoah River, great hiking and excellent boutiques and restaurants in the area…

My family & I had a great time at this lovely & charming B & B. We loved the Cottage & thought it was very well put together. Most importantly, it was very clean! Also, the bed was very comfortable & the sheets were silky soft. As for the breakfast, it was very good & we’ll prepared, though I would have liked a little more meat. .or any meat at all would be good.
The property is really beautiful & close to many wineries/​distilleries. Even though it had some nice amenities, like the pool & hot tub, it needs some detailed maintenance, ie, trees growing out of gutters. Speaking of maintenance, they need to get a licensed plumber to do some repairs, like the shower hot & cold is reversed, the pedistal sink handles are reversed & the toilet barely flushes. Being a licensed plumber myself, you will pay less if you have it fixed right the first time, instead of using a handyman do it over & over.
The only reason I didn’t give a 5* is because the window air conditioners are loud & gross. It’s time to change them out for a Heat Pump Mini Split system. They are very quiet, modern looking, reliable, will open up your windows & will save you a ton of $ on your electric bill. Plus, they will actually cool off the rooms.
All in all, we had a great time. We too felt the atmosphere was lacking a personal touch. The owner is not around & the employees are just going through the motions. For instance, when we went down to breakfast this morning after 9am, there was no one & no food. We called the number on the board & the girl said she was in traffic & would be there in a few minutes. I would think she would get there like an hour early to prepare the food. We came back a half hour later & she over cooked the eggs & burned the crosaunts. She might want to take the cooking class too.
Still worth going to stay at this charming B & B in this beautiful part of the country.

Briar Patch is an exceptionally quaint Bed & Breakfast located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Middleburg, VA. I had planned to visit for a night with my girlfriend to celebrate her 25^th birthda and arrived in the evening after a day at Barrel Oak Winery. Before booking, I called and asked if I could have an Amazon package delivered and the contents displayed in the room ahead of our arrival. The proprietor, Henriette, not only received and placed the package in the Rose Room but also arranged the presents (books) in a basket on the dresser and placed the other present (an espresso maker) in a gift bag with tissue paper. The entire display was very considerate and went above and beyond what I was expecting. Needless to say, my girlfriend was thrilled.
The next morning we had a delicious home cooked breakfast on the patio while mingling with other guests. There was orange juice and champagne ready for mimosas, fresh fruit, homemade pancakes with fruit, and fresh coffee cake. Everything tasted great and the wide variety of fresh food coupled with the ambiance of Briar Patch’s beautiful property all contributed to a very memorable morning.
Overall, we had an amazing experience at Briar Patch and the personal care that went into everything from the room with presents, to the breakfast, not to mention the accommodations made for our small dog were all extremely thoughtful. This is a great place to visit and we will definitely be back again.

I was planning on leaving a three star, but when we checked out the place waived our remaining charges (after our LivingSocial voucher had been applied) due to the malfunctioning toilet flush in our bathroom. Overall we had a nice two-​night stay in the Violet Room. We did not know (probably our own fault for not looking into it closely) that room would share the same bathroom with the Hyacinth Room, but luckily no one was staying at the Hyacinth Room we so had the bathroom to ourselves.
There wasn’t much interaction with the staff onsite. We came down for breakfast late on both mornings (we had been told it’d be served around 9 and usually run till 10:30); but we wanted to just relax and not have to worry about setting our alarms since we were, well, on vacation. Coming down sometime between 9:45−10, we served our own breakfast from the counter, which was fine. Sadly we didn’t feel welcomed by the lady who cooked (I think Henriette), who exhibited virtually no interest in chatting with us while we sat and ate by ourselves at the table and she worked around in the kitchen. I’m not sure if it was because our late arrival caused any inconvenience or if she was just for whatever reason disinterested in striking up a conversation. But we didn’t mind much.
We appreciated the fact that they let us redeem our LivingSocial voucher that we had purchased over three years ago. Of course it had long expired but we were able to use the amount paid toward our total charge. We had also made multiple attempts to schedule a stay, but through our own fault hadn’t been able to commit to a date until last month. After I informed Henriette at breakfast one morning about the broken flush in our bathroom they offered to take the remaining charges (I think it would’ve been $ 69) off our bill or give us another bottle of wine, so that was much appreciated.
We got to play with Henriette’s dog, Lola, one day after we came back; and there were five cats at one time outside the house. They had a piano out in the backyard which I got to play a little. There are tables and chairs set up on the porch; the swing and the pool also made our stay extra scenic and relaxing.
Our voucher included a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates upon arrival, as well as wine tasting coupons to three nearby wineries. Unfortunately since we stayed Sunday through Tuesday, there were a lot of wineries that were closed on weekdays. But we took advantage of the opportunities and still visited Miracle Valley, Naked Mountain, and Barrel Oak on Monday. A great value for what we’d paid, and I’d definitely be inclined to do it again should there be another chance for a similar deal.
Overall we had a nice stay and I’d be back, but I’ll make sure we stay in a room with its own bathroom. The broken flush wasn’t too much trouble since a lot of the other rooms upstairs were empty and I was able to sneak in another bathroom (that or manually fill water into our toilet’s tank and flush). I also had trouble closing the hole in the tub in our bathroom so I had to use another to take a bath. I can definitely see why some people feel the facilities in the house are a bit too old and need repair.

When my husband and I set out to plan our wedding, we knew that we didn’t want the conventional wedding weekend. Instead, we wanted to put our own spin on things by keeping everything simple and relaxed in a beautiful outdoorsy setting with lots of family time. Briar Patch was the PERFECT solution to accomplish this goal! Instead of one long marathon wedding day, we split things up by holding an intimate family ceremony on Friday night instead of a rehearsal and dinner, followed by a big party on Saturday where we invited additional friends to join us! This was made possible because we had exclusive use of the property from Friday afternoon to lunch on Sunday. We had the freedom, flexibility, and tools to take things slow, enjoy the location, be together with friends and family, and do things our way.
The Briar Patch staff went out of their way to support this non-​traditional format, and was a huge resource and supporter every step of the way. Leading up to our wedding, they answered each question in record time, provided vendor suggestions (we loved Helga’s!!!), and chipped in tips and resources whenever possible.
The weekend of the event they welcomed us with open arms, remained on site to provide support, and hosted my family for a delicious breakfast each morning.
The Briar Patch B&B and Fox Den were the ideal setting to give us the fun, low-​key, intimate, and BEAUTIFUL wedding we wanted, and Dan and Co. went above and beyond to make everything possible. We are so grateful that you were a part of our big day, and know that as a couple, we will be celebrating anniversaries and milestones with you for years to come! We are especially excited about taking advantage of your «pet-​friendly» benefit! Thanks for everything!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Briar Patch Bed and Breakfast for our anniversary and had a perfect romantic getaway. We left right after work and it was amazing to see a quick transition from the busy Northern Virginia area to the quaint and picturesque town of Middleburg. Who knew this place was only 30 minutes from home. The drive in was beautiful — we were surrounded by mountains, farm houses, and open fields.
When we arrived, we received a warm welcome from the manager, Ali. She gave us a tour of the Inn, which we learned was built in the 1800s. We also saw the rest of the property — the Fox Den (where they have weddings) and the outdoor pool and hot tub area. Ali made us feel right at home. The kitchen had «help yourself» homemade coffee cake, drinks in the refrigerator, and a Flavia machine with all kinds of coffee options.
Our room was beautiful. With china and pottery on the shelves for decoration, the owner stays true to the antique beauty of the estate. That said, the fireplace was very modern and kept the room cozy for us all night. The bed was very comfortable as well.
For dinner, Ali both suggested a restaurant and made reservations for us. We went to the French Hound, which turned out to be perfect for our special occasion. The atmosphere was warm and cozy and the food was delicious. The Briar Patch provided fantastic hospitality. That, and the town of Middleburg in general make for a perfect local escape from DC. We may even consider having our wedding there when the time comes.

Not happy AT ALL! I went there based on the previous reviews and the pictures. What I stumbled upon was an, initially, more rustic B&B than desired and then, upon further inspection, a place that left LOTS to be desired. The walls looked like they had been patched together, the fireplaces are for show and DO NOT emit heat (except for 2), the shower tiled was painted where the tiles should have been replaced, and the morning breakfast was just ok at best. Lastly, while I would have appreciated a slightly more secure environment (the doors are left unlocked!), the staff seemed very nice.

Pros:
–Exceedingly charming, just like you’d imagine a bed and breakfast to be. Every detail was just perfect.
–Delightful staff.
–Easy check-​in and out.
–All the accommodations you’d ever need.
–Hot tub!
–Tasty vegetarian breakfast.
–The bed was the most comfortable I have EVER slept on.
–Close to many attractions.
–Very clean
Cons:
–The bathroom tile and tub are very slippery and hard to step up into.
–We could hear every every time our upstairs neighbors turned on the faucet or walked across the room. It was very loud. Get a room on the second floor!
–Very drafty.
–Wireless connection was slow.
–The décor is like a country grandma’s house. This may be romantic for some, but I found it kind of stuffy and a little too «family friendly». But if that’s what you’re looking for then it certainly provides.

I won an overnight stay here at a bridal showcase, being that it was right next to our wedding venue (Chrysalis) I was so excited. From the moment we checked in to the second we left, we were treated perfectly. What the Briar Patch staff didn’t know was that my fiancé and I had been apart for seven months and that weekend was not only his birthday but the weekend I was moving to CA to be with him. I believe customer service can make or break a situation, the Briar Patch made ours.
When we arrived the owner showed us to our room (Iris) and made us feel right at home, the room was just lovely and we even had our own patio. We had brought our own champagne but they provided glasses, plus a full homemade breakfast and plenty of snacks. They have a pool and hot tub, that we jumped into after a glass of champagne;) I am honestly not a cat person– and the property has many pets, including outdoor cats. the cats are so friendly and sweet, my fiancé took a picture that he will forever hold against me of me loving on the cat. The dogs (i’m a big dog person) were all so friendly and well behaved as well.
We are both high-​tech people and the service was poor (as it is in all of middleburg), also only one tv in a common area. This place was so relaxing and pleasant, I didn’t even think about wi-​fi. I wish i could win a million stays at this place, and I will definitely recommend it to my guest for my wedding, and will book for my next visit back east.

Wonderful old home (old portion built 1805) on the rural section of Route 50 just beyond Aldie and about three miles short of Middleburg.
We spent an evening there midweek in December, when Middleburg is dressed up for Christmas, and looks for all the world like something out of a Currier and Ives lithograph.
The accommodations were clean and comfortable, and befitting an historic property.
The breakfast was quite good, and there were plenty of drinks and snacks and pastries available ²⁴⁄₇. Met some very nice couples who were staying there, and the conversation was pleasant. The place is also spacious enough that you don’t have to stay in your room to find quiet, private spaces.
They are very dog friendly, and our field spaniel loved the place.
It’s barely an hour out of DC, and a fine change of pace from city life.

Loved this place! I am from NYC, and was looking for a fun country get-​a-​way long weekend to indulge by rural side, and to escape the pollution and vibes in the city. Being that I lived in Upstate New York earlier this year, I figured hey why not see something a little different.
Briar Patch was beautiful. We stayed in the cottage. The grounds were very well cared for, which I appreciate. The location was perfect to take advantage of wine country, horseback, fresh farm foods and restaurants. It was wonderful.
The cottage was just like home right away. The aroma of essential oils in the air, it was so great. The cottage was so beautiful, especially the bathroom. There is a supermarket close by with a Red Box, so we enjoyed a meal and a movie.
I requested a Gluten Free breakfast which Charlotte provided, which I was happy to find in a rural area. Big sell for me. I also took advantage of the hot tub. it was very therapeutic. Did I mention they are pet friendly. My 6 month old Beabull really enjoyed it. This trip was great for him.
I could not give 5 stars because the wi-​fi signal strength did not successfully reach the cottage, and the computer room was not guest. It would have been nice to look up area activities and events. We will return to Briar Patch if we are in the area again.

This review is specifically for The Fox Den at Briar Patch — a separate facility housed in a small building — perfect for all sorts of events.
Some friends of mine held their annual fundraiser at The Fox Den — the 9^th Annual 2012 Chili Cook Off and Food Bank Fundraiser.
The Fox Den has a semi-​spacious lobby area — with a large room off to the left, and the larger main room beyond the lobby — complete with a fireplace. To the right of the lobby is a small kitchen area. There are coat closets on the left hand side of the lobby with lots of hangars.
Outside to left and back of the main room is patio area.
The Chili Cook Off and other foods to be judged were in the room off to the left of the lobby — along with a bar serving beer and wine — while a hostess greeted attendees in the main lobby area. Tables were set up in the main room for folks to sit and chat, drink, and eat Chili and other snacks.
They have a free Wifi network in the facility — the network is password protected, so you’ll need to obtain the password to get on the network — as we did.
Oddly enough, The Briar Patch has a Middleburg, VA address, however, it is far closer to Aldie, VA.
Great venue for special events! Check it out.

Briar Patch Bed & Breakfast is an amazing place to spring board your DC area /​Middleburg /​Wine country trip /​Wedding. Highly recommended for everyone!
I can’t speak to the wedding accommodations, but they would be amazing and their event hall is perfect for small and large weddings.
We got to know this place because of their Living Social deal.
Seasoned bed and breakfast goers and newbies to the bed and breakfast scene, like us, love this place. It was a daunting experience, booking our first b&b, but Briar Patch made it warm, friendly, communal but not crazily so, and accommodating. The breakfast was tasty, the pool was fun, the hot tub is a plus, and the grounds are pleasant. They are pet friendly as well.
The rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable; we stayed in the Violet /​Hyacinth Suite and loved it! They have a living room with direct tv and wifi if you need it (although with so much wine to taste in the area, why would you spend time on the couch?)
Wine country! They give you wine tasting coupons, maps, and recommendations for the area. So helpful and awesome! You could easily spend a week here enjoying Virginia wineries.
If you’re considering a weekend stay, you may have to book off-​season, November — March, because Briar Patch, being one of the premier DC area country wedding sites, book up for weekend weddings most of the summer.
If you’re wondering of staying here, just stop wondering and book a stay… you won’t regret it.

I had a great stay here a couple of months ago. Although the inn is located on Route 50, the grounds are very tranquil and quiet. There are many cats on the property and it was fun to take pictures of them and feed them little bits of smoked salmon and crackers. I stayed in the well-​appointed Iris room which was very charming with its own private bath.
My hesitations in giving five stars are 1) the Wi-​Fi connection was spotty and unreliable so no streaming movies while snuggled up with a glass of wine and 2) the breakfast left something to be desired.
Overall, the staff was quite lovely and accomodating. I would definitely stay here again.

Great views, wonderful /​helpful staff and owners!!! The breakfast was really good each morning (should have had bacon). The room was very clean /​bed was plush. Bathrooms were very clean! Even had Q-​tips (bonus!) Bring your swimsuit! The hot tub is worth spending a few nights in under the stars.
Not too far from a number of wineries! Great food nearby! Would highly rec to anyone (who is looking for a get away)!!! The house has wireless but no tvs… but honestly I can’t tell you how much i loved NOT having a tv.
