Quassy Amusement & Waterpark

I was in the Middlebury area for my daughters dance competition that was actually being held at this small family orientated Amusement Park.
Quassy as it is called was originally built as a «trolley park» back in the early 1900’s. Somehow this gem of a place has survived where others have closed up and faded into history and memory long ago. I believe it’s because of its great location.
Apart from hills and pasture land the closet medium sized city is 20 minute drive. There is no Six Flags in this fairly rural, small town area.
It is situated on the shore of Lake Quassapaug. It’s beautiful location lends itself to breezy summer days enjoying the sites and sounds of people enjoying themselves on the rides and playing the games as the pleasing aroma of fried dough brings a smile to your face.
If your in the area and looking for something to fill your day either relaxing lake side or on a carnival ride this is the place!
There is one wood roller coaster called the «Wooden Warrior» lots of kid and adult sized rides as well.
The grounds are clean and nice. Lots of food options/​selections.
I got a really nice fresh grilled chicken, garden salad for lunch. My son got a Hot Dog with fries. Prices were reasonable for the quality and quantity of what we got.
Draught beers available.
We spent the day going on all of the rides several times.
Pros: beautiful location, rides and waterpark, food availability. Reasonable pricing, all day or per ride.
Plenty of room for amount of people. Short lines. Cleanliness.
Cons: unenthusiastic staff. Lack of sanitary facilities. There was only one bathroom for the amusement park and one for the waterpark. Thank fully the park is not a large place and it wasn’t a very far walk.
Strange attitude towards admission and pricing.
A special needs pass is available at a reduced price.
However this doesn’t get your child/​family member with special needs any special privileges as far as waiting in the lines. You still have to wait. The special needs pass just gets you admission at a reduced price. There was a lot of confusion by the staff of what a special need pass was/​meant.
At other parks a special needs pass allows you priority seating/​admission to rides.
I would return if in the area.

Finally returned to this place after 20 years. The place has come a long way. They removed the mouse coaster and replaced it with a nice wooden coaster. Other things I have noticed, but do not remember if they were there or new additions were the water park and Arcade. As with most amusement parks, the food here is expensive for the portions that you receive. I went to the potato patch around 12pm and got a burger and fries. The burger was cold when I received it, but the fries were warm. Fries were mushy. Got a popcorn and it was very stale. Overall, I would not recommend this place for the food. Boat rides were an extra fee to ride so I passed for my first visit back. At first the rides do seem kid oriented, but as a middle aged adult I can say that they really do have fun for everyone. The following attractions could be enjoyed by adults and young adults — Train, Roller Coaster, Waterpark, outdoor boat, arcade, and the various the various spinning rides. For kids, there is a kid theater in the center of the park and the day that I attended, a magician performed who also performs up the road at pies and pints.
One thing that makes Lake Quassy stand out over other amusement parks that I have visited is the lines. They were nowhere near as long as fellow CT park Lake Compounce. Another thing was the parking. Although the lot filled up quickly, there were plenty of spots to park in and they were not insanely far from the park.
Overall, I was very impressed with my visit back to Quassy and being in the area, I plan to come back again.

We go there once a year in the summer for their saturday night carload fun. This year they up the price to $ 40(but parking was included). It’s well worth it. They have way more rides than the county fair and we usually spend like twice as much in our county fair. The rides are mostly for smaller kids. There’s one wooden roller coaster which is not very thrilling, but better than nothing. There’s also a kiddie roller coaster which my 2 year old daughter enjoyed very much. Needless to say, it gets very very crowded in saturday evenings because of the special. The wait time for the rides are long, and there are a lot of kids from economically challenged families who don’t behave very well. We need to follow our kids everywhere to make sure they aren’t knocked down by those wild running kids. They also have a nice water park area but when we got there it’s already a little bit cold so we didn’t bother to let our kids to go there. Over all it’s an amazing nearby amusement park. If you don’t want to drive any further to lake compounce then this one is definitely for you.

An excellent option for kids! Definitely not somewhere I would go with my peers but it was great when I went with my church youth group kids. Majority of the rides are ones that spin so if you get nauseous easily I would avoid getting on. My favorite ride was the Wooden Warrior. It is the closest thing you’ll get to an «adult» ride.
One of the great things about Quassy is that you can bring your own food so you don’t spend fortunes at the park. Also, the beach area is such a great option for people to swim and have fun (although I am pretty confident that there are some people who decide to urinate in the water…)!
Bring your kids for a great time! I guarantee they’ll enjoy it!

A great, old fashioned amusement center, small water park and a nice mild-​mannered lake. Old style fun, without the major theme park head aches. The water park is compact but just right for smaller kids. The coaster is understated, but great fun. Most of the rides fall into the category of being flat rides (portable) or B-​level thrills. But for subteens, without any real lines to endure, they’re perfect. The beach with lake can be crowded, but it’s a good fresh water experience on a hot day. Parking packs a punch, $ 7 per visit, but the lot is small and its easy to find a space when you arrive, and your car when you try to leave. Souvenir cup drink specials are available.
There is no admission charge for the park, just for the rides and to enter the water park. So parents can enter with the kids and not pay through the nose for rides they don’t care to participate in. Single ride tickets are also available to join the kids for a special thrill. Changing rooms are handy, but the curtains are a bit shorter than the doorway. Looking at the Groupons looks like a bad deal, I avoided it. I’ve seen discount tickets at Costco in the past, they may have some at BJs, but entry is less than $ 27, so it’s not exactly a punch in the nose. Lots of natural shade for a hot day.
In short, this is a great intro park for kids that are not ready for a full blown Six Flags experience. It’s also a great place to get seasons passes to keep the kids cool all summer long in the splash park or the lake. Might not play well for teens that want top dollar thrill rides and coasters, but even they will enjoy a quick visit that doesn’t hose you for a full day, hour long lines or million dollar food.

Great place for a young family.
This was a great first experience at an amusement park for our 2 and 3 year old children.
The park was clean. There were family restrooms and changing areas all over the park.
Great assortment of rides for younger kids, and several for older kids/​adults. The water park area also has something for every age. There is the Saturation Station, slides, splash pad, and beach area on the lake. Lockers are available for a fee. there are cabana rentals which were very nice. They have a locking safe and fridge in each cabana.
You can opt for a tons of different packages or walk right in for free as well. They still offer tickets to ride individual rides, bracelets for just the rides or the water area, etc.
The nicest perk is you can bring in your own coolers and pack a lunch!
The staff was very friendly and ride operators helped any kid who was nervous or upset.
We bought a Groupon for this, and had no issues with the package we received! Saved a few bucks over Quassy’s list price and got some extra goodies.

I went here for a school field trip it’s fun and they put more cool rides, the waterpark is not as fun as the rest of the park, there’s also little kid rides and the roller coaster is not long at all. So I would say that it’s fun for a little thing to do but it wouldn’t take the whole day and it’s nothing like 6 flags, but it’s fun for some people but it wouldn’t be fun for teens.

I typically love this park for our kids and we come back every year. One strong note is that DO NOT BUY ON GROUPON!!! I bought the 2 tix deal for a weekend day and was supposed to include:
Two all-​day ride and Splash Away Bay passes ($ 53 value)
Two souvenir soda cups ($ 13.50 value)
Two jumbo cotton candies ($ 13.50 value)
And what we got were small plastic drink cups (McDonalds medium size that you might see at rest stop on highway) that they claim are what I paid for. 2 for $ 13.50 would mean that Groupon sold me those regular medium size cups with sugar water for $ 6.75? Then they lied and said that they ran out of the souvenir cups. Then another customer got the big twisty one because she was a season pass member. Those cups are noted as being $ 6.75 by the way.
It was the little things that had no customer relations value that pissed me off over the weekend. Mostly at the Quassy Restaurant. Then all the young Quassy staff that were standing in lines for rides… one who ended up throwing up on one of the new rides that shut down a ride for 30+ minutes. Are you here to work or to play during your work and clogging up the lines.
Quassy restaurant food order lines was a total chaos. There were no real lines there but my poor hotdog just sat on the kitchen counter for 10 minutes or so — until I asked someone to hand it to me, please.
Who is managing the park here? The bumper car guy was waiting to fill all the cars before starting the rides. So the kids are sitting in the cars the waiting more people to show up…
I hope that this was just an off-​day thing. And get it together with your Groupon. What a slimy deal. What mean kitchen guy at the Restaurant. What terribly unfocused young staff. They are eating the Nachos with their fingers from the serving counter with their fingers while also serving food. OMG! That is also when the Quassy staff girl threw up all over the ride that faces the Nacho stand. OMG!

I had a lot of fun here with my nieces and my sister. My niece and I had so much fun running around like big kids from the dry park to the water park all day long. This amusement park isn’t huge at all. It is the perfect size for a nice family outing with children that aren’t over 16 yet.
The Amusement Park: There are a few good classic rides here.
The Music fest is a classic ride. The music was good and it was fun going backward and forward on this ride.
The Free fall ride was fun especially because the drops are extremely unexpected and the ride operator Zach is really cool too.
The Wooden warrior is the only roller coaster and it is 1:06 of fun. With one big drop and a wooden frame it was all we needed.
The Pirate ship was just as fun today as it was when I was a kid.
The one ride that I didn’t like was the swings, it just didn’t seem safe enough for me.
The Water Park: Beware of the Bucket!!!
The water park was nice. There were 7 water slides, 5 for big people and 2 for children. The water is freezing cold!!!
The body slides have ridges in them that WILL scratch your back, be careful. The line for the body slides next to the tube slide is the fastest.
The line for the slide with the tubes seems long but, it moves quickly. The tube slide is fun but watch out the water is rough.
The red and yellow body slides have two separate lines, but they are both the same slide, one is dark and one is light.
The children’s slides are nice but, while waiting in line you will be drenched continuously with cold water.
The Bucket, it’s huge, it takes about 2 min to fill up and then it dumps! Be careful, the water is dumped out fast and with force.
The water play area in the center for the kids is nice but the water is too cold.
Overall, I had a great time with the family at this amusement park. We had the Groupon deal and it was great! The only issue that we had was the summer camp kids there on a day trip making the lines a bit longer than usual.

My family planned a weekend getaway to this park. The ticket prices per person are not too high. We actually found a groupon for this place. $ 79 for four and four souvenir cups. Not bad at all. This groupon gave us an all day entrance and we were able to ride in all the rides.
The lake was awesome. The water was clear, clean and not too deep for the small kids.
The park is small but you don’t feel that you’re overcrowded. It’s clean as can be. The staff is friendly too. They have pedal boat rentals for two or four person from about $ 11-​$ 24. And an arcade room.
We would definitely come back to this park.

We took our 3-​year-​old daughter here this weekend for her first amusement park experience. It was our first visit as well. We were very pleased with the experience. You can buy tickets for the rides, but most everyone, ourselves included, goes with the all-​inclusive wristband option, which is only about $ 25 for adults and $ 20 for kids AND includes the beach/​water park area. It’s a good deal if you’re going to spend several hours there, which we did. There was also a parking fee, $ 6 I think.
We found this to be a very nice day trip for a family with a small child. There was a large number of rides/​attractions suitable for the little ones, including a mini roller coaster, a gorgeous carousel, a train ride, several of the «vehicles going around in a circle» variety, and a couple of playscapes (which are *free* so without wristband you wouldn’t have to use tickets for those). For the bigger kids and grown-​ups there is a large wooden coaster, a music express, bumper cars, and some other rides. For us we were just there for the kid so I didnt pay too much attention to these.
The beach/​water park area consists of a roped in area of the lake to swim in, a splash pad, a saturation station (larger water play area with water guns, etc), and a couple of smallish big kid/​adult water slides. We only used the lake on our trip but since it was included in our wristbands it was fine and we enjoyed it. If you wanted to you can opt to only pay for the beach/​waterpark for a lesser amount.
Our only compliant was the price of concessions, which seemed high even by amusement park standards. We did not get a meal, just some snacks, but the cost was prohibitive and we didn’t get all that we wanted to. However, there is no entrace gate/​security shake-​down so you can bring in any food or beverages you like, and I saw many families with large coolers. So we know next time to bring our own, especially if our visit will include a meal.
Quassy is the low key, simple-​fun amusement park of the old days, and the lakefront location makes it a little more charming. The obvious comparison is to Lake Compounce, which is both larger with more attractions and more expensive. My advice might be to stick with Quassy for your littlest ones and perhaps «graduate» to Compounce as they get older. For at least the next couple of years, we’ll be at Quassy and loving it!

Went here recently and had an awesome time! I was probably enjoying it more than the kids who came with me! We showed up early and there were very few long lines for rides. The park is much smaller than Lake Compounce but cheaper, less busy, and still fun! The only complaint I have is that it’s so far from where I live!

Perfect for kids! I love that it’s small, but has all the essential rides and snacks, not too crowded and affordable. Mon & weds is bargain and it s $ 20.50 per person for the whole park and water park. You also have the option to buy tickets for rides. You can see you car from almost anywhere in the park, so its easy to go back to your car as many times as needed.
I brought my toddler and this was perfect! she loved the water park! there are areas for babies, kids, and grown up sized rides too. All right on the water, small beach. good times!

Allow me to help you manage some of your expectations of Quassy Amusement & Waterpark…
As some other reviewers have mentioned, Quassy is not some huge theme park with all the bells and whistles. Quassy is a very old, and relatively small amusement park that is geared towards younger kids (3 to 10 year olds). Fortunately, the park offers some limited fun for parents as well. It certainly is not a 5-​star venue as far as Unilocal standards go, and it certainly doesn’t warrant 1 or 2 star ratings either.
Yes, some of the rides are antiquated, and may give some parents pause to let their kids on board. As a concerned parent, I’ve always given Quassy’s management/​maintenance the benefit of the doubt, and have never heard of an issue. The waterpark is a nice addition, provided you’re not visiting too early, or late in the season. The wind coming off the lake at those times can be a deal breaker.
The majority of the park’s staff is comprised of local teens that become easily bored with what originally looked like a fun summer job. Again, it was reassuring to see management keeping on top of them all, and making sure they were getting things done for the most part.
Yes, the park can definitely be kept cleaner. However, I fully understand that it takes a great deal of time, money and man power to operate and maintain even a smaller-​scale operation such as this. I also understand that Quassy isn’t operating on the same scope and scale as Disney, so I’m OK when I see that everything isn’t kept all new and shiny by the local, seasonal help.
Bottom line: Quassy is a comparatively inexpensive venue that families have been enjoying for decades. For parents with little ones, it’s a pretty decent choice for family fun in the summertime. Another important thing to mention is that Quassy often hosts special events like regional chili cook-​offs, vintage car shows and Oktoberfest celebrations which can be a fun time for adults as well.
BTW, if you’re health-​conscience in the least, you’ll probably want to bring your own food, drinks and snacks.

I Have been to this amusement park hundreds of times. And every time it keeps getting more fun. I miss the mad mouse, but the wooden warrior is much better. The prices are also awesome, you cannot beat them, they are too good.
This year, they added two new body slides and one new bullet ball slide to the water park And renamed it splash away Bay It made it 10 times better, although the green side hurt my back but that was a coincidence.
If you’re looking for a drastic vacation with her family, I would not come here, but if you looking for one day of fun, I would recommend it in a second. I would come back any day any time during the season.

We took our adult kids and two young grandsons to this park on the Fourth of July. We chose it because it is rated as geared toward young kids, and found this to be true. The ride selection is wonderful and includes many classic fair rides like the umbrella ride, tilt-​a-​whirl, teacups, etc. There is only one wooden roller coaster, and it looks pretty tame. The cost of admission is worth it for these rides alone.
The water park is also very nice, but has a few drawbacks. The water slides don’t empty into pools, so the attendants won’t let riders start at the top until the previous rider is out at the bottom. This makes for very long lines on busy days. We had a 15 minute wait for each water slide. The beach and swimming area are nice, but small for busy days like our visit. If you want to take advantage of the water park, pick a weekday to get the most for your money.
We took a picnic lunch and were able to leave it in the car while we rode rides, because the parking is close by and it is easy to go back and forth to the car to retrieve things. This is a big plus in my book. Overall we really enjoyed the day, the park workers were very pleasant and helpful, and we would definitely go back with small children again.

Let me start off by saying that if you are looking for a big-​name theme park with monstrous thrill rides and lines that curve around the block so bad you actually cave in and buy that Fast-​Pass line-​skipping scheme they’re selling nowadays, Quassy ain’t for you. Not that there’s anything wrong with the big-​name parks; they have their charm and so does Quassy. Moving on…
Quassy is an amazing little park; it has everything necessary to ensure a fantastic time with family and friends from tons of rides for adults and kids, to their amazing water slides to an ample beach area with loads of reclining chairs, sand and paddle boats. There’s even a great lil’ arcade, a small stage for music or magic shows, benches EVERYWHERE for folks who need to take a rest, and LOTS of banquet space for events. I went to Quassy today with my S.O. and here are some of the things we really loved:
–The Wooden Warrior: this is Quassy’s shining star coaster; the airtime you get on this ride is unbelievable and any coaster lover worth their salt should definitely give it a try. We rode this one THREE times today!
–The Bullet Bowl water slide: FUN x 10!!! We rode this one twice on a double inner-​tube and it was just fantastic. The water is a bit chilly, which is great for those scorching summer days.
–Freefall Body Slides: another awesome part of their water park, the body slides are a great way to cool off and incorporate a lil’ competitive streak to your experience (think «dueling slides»).
–Customer service: absolutely everyone working at Quassy was super nice and welcoming. Fun fact: I had my car key in my pocket when I rode the body slide and it slipped out at the end. I brought it to the attention of the lifeguard who then let her manager know. The manager assured me that if nothing came up upon checking the slide trough, that I could check at the front office at the end of the day. Happily enough, I didn’t need to; Mr. Manager dug through the trough, found the key and graciously returned it to me. He took what could have been a very stressful situation and made it a happy one. How great is that?
–The view of Lake Quassapaug (a.k.a. the beach) is simply gorgeous!
–The picnic area is right off of the parking lot and provides a nice, shady place for guests to eat their own lunch or barbecue right on the spot.
–The price tag: $ 24.50 for an unlimited-​access wristband and $ 6.00 for parking? That’s heaven-​sent!
All in all, you’re guaranteed a lovely time at Quassy among friends and family. I will definitely be returning with family in the near future and I can’t wait to ride the Wooden Warrior again, try out some of the game stations and the arcade and maybe even a paddle boat ride! Definitely a day well-​spent! :)

Perfect little amusement park for families with younger kids. I think teens would get bored pretty quickly, but if you have younger kids, the place is small enough for comfort, although the rides are pretty limited for the younger ones who enjoy rides. Water park is decent enough, the beach is clean.
The food is expensive and not that great, you can bring in a picnic or even some pizzas as they have plenty of tables.
You only have to pay if you ride the rides or go into the water park, which makes it great for families.
Good for the tween set, they can wander about on their own and they are never too far from you. Gives them a sense of independence and if it is not crowded, you can probably see them pretty easily.
The new roller coaster is great. Fast, lots of curves and dips. Cars are nicely padded so you don’t get beat up.
