History

Established in 1994.

AJ Sterling & Associates was founded in 1994 by John Johnston, a licensed private investigator who currently has over 25 years of industry experience. Prior to founding the company, John served as president of Mutual Investigations. During his time as president from 1986 to 1994, Mutual Investigations became the premier investigative agency in the northeastern United States, employing over 50 investigators and holding licenses in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.

When John left Mutual in 1994 to start his own new agency, he had a vision of creating a highly personalized detective agency that specialized in matrimonial and infidelity investigations. This was a far cry from the «one size fits all» investigative approach of the large, full-​service detective agencies at the time.
