Americana Diner & Restaurant

I go there often & have Always had a great experience… HOWEVER NOT THIS TIME. My mother & step-​father was there. My mother has Alzheimers. and carries a small bottle of Lipton ice tea with her EVERYWHERE she goes. She has a phobia with drinking from ANY CUP ANYWHERE. it’s part of her Alzheimers disease. she also has very low humming. So you can tell that something is wrong with her, by looking at her… WELL. they were told No outside food or drinks allowed. My step father explained the situation. And they told him. those were the rules. (after they already sat down).he again explained why she has the tea, They were then told if they didn’t like it they can leave, and they did… WELL. I WILL NO LONGER be frequenting this diner and neither will anyone in my family or friends that support Alzheimers… Shame on You!!!

Best breakfast I’ve ever had. Apple crepes and corn beef hash. Best price too. So affordable.

Hands down my favorite diner!!! The staff in the morning is so friendly. The food is great, breakfast time is my favorite time; huge portions and always tastes good. I can’t wait to come back, thank you ;)

Huge portions. The food is good and so are the desserts. The younger girls that seat people are always super nice and hospitable.

Angela is the best server at this restaurant and we will wait to sit in her section. Orders are always accurate and cooked to perfection but it’s Angela’s friendliness and professionalism that has us coming back time and time again. So glad we found her and hope she continues to be here for a long time to come. She’s simply excellent.

I dined here this past Saturday with my girlfriend, my first trip into Middletown since my childhood, I’m from NYC and I also work in the restaurant industry and I have dined into countless restaurants, diners, food truck, street side vendor etc where the hospitality service wasn’t so piss poor. Truth be told initially I figured that dining in a non NYC establishment I would find must less inept waiter or waitress service as I never had issues in similar places like Middletown. Stupid me!!! Of course in every restaurant diners, customers, clientele whatever you wanna call it, will either be left satisfied or unsatisfied. In my case I was unsatisfied, though I must say for the record Ambiance wise and food wise it was quality, the food was good both for me and for my girlfriend’s except her steak as she told me it wasn’t seasoned enough to her liking but on a busy Saturday afternoon mistakes in the kitchen is inevitable.
However the reason why I give this restaurant 2 stars is because the waitress at our table made my girlfriend and I very uneasy, I get that on a Saturday afternoon its going to be busy (in fact my girlfriend and I had to wait a while to finally be seated and while we were seated we both saw scores of patrons waiting to be seated themselves) we both understood that and either way we both had to go (unbeknownst to anyone). But the waitress thought otherwise, as the moment we sat the waitress pursued to rush us to order, like my girlfriend and I have yet to look at the menu nor to take our jackets off completely. After another two attempts in the space of a minute and a half to get us to order we decided to finally order. At one point when she was jotting down our order I noticed the waitress gave us a very scary look like one of those «F» off look, then quickly change her facial tone when she saw that I was looking dead at her.
The food took longer than usual but under the circumstances with a full house I totally understand, once my girlfriend and I got our food we tried to eat as much as we had to go, and as I have stated before the food was good and the atmosphere, that is good and I hope Americana will continue to make top notch food and keep their loyal fan base. Huge portions at very decent price. Anyways I kindly ask the waitress to package both our meals to go and she walked off before i can finish my sentence, I was bemused for a while thinking wtf, about 3 – 4 minutes later she returned with two to go containers and a bag plus the bill, then go on to state have a good day. My girlfriend and I had to package our meals into the to go container ourselves, I never ever ever seen that before. Also unless she is physic she couldn’t possibly know my girlfriend and my intentions to leave early, maybe we wanted coffee before we leave etc but because we were in a rush I opted to just leave.
After that I went to the cashier to pay, during that time the waitress was happily conversing with a guy whether he is an employee at the restaurant or not, aint none of my business, not my prerogative at all. I was thinking that the Restaurant still busy and all with volumes of customers coming in how does she have time to be having herself a little chat instead of working. I decided to not tip this waitress as it made no sense to do so, we felt rushed, twice we were shown a stink face, nobody lets a customers package their own food to go. Even though Americana aint a Michelin star restaurant in the upper east side of Manhattan, as a waiter/​waitress hospitality still counts big time. I tip everybody because a just over 6 years ago my senior year in high school I was a waiter myself and I remember not getting a token of appreciation of my services to a customer. Even the cashier showed a bit of dissatisfaction towards me for not tipping the waitress. I wouldn’t discourage anyone to stop dine here because again the food is quality but the bosses need to hire happier waitresses.

I usually come here and I enjoy myself. But of course not all restaurants are perfect. Today I was appalled by Americana Diners service. I was very much disappointed. To begin the worst part of my evening was there was hair in the food multiple times and they waitress took forever to come to us. The place wasn’t even full. Most of my orders were wrong. I was dispirited about my evening and I don’t contemplate on returning to that diner again sadly.

The portions at this place are so big, very generous. I come in quite often for breakfast and lunch. I can’t really complain.

Just had breakfast here this morning after deciding to venture out from our usual trip to Perkins down the road. The selection is standard diner fare and the food was acceptable (i.e. prepared correctly, but not outstanding). The big issue I had was with the service, which was the main driver of my 2 rating. Our waitress was brusque and inattentive, forgetting several things and then blaming it on the restaurant being busy. Normally I’d be understanding, but she was extremely attentive to some obvious regulars on one side of our table. Then, she would pass by to go chat with the regulars on the other side of us for a while. As a result, we felt invisible and almost an annoyance to our waitress.
It wasn’t a terrible experience, but it wasn’t as good as Perkins or the Colonial diner on the other side of town,. The cashier was pleasant, but didn’t ask us about our meal as most places do, so they seem very comfortable. My conclusion? Based on their stolid overall rating it appears that they have a set of happy repeat customers and have forgotten what it’s like to be ‘hungry’ for new business. I completely agree with treating your regular customers well, but I hope the management realizes that every regular was once a first-​timer who had a pleasant experience and decided to come back.
So, all in all it wasn’t great but it wasn’t a disaster either. To be fair I’ll give them another try some day in the future to see if this was an isolated experience.

Server went out of her way to be offensively rude. A miserable experience plus mediocre food.

This place is always hoppin’. The Louisiana Chicken salad is excellent. Huge portion. You’ll have 3 meals from it. Nachos and gyros are amazing also. Even with an extensive menu they manage to be quick and everything is fresh. I like that the temperature inside is cooler. Other restaurants get so hot. I’m sensitive to heat due to ‘the change’ so that’s important to me.

First Time here. i Had Breakfast This Morning. It was great. Place is packed. everyone at my table liked there food.8 people $ 80 bucks not bad price! I will be back again

Not family friendly, no baby changing station. Server never came back to our table to ask how our meal was or if we needed anything like bev refills. We sat and waited for a check but our server never returned. We paid up front and the man was rude, didn’t ask how everything was or have a nice day, no eye contact. I would not go back or recommend this place. NO STARS!!!

We’ve gone here a few times now and so far the food has been good and the servers friendly. The prices are great for the amount of food you get.

We don’t really have diners in Florida. So I was really excited to try this one. Seriously fell in love!!! So much food for such a low price. I had a burger and fries it was delicious and I had leftovers for the next day. And the kids meal was HUGE! Can’t wait to visit ny again so I can stop here for dinner again :)

Best diner around. Everyone is really friendly, food is really good and the checks are pretty low. Can’t go wrong with that. It can be packed though so if the parking is spilling into the neighboring lot be prepared to possibly wait.
