Baldwin Lawn Furniture

I ordered a very expensive custom pergola from this company ($ 12,000). They were great to work with at the start and promised me everything would go smoothly and that they would be a great company to work with. As soon as I ordered and paid for the custom built pergola, it all went downhill. Max Baldwin (the owner) was very rude and nasty to me on the phone when I called to question costs never mentioned when I ordered/​purchased the pergola from them. I later had to leave multiple messages with him over several days to get him to return my phone calls. Later, he actually refused to talk to me and had another employee return my calls (even though he had given me his personal cell phone number if I had questions). The pergola arrived packaged very poorly. Even the delivery driver commented that it looked like it was packed using old recycled barn wood. Needless to say, the pergola required Bondo and paint to repair damage from shipping and the way it was originally poorly packed. When installation took place, I hired a licensed contractor to help me install it and he could not believe how poorly the directions were written and how poorly some of the components were manufactured. We had to improvise the installation for some very poorly manufactured pieces and try to make sense of what we could with the poorly written instructions. Some items of hardware included in the kit were simply never mentioned in the instructions at all! This is a terrible company to work with (as my wife and neighbors well know from all my complaining about it)!!! There are plenty of other companies that make custom fiberglass pergolas. Do yourself a favor and avoid this company at all cost. You will save yourself a lot of headache and money. There is nowhere to buy wooden outdoor furniture of the same quality and for the same price. Nowhere!
I own at least 8 pieces of Baldwin lawn furniture: two picnic tables with benches, a loveseat, two gorgeous adirondack chairs and a couple of other misc. tables and chairs by the pool. This furniture is so sturdy and dependable — and the design is fabulous! Check out their website, or sit in the furniture in person at North Cove Outfitters in Old Saybrook or at Baldwin in Middletown. You will be 100% sold. Our pieces have weathered wonderfully, and we leave them out year round. In the spring we pull them into the driveway one day and give them a good wash and put a quick restain on them. This is MINIMAL work, I assure you. And the furniture receives compliments from our guests year after year.
One last thing: one of my dogs ate the arm from one of the chairs one year. Baldwin said they would GLADLY sell me a new arm (I still haven’t replaced it — thinking I wanted to be sure the dog was through with chewing!). ALL IS NOT LOST!
This is a great family company with a great product. GREAT!
