History

Established in 1964.

Campbell’s Hardware bought into the Ace Hardware franchise in 1964. It was purchased by Fred White in 1969 and has been family owned an operated since then. Gregory White took over the business in 1996, and continues to oversee Ace Hardware & Sports today.

Gregory L. White graduated from Western Michigan University in 1972 majoring in mathematics. He then served in the US Navy for 3 years before returning to his home town of Midland. He has worked at Ace ever since.

The helpful hardware man for sure. I had been trying to replace a thirty year old 10-​pump bb gun with scope. Bought an «American Made» Crossman 760 at Gander. A real piece of garbage with too many problems to name here so I returned it. Gander ordered me a different gun and it was not as ordered. I did not buy it and did not want to wait in their store for another 1+ hrs to try and order again.
had what I wanted. I tried to order online and Mich law does not allow orders to home or to store by an individual. Went to Walmart and they said they could only order what their store normally carries. The Ace guy ordered in and it arrived in 3 days. $ 80 instead of $ 76 at
. When I went to pick it up the Ace employee had also mounted and laser sited the scope for me. Service does not get any better than that. I will be making a point to take more of my business there. Also, the Daisy Duckmaster is a really great gun.

Has everything you’d need, but very pricey. Needed a couple of small bolts, and nuts, they wanted to charge .50 for each nut and bolt. Went to another HW store and bought the same thing for .08 cents a piece. I know, your going to say «cheap skate», but it was the principle. I don’t like being ripped off for anything.
Another time I went there to buy a Rubber Maid heavy duty garbage can. 48 dollars. I took it to the counter to pay for it and the cashier racked up 66 dollars. I said «what the …» She said the can was 48 and the lid was 18… I said forget it. Went to Lowes and bought the exact same thing for 39 dollars lid and can.
That said, this store is handy for that hard to find item.

My only complaint would be there is so many staff its hard to see the merchandise. Just kidding. They have what you’re looking for, stuff the big guys don’t carry. Probably cost you more than the big stores but they’ve got everything and the guys there will find it for you. A Midland institution on Main Street. Agree with previous reviewers.

This store has about 95% of what you would ever want in the areas of: hardware, tools, glass, screens, guns, fishing tackle, grills and supplies,.repair services, housewares, and on and on.
Helpful and knowledgeable staff. Everyone is friendly as well.
A truly nice place to shop.
