Carmike Ovation 10

Food was good — nice menu. Went with a friend and we sat at the bar first since our theatre wasn’t ready yet. Service was good. My only ‘meh’ was the musty smell of the building — not overpowering, but it’s there. Maybe lose the carpets?

Maybe my expectations were too high, but Ovation disappointed me. The movie was fine, of course, but the service was terrible. We pressed the service button and nicely asked for a refill on our drinks. That was maybe halfway through our movie. We never got them. The food was decent, despite a somewhat small set of choices. I won’t be rushing back.

I have been to Ovation a couple of times and each time was very enjoyable. The only thing that I would change is the breakfast menu. Breakfast and a movie is a blast with my kids. But better selection for breakfast would give it 5 stars!!!

Food was good they messed up my drink order and I over heard another customer say they waited for a very long time for their silverware for their food. When we called they took a long time to answer but my over all experience was great

we had a great experience here… however for the sake of possibly improving it, i’m going to do a pro/​con.
con:
cleanliness…there were wrappers in the cupholder from the previous moviegoers.
promptness…our food came quickly, but we waited about 10min for our drinks (sodas, not bar drinks).
space…we went at a not-​prime time, so there was plenty of room, but if we were there fri/​sat evening or for an opening night, it would have been uncomfortably snug.
pro:
comfort…the seats were comfy. the high back is nice for feeling some privacy.
price…the ticket and the food were so afordable! we’re vegan, so we got fries and two sodas for $ 13.00, which is even less than at a typical theater.
convenience…food, drinks, refills to your seat? oh yes, please!

Love this place if you’ve ever been to a movie theater where they serve food then you probably know they charge you an arm and a leg to watch movies but this place is reasonably price the food tastes great and service has been pretty decent no problem! Definitely the best movie theater in the Richmond area!

We’ve been there several times now and thought our experiences could have been better. Although this last time takes the cake. The food prep is clearly terrible. We’ve tried the «flat bread» cracker pizza, wraps, fries, the wings, and some other menu items and all were horribly prepared. The food quality there is significantly less than the nearest fast food place. But really, we’ve never had a great food experience at Ovation. So, this time, we get things one couldn’t possibly screw up… Well, they screwed up. Big time. Boneless chicken wings that tasted like old TGI Fridays frozen box wings from the grocery store covered with cheap cold buffalo sauce. Popcorn! Who can mess up popcorn? They did. It was overpriced, cold, oily, over cooked, made with fake butter, and was no where near what I had expected from a movie theater. This food is horrible and Ovation should be ashamed that they are giving such a low quality product to their patrons. Now, let me get into the fun part. My wife and I got food poisoning from this place. Not sure how you get food poisoning from precooked buffalo wings and popcorn but it happened. If the kitchen staff is as careless and unknowledgeable as almost every employee we’ve had the pleasure of rolling our eyes at, this place is doomed to fail.
Ovation: Train your staff on food preparation and food safety! Or you could just close down your crappy kitchen and hire McDonalds to take its place. I think you’d be doing everyone a big favor.
Overall Review: Go there for the cheap movie tickets and lackluster experience for movies. Not the food or the service.

Ovations’ is one of the best places in Richmond for my wife and I to watch a movie, for the following reasons:
1. Assigned seating, you do not have to fight the lines to get a decent seat, but you must get your tickets prior to arriving if you are picky like me.
2. You can order your meal at any time (up to 30 minutes before the end of the movie), it’s as simple as pressing the service button and Le voilà ! dinner is serve.
3. Sofa like seating, extremely comfortable.
4. Good food, not «être bouche bée» by the menu selection, but good eating.
5. Great sound system.

If you are looking to see a movie and enjoy good food this is the place for you!
Movie: you pick your seat when you buy your tickets. It is a good idea to use fandango especially for your more popular movies (keep your confirmation number handy you need it to redeem your tickets.
Food and drink: you order from your seat once you are ready. I have experienced everything from the wings to the quesadillas (avoid the mac n cheese — it’s not worth it). If you want alcohol arrive a hint early to get your wrist band from the lobby bar.
Other thoughts… It’s a great spot for dates and hanging out.

I wasn’t blown away by this place. I feel like the seats were pretty uncomfortable. The food was decent but not amazing. Drinks were fine. I just wasn’t very wowed with anything.

The tickets were competitively priced «bargain» matinée price was $ 7. The atrium and auditorium were clean, as were the restrooms. Food was nothing exceptional (very similar to Chilis) but priced accordingly.
The caveat was the customer service. To be frank it was horrible. We didn’t receive our menus after two requests. I ordered a cocktail and was chided for not knowing I needed a «bar bracelet». I’ll go back and order food but I will drastically lower my expectations of the staff.

Finally got to go see the new Star Wars movie. The renovated theater was a good choice. The experience as a whole was good. You should arrive early if you plan on drinking. You need to get a wrist band and the bartenders were swamped.
Theater was nice and new looking. Clean as well. The comfortable chairs were a great addition. One downfall is that they don’t lounge. But I’m sure it is so the servers can get by without hitting you.
In order to be served drinks we had to go to the bar and have someone check our ID and give us a wrist band. There were 2 bartenders at the time. They had plenty of people at the bar. They were also making drinks for all of the people in the theaters. So it did take some time.
Ordered a bowl of popcorn. They had free refills. I don’t even know hoe much it cost. We did get 2 glasses of wine. They were $ 9 a piece. And they did not have a heavy pour. So movie is a little less expensive but the drinks are more expensive.
The servers were quick and polite. But give yourself some time before the show to get settled and get your order in before the movie starts.

I was told about this place by a coworker. It is a cheaper version of Cinebistro.
It cost $ 10 for a ticket to see Star Wars in 3D. Then the food was reasonably priced for a movie theater. You order food at your seat and eat/​drink while you watch the movie. There is loads of leg room and the seats are comfortable. It is reserved seating and you pick your seat online when you book.
The service is so-​so, but what you expect from school kids. They could probably do with an experienced ops manager to add some «polish» to the service.
Other than that we were very happy with the overall experience and price. We will definitely be back. Cinebistro is a good date spot, but expensive and hard to get tickets due to the limited nunber of seats. Ovation 10 is much easier to get tickets and good seats.

(First time and did not disappoint)
–Went here to watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens on the 22^nd of December, and not on opening night because I didn’t want to line up and wanted to be comfortable while watching.
–Bought and reserved a ticket at Fandango to make sure I got a seat and easily got through the register quickly. Only complaint was that there was only one cashier so the line piled up fast but is understandable because it wasn’t too busy at the time.
–The ticket person was very courteous and told me the room was not ready yet and he personally called on me in the lobby when it was ready. There is also a tv screen indicating if the room is allowed seating yet which is very convenient
–The seats are very comfortable and the side table to the right folds out to give you space for your orders. There are two buttons on the right which you can press for either «SERVICE» to call a server, and «LIGHT», to be able to see the menu.
–The Server who took my order was very courteous also and glady explained how everything works and the process at the theatre. He was very polite and always made sure my order was done right.
–Menu was amazing but was not able to try a lot since I went for the traditional bowl of popcorn and water. The bowl of popcorn for around 7 $ was worth it because it was refillable at anytime and the bowl was huge.
(In Conclusion)
–Carmike Ovation is an amazing concept and I was a bit skeptical at first on how the service will work but ended up being satisfied and had a great viewing experience. I highly suggest it for any movie buffs out there who would like to take their movie experience to the next level.

Been here 1 time. It is a cheaper version of cinebistro as many have said.

Note…they do serve alcohol but i did not have any so unsure of the quality and variety.
Worth a try!

I really enjoyed my first experience at a cine-​bistro styled theater. Very accommodating, friendly and overall an awesome place to dine and watch movies. I do like the spacious seating but I wish the quality of food was much better. My mac and cheese was way too ‘cheesy’ and wasn’t baked enough. The bottomless popcorn was awesome though!

When they first opened they got some bad reviews and rightfully so. They weren’t prepared to do this right.
However, we have been again in the past month and they did a great job. Service was very good and food came out warm and was actually very good.
If you tried it and had a bad experience may be time to go back as I think they have worked out the wrinkles.
If you haven’t tried it — no reason not to. Prices are no more expensive then any other theater (actually I think a little cheaper overall then Regal). Great atmosphere very much like CinaBistro but with kids allowed, making going more flexible.

— the kitchen is awkwardly located near the theater entrance and the staff are all hanging around the kitchen door waiting for the orders.
I’d go back but not for the food!!!

The fiancé and I frequent cinebistro whenever a groupon deal comes up for movie tickets. After hearing about this place we figured that we’d check it out.
This is a great affordable alternative to cinebistro, much more laid back both with the service and the food options.
Service is available throughout the movie which can be distracting, but didn’t bother us. Staff is young, so don’t expect stellar service but they do try. We didn’t get a full meal here, but The Duke sandwich was excellent. Tasted fresh and huge portions.
We will definitely return due to the value here! Just hope they can refine and learn from missteps as they mature.

Visited this place recently after wanting to check it out for a while. A friend works here and he was saying how awesome it was, so my fiancé and I decided to give it a try. Warning, there will be much comparison to CineBistro in this review as it’s the benchmark that Carmike will be judged by.
First of all, I love how they have service throughout much of the movie. Want a refill on your drink or another order of fries? Just press the call button at your seat and a waiter will com to you. Yes, this can be distracting but it’s so convenient. CineBistro gives you 30 minutes prior to showtime and a few minutes into the trailers to order your food and drinks. Which means you have to order EVERYTHING at that time: your appetizers, entrée, and dessert will all be brought out at the same time. If you miss that window, you’re stuck having to order at the bar and then having to go back out to the bar later to pick up your order thus risking missing the movie. Alas, it’s your own fault for being so late.
They also have the Coke Freestyle machine which means you can get virtually any flavor of Coke-​branded soda. Big plus in my eyes.
The food is pretty inexpensive compared to CineBistro, but you get what you pay for. It has a bar and grill vibe with the type of dishes served. Some things taste better than others (avoid the mac ‘n cheese at all costs!) but you won’t feel like you’ve been robbed when you walk out of here. Plus, the portion sizes are HUGE! You get your money’s worth and then some.
My biggest issue, and the reason I probably won’t be back, is the seats. They’re so uncomfortable. Very narrow and way too close together. Your neighbor’s tray table is RIGHT THERE so if you get up during the movie, you run the risk of knocking over the stuff on the table of the person on your left. Clearly this was done to cram as many seats as possible in the space since they downgraded the number of rows and seats during the renovation.
If you have kids, I’d say take them. They might like it. For now, I still prefer CineBistro although I’m secretly hoping that CineBistro takes a page out of Carmike’s book and extends table service past that the 30 minute window.
