Yosemite West / Mariposa KOA

Beware… Worst owner of any campground I have ever visited. They are scam artists who write down your credit card info and key-​in fraudulent charges. I have two open disputes with Discover Card right now! They are rude, overpriced and literally could care less. They know they have a goldmine because of they’re close (still took an hour…) to Yosemite, and only see you as a dollar sign. The sites are very small and stacked on top of each other up the side of the hill. Don’t dare question anything, such as the two dead mice in the pool, or the attitudes come flying out! Run, run quickly to the next campground. Just read the rest of the reviews before staying here… You’ll thank us later!

We have been going to different KOA and this one is the worst among all. The staffs are very unfriendly. They would not say «Good morning» or even «Hi». They would stare at you and wait for you to say something. We asked if we could park second car in front of our cabin. The lady replied that we could if we rent another site. How rude is it!
The light was suddenly off while I was taking shower. It was completely dark in the restroom. Later on I found out it was in timer. Once the time is up, all lights would turn off. There’s no sign posted anywhere to let people know about it.
There’re tons of mosquitoes in the area. We stayed for three days and everyone got more than ten bites. I am still itching everywhere.
I would rather spend more money to stay somewhere. Avoid this place!!!

Would have given this site 5 stars if it weren’t for our encounter with Jeff at the office. Our 3^rd day at this site we went to the office to ask a simple question and were treated with complete disrespect. Jeff was very short and rude, making it very obvious that the «tourists» are a nuisance to him. Hey Jeff, try not to make it so obvious to other people that you’re miserable when you’re trying to get a paycheck.

Beautiful, clean well kept camp site. Would definitely stay here again. If I could rate 10 stars I would! We stayed for 8 days in a pull thru with our very own trailer. It was our Honeymoon & we were so looking forward to a nice vacation. BOTH ladies in the office, Bridget & Becky, were wonderful! Very helpful & accommodating. The bathrooms are spotless! The women’s restrooms actually have hairdryers for you to use! They are cleaned every day… And yes there are assigned times told to you in advance. The laundry room is adorable and immaculate. They had a great play area for kids, a pool and a romantic swing overlooking the lake. I have to address the negative comments other people posted on this site. You get what YOU dish out. People who do not want to follow the rules are asked to leave. You are rude and disruptive to the rest of the campers in the area… no one wants to be your neighbors. There is NOTHING wrong with how these ladies treat customers. They are so nice and extremely professional and expect the same from you. Isn’t that what you teach your children? Time to practice what you preach. Whether you stay one day or 8 days, you won’t be sorry. The drive to Yosemite is about an hour, best advice is to buy a 7 day auto pass for $ 30. Paid for itself. A great suggestion given to us by Bridget. If your looking for a family friendly, clean and well maintained place to camp you can’t go wrong staying here.

If I could give 0 stars I would. This place is operated and owned by extremely racist people. They were extremely rude to us when clearly they were kind to the Caucasian people in front of us. Then the owner threatened to shoot us on the last day as we were running 5 minutes later than check out time.

Stayed here last weekend Thursday– Monday. All the reviews were mixed emotions, my family however enjoyed it very much, the facilities were clean and the campsite was perfect! I
Would totally recommend this KOA to anyone in the area, located close to Yosemite and Mariposa! The staff was very sweet as well.

Let me start by saying that I was so paranoid about staying at this KOA after reading so many negative reviews! I don’t get where they’re coming from at all!!! We just returned from a 5 day stay here with friends and it was absolutely perfect! Although we didn’t have a lot of interactions with the campground staff, the times we did were very pleasant and friendly. I can’t help but wonder if there is more to the story with the bad reviews? I have no problem recommending this place!!! We will be returning in the spring and I really look forward to another great stay at Mariposa KOA!!!

Pros:
–access to Yosemite West entrance (just under an hour)
–naturally beautiful setting with lots of trees for shade
–store with groceries, ice and camping supplies, as well as souvenirs
–onsite pizza shop (did not try) and ice cream shoppe (did try :)
–bathrooms were generally in good shape
–basic playground structure was entertaining for my kids
Cons:
–smoking seems to be allowed throughout the campground. Our cabin was downwind from the smoking spot near the store. Smoking was also permitted at the pool, which was not fun for my young boys or me.
–minor issue, but the trash can in the cabin was tiny, with no liner.
–lighting in the cabin was poor
–we found some garments from the previous cabin occupant in the corner of the cabin upon our arrival. Makes me wonder how/​if the cabins are cleaned between occupants.
–laundry room, which is well maintained and has multiple machines, was only open from 9 – 6 with a sign indicating no exceptions to those hours. This was inconvenient for us, as we wanted to spend our days offsite at Yosemite and do laundry at night when we returned.
I had read many of the reviews before going here, including the negative reviews, and did find myself walking on eggshells around the staff. While I wouldn’t recommend a «customer service» or «friendliness» award for anyone I encountered, I did not encounter any hostility either. I’d stay here again, just for the proximity to Yosemite.

We will never go here again! I highly recommend you find another option! They say the employees and their interactions with the customers make or break a business! This business is BROKEN! Every interaction we had with the staff was uncomfortable from the moment we registered, tried to use the store, or when we needed help!
The staff treats customers like an inconvenience and a burden instead of as welcomed guests.

Stayed in a deluxe cabin. Had a/​c, kitchen, shower. More than enough to stay at and keep the kids occupied between commutes to Yosemite.

After staying here for 2 night and 2 days, my friends and I have all agreed that this was — GLAMPING (glamorous camping). We drove in from LA around 1am, but thankfully, there was a stand for late night check-​ins at the main cabin. Once I checked in, I found out where my campground was and filled out the check in envelope. If you book a reservation online, they only charge you for one night and then the rest is paid the day/​night you check in. So the next morning, I checked in with an employee and they gave me a car camping sign for my car. Now for the details!
Campground: I got one of the closest tent campground to the restroom and I was really happy about that haha The spaces are all different, but since mine was a corner one, our site was huge! We could have fit four 4 person tents if we wanted to! But of course, only one car space is allowed. The tent area was sandy and had no lumpy rocks or weird crevices. It was very comfortable sleeping on the ground (with our sleeping pads).
Facility Amenities: There was a water cleanup area near our site, so we could rinse off any dirty stuff. Also, the bathroom was very nice and clean! There were about 3 or 4 bathroom stalls and then the showers were right next to the toilets. The showers had separate changing rooms and shower area, so we can place our clothes and items in the dry area. Another cute part of this campground was that there was a playground! We went out there to star gaze since the stars were so clear and bright at night! Lastly, there was free wifi! But it was spotty so it didn’t work all that well. But still it was a great surprise!
Overall: It was my first time camping by myself (as in no experienced camper to help) and my three friends. It was so easy to go camping/​glamping, that we are all so excited to do camping again in the future!

This was a beautiful campsite just an hour away from Yosemite on the 140 a very scenic drive you won’t forget. A clean camp and bathrooms compared to the Yosemite sites… yikes! Very quiet the cabins are adorable I definitely want to come back with my pets lol. Only con is there is no firepits and no campfires idk how I missed this but it sucked not having a fire while camping, that’s pretty much the point. Anyhow, the grill they provide is quite small and has no filter for ash to escape so it dies out pretty fast. Other than that, great camp. check out Pioneer Market for yummy sandwiches to eat at Yosemite as their food is way overpriced. The ladies were no trouble I hate how Unilocal can doubt my decision but no complaints here!

Stayed here over Memorial Day weekend. Camp was clean and quiet. Staff was friendly and helpful too. If I’m ever back in the area, I’ll be back.

If the «rhymes with witch» that answered the phone is your representation of customer service you will never see a dime from me.
She was repulsively unprofessional. Curmudgeons like her shouldn’t be dealing with the public.
I called to cancel our reservation and was greeted with an unfriendly tone, short answers and rude disposition. When asked to cancel she said «you won’t get a refund.» When I told her that our email confirmation never said that nor did the website we booked on. She was unresponsive for a period of time then asked if I wanted to cancel.
I asked her for the owners/​managers information and she laughed and refused to give it to me, she also refused to give them a message to call me back and told me that she was going to cancel my reservation regardless and that I can see the information in my email. then Hung up on me.
Ten minutes after she hung up on me I received a cancelation notice and was charge the first night fee.
My mother is 74 and trying to walk around in snow and freezing cold weather is not conducive to a healthy life for her. So we wanted to speak with the owner and see if they would work something out. And if we couldn’t then we would go up there and stay in the trailer all weekend, do minor things close by so we wouldn’t waste our hard earned money. However, the women refused to leave a message for the manager, wouldn’t give us the managers name or number and took it upon herself to cancel our reservation without my Consent.
The horrible customer service aside, this women acted against my wishes and charged me because of some personal vendetta. This is unacceptable and illegal.

The pros:
— camping cabins were clean, cute, and heat worked great.
— campsite was overall pleasant; organized, store was nice, pool was good, place to wash dishes etc.
Cons;
— the ladies at the front were not welcoming and rude. Very poor customer service, it set us off on a bad foot.
–Although the park is only 23 miles from this site, it takes about 50 minutes to get there due to slow and winding roads
— Arcade at the camp is cool b/​c its in a train, but only 3 out of the 7 games were on/​working.
Overall the grounds are really nice but the ladies left a bad taste in my mouth.

The good: Pretty location. Place is clean.
The bad: The staff. Someone needs an attitude adjustment. And, prices are waaaaaay too high.
Not again.

The owners and his bulldogs (sons) are a bunch of bullies. Over a small parking situation I found myself being surrounded by the 3 tough guys being screamed at like I was back in boot camp. They were screaming like schools boys who didn’t appreciate being called out for their bullshit. Swearing and trying to litteraly start a fight with me in front of several of their guest, including kids. When I politely told them to stop screaming and talk to me like an adult, I’m 26 ans the youngest of them maybe 40, I just got yelled at more and actually chest bumped. I told one of them I was in the Marines and an OEF/​OIF combat veteran and was told «I don’t care who you are, I will still put you in the hospital». Just read the other reviews and you will know that I am not lying. This place is less welcoming than Iraq.

My husband and I are currently full time travelers and KOA members. We’ve stayed at many KOA locations as we trust KOA to uphold a certain standard of quality and comfort. We recently booked a 3 night stay at the KOA Yosemite West/​Mariposa. We arrived to the registration office at 20:45. Our travel trailer wouldn’t fit at the campsite assigned, so we moved to a nearby site closest to the entrance. Our trailer fit in the tight space but our jeep wasn’t able to as well so we parked it next to our site, off the road, out of the way of incoming campers. My husband returned to the front office 20 minutes later to ask if it was okay that we had switched sites and if our jeep was okay where it was parked. Now after 21:00, the office was closed. Still inside, the woman that had checked us in saw my husband but chose to ignore him. Another staff member came along, however, and told us that both our site change and parking arrangement were okay.
Within the first 24 hours at the campground, my husband and I headed up to the pool and to shower. We noticed a white truck following us as we threw away our trash and recycling. The white truck then pulled directly behind us as we parked in front of the office next to the pool. Whom we later found out was the owner, arrogantly confronted us next to our vehicle, telling us that he was going to have our vehicle towed because of where it had been parked. Confused, we asked why and told him which site we were staying at and that where we were parked had been okayed by a staff member the night before. Finding out that he had misjudged the situation, the man became increasingly confrontational. We suspect that he saw our age and assumed that we were trying to use the facilities without being a paying guest. Not okay with being treated as though we were vagrants, I told my husband we were checking out before the situation escalated any further. The man did not appreciate this and told us that he was kicking us out instead.
While attempting to make our way into the office from the parking lot, another staff member came rushing out and began angrily yelling «Do you know who you’re talking to? That’s the owner you’re talking to.» We attempted to tell him as well that we were given permission to park next to our site by another staff member. He demanded to know who and what the staff member looked like. My husband said he didn’t know, it was dark and he’d been tired from driving a trailer through the mountains all day. I said that this entire altercation was completely unnecessary and out of line, and that my husband is a USMC combat veteran and with July 4^th soon, this trip was special to us and they were ruining it. He told us that he «doesn’t care who you are, I’ll put you in the hospital anyway» and called my husband a «punkass.»
The two men proceeded to get within inches of my husband’s face, screaming at us to «Get the fuck out!» In tears, I told them that we already planned to leave and attempted to pull my husband away from them, but they kept blocking him. My husband, worried that he might need to defend himself, calmly put his hand up in between him and the second man, telling him to please back up and speak to him like an adult.
At this point, a third staff member came along that my husband recognized as the man that had given us permission to park next to our site. However, he refused to vouch that he had spoken to my husband. With me crying, my husband trying to remain calm, and other campers witnessing what was happening, I finally managed to separate my husband and get to the office.
I told the woman at the desk that we were checking out immediately and demanded a full refund for our stay. She very bluntly told me that she didn’t want to hear anything I had to say and that I needed to wait outside. My husband told her that we were just threatened and that I wasn’t going anywhere without him. The woman then pretended that she couldn’t process a refund on the spot and that an email would be sent to us when it had been refunded. I knew this was a lie and told her I wanted a printed receipt of the refund or we would be disputing the charge with our credit card.
Knowing that she had no intentions of giving us a refund, we left the office and were stopped by a fellow camper. His family witnessed what happened and his wife confronted the three men about their behavior and language towards us in front of children. He told us he had seen similar reviews about aggressive and confrontational staff members prior to their arrival.
Once we got back to our campsite, we quickly packed our things and left. Shaken pretty badly by the altercation, we chose to move on to the next leg of our trip and come back to Yosemite another time. The next morning we called the KOA headquarters to file an official complaint. I wouldn’t recommend this KOA to anyone. The Bailey family should not be running a business in the customer service industry with how they treat their customers.

Awesome place ! Quiet in am, day, and evening… Pool area is great if you have kids ! No open fire allowed… Except grills at each tent/​cabin… Staying here right now, July 4^th 2014… We have stayed at KOAs all over USA and Canada… We like each and every one of them. Customer service is great ! Awesome shop, which offers beer, food, snacks, ice, water, etc… As well as FREE WIFI !!! I am writing from pool area… And have used Skype video call, works great.
