Mausam Curry N Bites

I had the chicken curry and it was just ok. The rice it was served on was very good as was the bread that came with it. I feel like I would need to eat two if these to be satisfied. I would probably pass next time.

This truck had the longest line throughout the Louis Armstrong fest so we figured it was worth a visit, and the butter chicken did not disappoint, even if $ 10 was pretty steep for the portion.

This is my FAVORITE food truck. A little pricey? Perhaps, but so are all the others in Dumbo. But they’re here Thursdays, Fridays AND Mondays now, and are some of the nicest people I get to talk to each day.
The best part of this truck is that they’ve got an infinite number of options – pick your meat/​veggie/​chana/​whatever and add a sauce, so you can get something different every time! My favorite is their «Crazy Vegetables,» which is actually every veggie option they’ve got smooshed into one dish, and it’s fantastic. Vegetarian heaven!

This truck visits the DUMBO lot every Thursday and sometimes Fridays, which makes lunch on these days a highlight of the week. I love the food, but is it earth shattering? No, but if you are Indian food aficionado like myself, it gets the job done, and well. Portions are large, prices are right and the staff couldn’t be friendlier. My go-​to meal is the Chole Saag but friends usually stick with the Chicken Vindaloo.
I’m a weekly regular and no longer even have to state my order, they just smile big and ask me if I want the usual. My kind of spot for sure.

They used to be near Nyu and now I see them near office in midtown. They have good portion sizes. Tasty food.

I tried this truck once a year or so ago and it was decent. Today, I gave it another try and wish that I hadn’t. I got the chole saag «meal deal» for $ 12, which included a samosa, salad, entrée, roti and a drink. When I asked if the mango juice, which was in the cooler, was included, a staffer said that it cost $ 2. I asked him if they had selzer and he said, very rudely, «just what’s in the cooler.» So, that limited me to a bottled water or diet Coke. By that time, I had already ordered my meal, so I didn’t want to just walk away. Should have. The chutneys were tasteless, the rice was mushy and it was overall, an unpleasant lunch. I should have gone to Chop’t, as I had originally planned. Sure, their salads aren’t cheap, but I would have spent less and would not be in misery right now.

Had a paneer kathi roll and mango lassi. A bit pricey but quality was very good and quite a treat to get authentic food from a truck on the go.

The food is good. If you’re comparing it to a sit-​down Indian restaurant, then you’ll be disappointed. But if you’re looking for a quick bite and you only have $ 10 to spend, you’d get your money’s worth here.

I tried them the first — and sad to say, the last time today. They were parked downtown and with no customer line up during lunch hour. I should have known! I got the two chicken kati rolls for $ 6.
Firstly, they are tiny compared to the other carts that sell chicken rolls. Secondly, the name is misleading. These are not kati kabobs inside a roll.
Thirdly, they don’t make it fresh to order, these are already made, unlike most of the other food carts where you get the rolls.
Fourthly, and most importantly, there was hardly any chicken in the rolls, maybe 2 — 3 little pieces. The rest was a mismash of cabbage, green peppers, onions etc in an overly spicy sauce, maybe chicken curry masala or something of that nature.
What a rip off! Not worth even half the cost. Best avoided.

Stumbled upon this Indian food truck (Mausam means «seasons») on 47/​park (original restaurant in Secaucus, NJ) & had an order of chicken kati roll (2 rolls for $ 6 — quite big portion snack for men, enough as lunch for girls).
It tastes better than the biryani cart I tried before. I was not so hungry but still ate 2 rolls. It was that good.

I tried the paneer kati roll. $ 6. I enjoyed it!
I found the truck on 52 Street, between 6 & 7.
I tried 5 food trucks this week, and had nothing interesting, so when I tried Mausam, I was pleasantly surprised!
I think $ 6 for two rolls is a little high. It should be $ 4 or $ 5. It was quite filling though.
The paneer was shaved, and I usually enjoy it in chunks. The filling was all kinds of Indian ingredients I am not even going to pretend to know. Delicious! I tried one roll with the green sauce, and one with the brown, and loved them both.
The guy taking the orders was very friendly, and gregarious. He spent the whole time cracking jokes and chatting with everyone on line. There were regulars there that say they eat from this truck every Wednesday.
I would return and try their other fare. I would return and I do recommend.

sorry to say, food was not so good. paneer kathi roll mostly had lettuce instead of paneer. roti was actually a paratha and that too cold and hard. rice and curry had too little curry and mostly rice.

Parked on my way home near Columbia University, i thought I’d give this food truck a try. Tried the chicken vindaloo which comes with some salad, rice, drink and bread. I thought i ordered a papadum with it, but it was more like soggy nan so that was disappointing. The sauce tasted quite nice but there was not enough of the chicken and sauce and far too much rice for $ 9. Overall, this is OK but I will not repeat.

$ 9 gets you a combo plate that includes a salad, some flat bread, a drink, and a curry of your choosing.
I’ve tried a few and all were pretty good — better than most of the indian restaurants in the area actually. (I will not name names)
Only gripe was that they skimp you on the sauce. For instance chicken tikka masala is more chicken tikka, light on the masala. The guys in the truck are nice though so maybe they’ll give you more if you ask? (I always forget to!)
$ 9 for a big plate of food is pretty normal for truck fare in midtown so no complaints about price. This is one of my go-​to trucks in the neighborhood.

I visited the food truck on 47^th street and Park Avenue in Manhattan. The vegetable samosa was pretty good and wasn’t greasy. I’d be open to trying again.

In a rush to grab a quick lunch bite today, I decided to stop by Mausam’s food truck in Midtown East to grab some curry. It was pretty quick to grab curry to go, as the curry and the rice seems to have been prepared ahead of time. I decided to stick with chicken tikka masala, but I was disappointed with what was supposed to be a curry. What curry sauce there was appeared to really have only been mixed in with the chicken, and the rice was already lightly flavored. I don’t understand at all why half the box is filled with lettuce — it doesn’t taste like a salad at all. You do get one piece of what I presume is supposed to be naan, but it is much thinner and less puffy than your regular naan, and it was even a little sweet… I preferred to eat it on my own.
You do get a free drink with $ 9 (or maybe the guys in the truck were being generous given I ordered lunch near 3 PM), but it’s about what I would expect paying for curry at that price. That said, if you are going to call something curry… make it more like curry and less like chicken on rice. And the lettuce can be ditched… I don’t eat Indian food in anticipation of having a salad.

I ordered the paneer tikka masala. really enjoyed the flavor and quality of the food. but my compaint is that there’s a ton of rice and not enough of the cheese and sauce to accompany it. At $ 9, I felt ripped off.

This place is the Food Truck version of the Mausam Indian Cuisine Bar and Banquet based out of Secaucus, NJ.
The ordering system is kind of whacky. The main guy taking the orders and preparing the food was good natured and cracked jokes, but didn’t really help move the line along. When we showed up, he said everyone else ahead of us had already ordered, but then it turned out they hadn’t. He also assumed what sides people wanted, which was kind of weird. So be sure to correct them when they bag up your order.
I ordered the chicken vindaloo. With basmati rice/​salad, a side of roti bread, and a soda, it was $ 10 (Thums Up soda is an extra $ 1, otherwise it’d be $ 9 for the meal). The chicken was good, you get healthy portions of white meat. There’s also more salad than I thought there’d be, so that’s a nice surprise. The basmati rice was thin grained and cooked well. The sauce didn’t seem very evenly made. The liquid and the sauce parts seem to have separated and parts of it were more spicy than others.
They take credit cards via Square, so that’s nice. Though they did have some issues with their card swiper.
They also have a surround sound speaker hanging off the back of the truck playing Indian music. First time I’ve seen that.
Bottom line– decent Indian food and a good food truck meal, but probably not worth $ 10. If you’re looking for Indian food, go to an Indian restaurant. But if you need a quick fix and Mausam is in your hood, I say it’s a solid bet.
