Unprofessional wait staff, mediocre food for way too much money, and consistent bad experiences. I’ve been here several times and try to give it a chance but I’m done. There are MANY24 hour diners in the area that I’d much rather give my business to.

We came with a group of 11 people and when we walked in he wanted to split us apart and was lying about an empty booth being reserved and got our orders wrong.

Friendly, fast service. The food is decent. A little on the expensive side for dinner. The quality of meats seems mediocre. Not the highest quality ingredients in my opinion.

Biggest mistake. Went to the diner for dinner with the family. I ordered a chicken caesar wrap. In the first bite I realized the dressing was bad. I was so turned off by the taste I asked for a refund. I was told they could not give me a refund. Manager insisted I order something else. I reluctantly did, another mistake! Bottom line food was terrible for the second time. I am not satisfied with how they handle the problem.

Took my car for an early morning trip to Firestone across the street. Despite the fairly crappy reviews, I decided to go there rather than Friendly’s so I could avoid the throngs of loud children. BIGGOMISTAKO… Our waitress was like a bad throw back to a kitchy sleeper movie. She took forever to take our order despite the fact that we were one of two other families in the diner. Basically there was one family to each of the servers. They should have been cutting our food and wiping our mouths. Instead, the busboy decides it was more important for him and one of the other servers to watch a game on his IPad right next to our table at the highest possible level no less… I requested to move and the stupid manager told me I was free to move if I wanted to pick up my own food and move it. The food was palatable but the manager/Sly Stallone wannabe was a MAJORTOOL!

Two eggs and American cheese on whole wheat toast costs $ 6.16. What a rip off. And for that price I would expect it to be delicious. Well that didn’t meet expectations. First and last time here. Thumbs down to this diner.

First of all, shout out to the sweet waitress we had. Her name is Jessica. You made this experience pleasant even though I’m disappointed by the breakfast in general. The staff were pleasant. The food on the other hand was just not worth it. My mother and I both ordered the florentine omelette which she found a random stem in hers. It wasn’t spinach. They were dry and a little over cooked. My toast was fine. Not impressed, just fine. The fruit was absolutely putrid. It looks so good on the outside, but tastes like sour mold. DONOTEATTHEFRUIT. I warned the manager do not serve this to people because it is absolutely moldy. There was a previous review mentioning that it tasted like socks. I can’t believe they serve this to people. It’s completely wrong. The other Athenian diner had miniature cups, but this one had bigger cups. So that was like the only upside I think aside from the staff being nice. I would recommend not eating here if you don’t want an unsatisfactory breakfast.

Looks nice from the outside but I was disappointed. Was seated in a booth that felt like I was going to fall through it. Waitress was friendly and efficient but busboys never cleared our tables despite the empty plates sitting there for at least 15 minutes. Food was fine. I’ve had much better in other diners but really no complaints about it. Killed 2 bugs on the table while I was there and that did me in.

The food was good but was almost ruined by the young man who sat us down. This kid was rude acted like it was a problem to seat us threw our menus on the table and walked away. No hello or anything. As I sat and waited for my waitress I watched him seat two other couples with the same arrogance. One couple sat across from us asking what’s wrong with him and decided to walk out without eating. This was last Sunday around 1pm, if the owners read this review maybe they can talk to this kid before they lose more business

Open all hours of the night and my favorite things from here have to be the Cheesy gravy fries/disco fries and the peanut butter pie. Although the gravy may be from a can it doesn’t taste like a nasty thick jelly gravy. They have an insane dessert case and everything is made there fresh and delicious.

Pretty good food here which is why I come. The hosts are always nice and are quick to seat you but the service could be better. Last time I was here, I sat the counter for 10 minutes until somebody asked me what I wanted. I typically come for breakfast, I think they really knock it out of the park, but their lunch and dinner is good too. Typical diner, you can eat almost anything you want at whatever time of day you want. No matter what time of day it is though… get the gravy cheese fries! They are so good, it’s unbelievable.

Always great! We come to Connecticut about 2 or 3 times a year to visit family in the area and the Athenian Diner is always a stop. The whole family loves a good meal here and we’ve never been let down. The staff is always friendly and the food is always great. I wish we had a place like this down in Maryland.

My food tasted horrible! My French toast tasted like grass, and the fruit tasted stale. This place went downhill

Sometimes you sacrifice good food for great service, great food for marginal service, or the quality of food and service for price. In the case of the Athenian Diner, be prepared for horrible(well beyond bad) service, marginal food, and marginal prices. Here, you must sacrifice all three. We have been to the diner twice, and our second experience was only worse than the first. This is quite a feat, as the first time was really bad in every way. Let me say this: the food and prices may pass for acceptable under some circumstances. But given the proximity of so many incredible places in and around Milford, Orange, and the Connecticut coast this restaurant really misses the mark. But it is the incredibly bad service that just makes dining a horrible experience. On our last visit – which truly is our last visit – the wait staff only took our order after 10 minutes and serving food to tables of diners who arrived after us. You read that right: folks arriving after us received their meals before our waitress even took our drink order. The worst part: the restaurant wasn’t even 20% full, so it was a quiet time. After taking our order the waitress did not come back to our table at all. She never checked on our satisfaction, refilled drinks, or even brought the check; we had to go to the register to get the check ourselves. The food was not good. The prices(for the quality of food) are not great – but are not entirely out of line. Combined with horrible service and a pervasive«the customer means nothing to us» attitude found in all of the staff, the Athenian Diner is more than just a disappointment. It is a place to avoid.

Omg. I ordered french toast. It was so undercooked I had to ask the waitress for a spoon to eat it. Never again. How can one screw up french toast. The bacon was fine and the fries were tasty.

We stopped here on our way back to Boston from New York and had a quick meal that was very good! The cheeseburgers were great and so were the sweet potato fries! Service was friendly and quick — a nice little diner!

You can’t set the bar too high for diners, but even so, I wouldn’t call this a go-to if I lived in the Milford area. My sixty-something parents go here a lot, which should speak volumes in and of itself… [Love you mom!] I had a Monte Cristo, and it was, well, edible. The best part was the French Toast, but that’s the hardest part to screw up. The ham and swiss components were okay, though I wound up discarding most of the turkey because it was just so damn dry. I’m not particularly picky about meat, so trust me when I say that this dish came with some rubbery, lifeless poultry on it. Service is solid. Dear old mom even has a few«favorites» from the wait staff, and eagerly anticipates the opportunity to be served by one of them. We got a table almost instantly at 1PM on a Saturday, that’s a good thing at least. It’s a professionally run diner, but like most of its ilk, it’s just kinda there…

This was my second visit in about 11 years. As far as diners, Athenian Diner III meets standards in menu selection, food quality, and service. I went on a busy Saturday afternoon to meet the in-laws and got a booth right away. My in-laws have been there several times and spoke highly of the service. My selection was an Irish wrap with corn beef, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing with piping hot fries. I enjoyed my meal and it filled me up for the rest of the day. Mom-in-law enjoyed her burger with her side Greek salad. The side was so HUGE that I helped her finish it! Dad-in-law enjoyed his eggs and corn beef hash, but he’s not a fussy eater. However, my husband was not a fan of his Monte Cristo. The dessert window looked AMAZING! I guess if I was really drunk, then this place would be HEAVEN and warrant a five star review… lol!

Except service, excellent food, super friendly staff, no waiting and service pet friendly! And you can get mimosas no matter where you sit. The best brunch in Milford — avoid Pop’s at all costs especially with the 30 minute wait and rude servers and manager!
