The Hitching Post is a family owned and operated 44 acre campground with 100% grass tent and RV sites. We have overnight sites as well as yearly and seasonal lease sites. We have an onsite fishing pond, hiking trails and several playgrounds. The Hitching Post is a quiet family campground just minutes from Chimney Rock State park, Rumbling Bald, Lake Lure and Bat Cave. Come enjoy the southern hospitality of the Hitching Post.

History

Established in 1988.

This campground was started in 1988 as a dream of James and Patricia Massengill. It was started as a hobby but has grown into a very nice quiet 44 acre family campground with overnight and lease sites with approximately 85% repeat business.

Meet the Business Owner

Glen M.

Business Owner

Glen is the son of James and Patricia Massengill, founders of the Hitching Post. He is the current owner /​operator of the Hitching Post with dreams of passing it down to his son or grandchildren some day. As a graduate of Western Carolina University and later from AB-​Tech in Asheville, NC, Glen also works as a Design Engineer for Honeywell International and has on and off since 1986. He has been married to his beautiful wife, Dr. Elicia Massengill, since 2000 and they have a wonderful son, Cooper Massengill, they are very proud of.
