Scenic yet challenging. My friend and I were actually not supposed to hike this. We were aiming for somewhere else but apparently got lost and stumbled upon this trail. Thinking it would take us back to where we needed to be, we walked it. It did not take us back, but I enjoyed the detour. I did not enjoy the extra 6 miles we ended up hiking in order to get back to her car, but that’s not Hoo Koo’s fault. Incidentally, we had a blast struggling to remember its name and came up with lots of fun variations including«Hookah» trail, «Hooey Ooey» trail and«Hooky Kooky» trail.

Ah, the Hoo Koo E Koo. Fun to say and even more fun to hike. There is flat fire road with expansive views of Mill Valley as you enter. This in an of itself is an excellent place for a low-impact walk — perfect for conversation with a friend or quiet reflection. Then the Hoo Koo E Koo trail itself, accessible from two ends of the fire road, is an invigorating climb with a spectacular payoff. At the top you reach a crest with views of Mill Valley to the East and Mt. Tamalpais park to the west. Just a beautiful overall nature immersion that is restorative and uplifting. If you’re not familiar with the area, it can take some sleuthing to find, but definitely worth it. Highly recommended.

This is a great loop for a quick ride right outside of the city. This should take you no longer than 1 hour. You start on Old Railroad Grade and climb till you get to Summit Road. You ride the paved road up till Old Railroad starts again. Then you will want to head East on the Hoo Koo E Koo trail till it meets with the down hill and very treacherous Blithedale ridge. Hoo Koo E Koo is an absolute blast but has a nice little grind at the end. The website that i posted has a really good detail.
