Jake Carrillo’s Golden Gate Sliders Baseball

Unfortunately, our family had a very unpleasant experience having our son on the Sliders baseball team. For the amount of money the program costs and based on what we have heard from other parents with kids on other travel teams, we expected that Jake and his staff would invest themselves in improving the kids on their teams and taking them to the next level. In our experience, once the program received payment, it never felt as though anyone cared if the boys were engaged or growing. Probably as a function, Sliders had a difficult time fielding enough kids to participate in tournaments and often cancelled them with little notice after families went to great lengths (and often expense) to be available and committed. When the tournaments did take place, it didn’t feel as though the Sliders staff cared about connecting with their players or their families other than their minimum requirement of coaching the games themselves to earn their per tournament money. From what I saw, they didn’t elect to join or help coordinate any sort of team dinners or camaraderie building events. Sometimes, despite the information being available to them for weeks, they didn’t let families know which hotel to book until there wasn’t enough room for everyone to stay at the same place, undermining the team building aspect of traveling together. Despite wanting to discuss our concerns with Jake while our son was still on his team, we were unable to because Jake never got back to us after asking him to approximately 5 times via email or voicemail. As background, I have never written a negative Unilocal review before and I have never complained to a coach about any sport my sons have participated in; this is a first.
Finally, I want to commend other travel ball coaches (such as Jay Bayler of California Lightning) for actually showing up to cheer on kids in their program who were selected for All Star teams. It was refreshing to see a coach who cares so much about the kids in his program and their success, in travel ball, Little League, or otherwise.

Our 10 year old twins participated in the Sliders 2012 summer and Black Friday baseball camps for the first time. Many mini-​games, tournaments, baseball cards and pure fun later, «best baseball camp» they say.

I must say that this is the best summer camp available in Marin. Jake and his staff of professional baseball coaches really know how to have fun while teaching the game of baseball. The kids come home with dirty pants a lot of great stories and a ton of baseball cards. My son is almost 12 years old now and this is the only summer camp that he still wants to go to. This camp is like a Lays potato chip… I’ll bet you go more than once!

Jake and his coaches run a great program. My son has become a much stronger player since working with coach Tommy and always has a great time in the cages or on the field. All the instructors are helpful and have a lot of experience coaching and playing. Jake makes scheduling easy and is flexible about times that work for a busy schedule.

My son has enjoyed Jake’s camps for 3 years and receives excellent instruction from Jake and his team of coaches. He has also participated in the Slider’s travel ball program and had a wonderful experience competing in tournaments in northern California as well as Cooperstown, NY.

Best baseball instruction and camp in the North Bay! Jake Carrillo and his crew give effective instruction, instill confidence, and encourage the kids to do their best. My 11-​year old looks forward to the Sliders camps during the summer and other holidays.

My son HATES all camps and never wants to go. I signed my son up for this camp becasue he loves baseball. He went under protest and I am so glad I signed him up. My son thought this was the BEST camp he’s ever attended. He had a blast every day and already wants to sign up for next summer.
