M2 Landscape Design & Construction

My first review got deleted so I’m writing a 2^nd review. First the good:
Matt and his crew do outstanding work. Attention to detail was great and I was very pleased with the final results. Matt is full of good idea’s and gives lots of options to find the best solution. He remodeled my entire house and updated the landscaping as well. He was also my maintenance guy for troublesome tenants and was always there for me.
Not so good: Most of the jobs took twice as long as they should have and there were endless excuses. Also on several occasions I had to resend the same requests several times. I think he had so many jobs going on at the same time that he lost track. Offered him help several times on his home office set up issues but refused to accept help with his business.
Bottom line: Great guy with a big heart and produces great results if you have the patience and time. If you don’t then someone else would be a better fit. I would hire him again for small quick jobs if I’m ever back in Marin.

M2 Construction just completed a remodel of our living room, kitchen and our front entrance. I was very pleased with the design process. Matt presented several options that were creative and that met the needs of our growing family (it was clear that he really listened in our original meetings). We choose a design and received a prompt estimate. With a little tweaking, we were able to come up with a plan that was both affordable and beautiful.
Contract signed, work began as soon at the permits were signed with a full crew. Matt was on scene for the critical phases of demolition to ensure it was was completed properly. Though he had 2 smaller projects he was finishing, he was on sight a few times each day. If I had a question, he always made himself available by phone (even into the evenings). Things progressed relatively smoothly other than a delay by the door and window vendor and a grouchy neighbor, but Matt was able to complete the work only 4 days over the original completion date and on budget (THANK YOU SO MUCH!)
My wife and I decided to choose M2 after interviewing several companies. Some had lower bids and some higher. I friend recommend M2 after they did a full remodel and landscape at their home. I watched their project progressed and was impressed with M2’s professionalism, cleanliness and finished project. I would love to use M2 again if we ever find the resources to complete phase 2.

Matt and Co have been working with me for over ten years on various projects, both inside and outside my home. He has a good sense of design and brings those skills to both his landscaping and interior projects. We have put in water features (pond with waterfall), refaced my fireplace, built beautiful retaining walls from river rock, and even built some decks. I recommend M2 highly, and will continue to work with them on my next project, whatever it may be.

The original plan did not anticipate a number of issues that should have been accounted for before embarking – like where our gas line ran in relation to digging. We felt like we had to get a degree in landscaping and drainage in order to problem solve for them. Once the line was uncovered it was up to us to solve with the assistance of PGE. Additionally, communication was poor and the project was over 50% more than estimated. And ultimately M2 told us we were lucky they bid so low and that they did so such they could remodel our bath. Needless to say that will not happen! Just a horribly stressful experience.
