My dreams of being a baker would be better explained by telling you about my families past. My family immigrated to the states from Cuba. They wanted to flee the cuban revolution. When they arrived to Florida, they had to start over through hardwork and persistence. When I was a little girl I remembered my grandmother in the kitchen making meringue, bunuelos, flan and birthday cakes from scratch. I watched her measure, mix, pipe, bake, and serve every dessert with love. It’s how she kept everyone together. My grandmother used baking as her outlet, and now I do the same. I love baking because I love everything about it. The smells, the tastes, and the presentation. I was introduced to Cuban and American desserts at a young age. I created the Rebel Baker to bind boths those worlds together. Through my families experience with a bitter revolution, was the birth of my own revolution, a sweet revolution.
