Elite Event: Splash ‘n’ Dash

Want to hang out by the pool with snow cones on a hot weekend? Unilocal has you covered. The laid-​back Unilocal event perfectly fit in with my July 4 weekend. The staff was awesome, the pool was fun, and they had snow cones! :)

Very fun pool party! I had a blast, there was good food (prepared by everyone who attended), BBQ catered by Dickie’s, nice weather, snow cones, beer, and wine, and a nice indoor pool! The pool was awesome, like every pool once you just in it’s cold for the first few minutes. But after that it felt great! Especially since it was pretty hot outside.
Now, coming to this event from the Southbay there were only a few of us holding it down, there were many more Unilocalers from SF which is understandable because of the location.
In the middle of the event we had to vote on which we thought was the best homemade food that was brought and they announced 4 winners which all won a huge bottle of champagne.
You know that the SouthBay was holdin’ it down and Liana H. and Adilia S. won for making these
lemon bars… FROM SCRATCH!
Congrats to the other 3 winners as well.

With great food shared by Unilocalers, plenty of sun, beers, and a refreshing pool, this event was a lovely way to end the holiday weekend!
Grats to the winners of the best dishes– I’m glad I got to try a lemon bar before they ran out. Dickey’s BBQ did a stellar job at providing delicious beef brisket & pulled pork to us, which starving bf happily chomped down on. Bellies full, we ignored the 30 minute rule and hopped in the pool: P
After the event, we grabbed some cocktails at xyz lounge in order to validate our parking. Hey, it isn’t called Sunday Funday for nothing :)
Lots of appreciation for Abby S’s excellent event planning + execution, and to fellow Unilocalers for contributing. Hope to see y’all soon!

The venue, weather, the theme, the BBQ from Dickey’s, the sadly deceased inflatable whale and the other Unilocalers were what made this event for me.
It was not very well organized:
1. Parking was $ 6, and this was not mentioned ahead of time. Sure, you could buy a very expensive bar drink to have it waived, but I would think the community manager would be able to finagle free parking from the venue!
2. The food was all sitting in the hot sun, causing cupcake frosting to droop, cheese slices to melt into puddles, and guacamole to brown at an alarming rate. There should have been a shaded /​cooler area for food.
3. There was no way to get into the pool area except getting someone with a key card to let you in. That was awkward. It would’ve been better if the CM had found a good way to prop a door open. Which would’ve solved the next problem too:
4. It was WAY too hot inside the pool area. Like, sauna hot. If the doors were left open, we could’ve had a nice breeze.
5. The shave ice flavors were cherry and grape, and the ice was super coarse. The party attendants were over 50% Asian. The flavors should really have been lychee and green tea.
Well, I’m sure it’ll be more thoughtfully planned next time.

This was a very relaxing and intimate event-​PERFECT for the 4^th of July weekend and a kick of to summer!
I really enjoyed the whole pot luck theme and getting to try so many deliciously prepared/​bought foods. Niquee did a FABULOUS job of providing us with refreshing snow cones (made me feel like I was already in Hawaii) to help us cool off.
Dickey’s BBQ definitely provided the whole «summer bbq» atmosphere with their delicious bbq’s meats and sides, not to mention they are local in San Bruno. Chips provided by Late July were tasty and there was plenty of ice cold beers and wines to make it a party for those who enjoy drinking pool side.
The actual ALoft pool was a nice place to soak your feet or play pool volleyball and catch up with your fellow Unilocal buds!
This was THE perfect summer event, both delicious, well planned, intimate and relaxing. Thanks to Abby S. for always taking care of us and putting together memorable events and for all the hard work she puts in to each and every one! :)

Elite events are always a blast. The spouse and I definitely over-​dressed (damn South SF weather). The potluck food was awesome. Eggrolls for dayzzz. My favorite though was the catered BBQ from Dickey’s — which is really close to our house. Shame that it only has 2.5 stars on Unilocal because I’d definitely rank it at the top of BBQ that I’ve had in the Bay Area. Definitely going to try this place out so more this week or weekend. Oh yeah and there were sno-​cones.

What a Sunday Funday it was!
It was a lovely and warm day to be outside to enjoy some potluck goodies which consisted of treats such as cupcakes, cookies, watermelon, different types of salads and even egg rolls! In addition, we were able to sample some of Dickey’s BBQ (which was tasty, I might add. I enjoyed the brisket). There were also drinks to be had including beers and some Peju wine. Oh and I almost forgot to mention sno-​cones, but alas I didn’t get the chance to try some.
I didn’t swim but my boyfriend did and it was just nice to hang out and enjoy some drinks and food! There were a few other swimmers, but most people were hanging out and lounging.
I had fun at this event and I liked the potluck idea! Great way for people to share treats and try different foods!

After a less than stellar morning, I came to Splash ‘n’ Dash — Mood status: grumpy and tired.
Fortunately, the outdoor chairs were so comfy I spent the first 30 minutes napping/​enjoying some much needed sunshine after chowing on some of the many potluck dishes. (And don’t forget the snow cones and Late July Chips.)
The prizes for best potluck dish — bottles of wine so large they had everyone wishing they had won.
I migrated inside for some much awaited pool time (only second time swimming this summer… so much needed may be an understatement). It was great to escape the heat in the cool water and since the pool was indoors, cool is the best word. I went from sticking my feet in the pool to engaging in some competitive pool volleyball. Finally, it was awesome to meet Stephanie and her crowd and our awesome man at the bar (since my plus one couldn’t make it last minute they took me under their wing for a fun time). We definitely closed out the party.
Overall, thanks to Abby for planning a wonderful event. It was just what I needed for a little R & R at the beautiful Aloft.

Totally looking forward to this event! I was contemplating on various smoked salmon apps/​dish recipes Sunday morning and glad I spent the time preparing a homemade dish.
When my friend and I first arrived, It was a little bit slow. I was starving as I skipped breakfast so I hit Dickey’s bbq first. I chowed that down quickly with a glass of wine on the hot summery day at the outdoor lounge chairs.
We ran into some some friends and hung out near the pot luck table grubbing on all the food. Once the heat became unbearably hot, we moved to the courtyard outside of XYZ bar and got some sno cones! The sno cones doesn’t compare to the fluffy ones in Hawaii but this was still perfect for our hot summer day.
Many of us debated and wanted to get into the pool but we felt it could have used a little more air circulation. Thus we stayed outdoors in the breezy area.
Eventually we got around to submitting votes for best homemade pot luck items. To our surprise, the 4 winners received magnum champagne bottles! So glad I spent the effort making my dish and winning a bottle of champagne!

Side note– If you buy a drink at the bar, they waive your parking for 2 – 3 hours.

This was a slightly different event because us Unilocalers brought a side dish to share. Wow! Everyone brought a ton of food and everything I tasted was so delicious! There were different types of salad, sweets, chips and more. In addition to our side dishes, Dickeys BBQ had pulled pork, brisket, baked beans and coleslaw! YUMMY!
Aloft also hosted a beer and wine bar which was very gracious. Snow cones were the perfect way to end my delicious meal.
The indoor pool was cool and refreshing! A lot of people were playing volleyball!
There was a contest with four winners for best side dish and Adilia S. And I won for the lemon bars! Woohoo!

Serenity at its best — ALOFT!!! Thank you for the generous hospitality; you had me at «Peju», especially their Sauvignon Blanc. Much thanks to our fabulous SF/​SB CM Abby S. for uniting Bay Area Yeeps for a few hours of fun in this chic & modern hotel. Kudos to everyone for bringing a dish to share, food makes us «Happy» (Pharrell Williams comes to mind). Congrats to those well-​deserved winners for making yummy desserts, healthy salads, and fresh salmon. Thank you Nique for making endless sno cones, kept us hydrated =)
Thank you to Dickey’s BBQ for providing savory meats and sides, paired well with the organic chips from Late July; I prefer lightly salted chips. We will be visiting the San Bruno Dickey’s location with the family. The pool was a hit at half time when Elites & their guests had enough food in their tummies and alcohol ^0^ Unilocal-​tastic time had by all, couldn’t have asked for a nicer/​sunnier day with a fun/​fabulous group in Millbrae ~ can’t wait to see everyone real soon!

I don’t always go to Unilocal Pool Parties but when I do, I bring my swim goggles and nose plug!?! #TrueStory
Abby S put together quite a fun event at Aloft Hotel. We had access to the lobby area to play pool or board games, lounge area with comfortable seating, outdoor patio area to get our tan on (like I need it?!?), and of course the pool area so we can get our swim on.
Once again we had too many people dipping their feet in the pool and not actually in the pool itself… so my boy Jason D and I decided to CANNON-​BALL our way into the Pool to get the party started off right. Water was not too cold or too warm, but just right. More people joined in and it was really fun meeting Unilocal peeps in the pool rather than standing outside cuz it was quite the hot summer day today!
Big Ups to Dickey’s BBQ for catering, also to all the other vendors whose names I can’t remember, and of course thanks to all the Unilocalers who brought awesome side dishes… till next time playas!?!
