Sixt rent a car

This was the first time renting from SIXT and I was pleased initially with the value offered based on the price quoted for the type of car I was renting, but was apprehensive. The offsite location might cause inconvenience and the car might be not be «„similar“» to the one selected on-​line. I was elated to find those concerns were completely unwarranted, the time it took to get to the office and being immediately attended to, was likely quicker than going through the onsite rental companies line-​ups. It also was far quicker and less confusing when leaving from there to get out and access the highway than it would have been from the airport. Pleased also that the car choices I was actually offered exceeded my expectations. The area however that was most impressive was the service provided by the staff. Better than ever experienced.
All welcomed me, all appeared to take pride in their appearance and dress and all treated me as a valued customer. The young lady assisting me was professional and as good as any other I’d dealt with at other agency. Two others however went above and beyond what I would expect as good service. As my arrival coincided with a system update, they were unable to immediately process the rental but explained and apologized that it’d likely take more time. This was explained by the manager/​supervisor, in such a way that was calming and made it of little concern. She also went out and brought us back Starbucks coffee. Shortly thereafter, system was up and rental was being completed. The delay might easily have caused a negative impression, but had been turned into a positive one.
While the rental was being processed I asked if there were any nearby restaurants that the agent serving me could recommend nearby. She apologized for not being familiar with the area but said the agent beside her was and asked her advice. This young woman immediately engaged us, seemed very happy to help us and gave us a number of suggestions. She then asked where we were going next and gave us some suggestions for there. I left very impressed, never having had such an enjoyable, professional and friendly rental experience. When we returned the car, I was served by the agent that had provided us the recommendations. She recognized us and asked, how was the car, about our trip, what did we do and where specifically we went, while quickly processing the return. We felt treated as if we were regular and frequent renters with VIP status. That night we went to a local restaurant she’s suggested and had one of the best meals of our trip. To be clear, she was receiving no personal benefit by giving us her recommendations.
I travel a fair amount, seen SIXT as a car option but wasn’t familiar with them and assumed might be less reliable. Just the process time, car I got and price I paid would have made me to look to them again as viable to consider. The experience with the staff with their service, help and involvement have influenced me to sign up to their program and always will look to SIXT as a preferred agency.

We rented a convertible here for our PCH road trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles. We were supposed to get a mustang, but it needed an oil change so they upgraded us to an Audi A3 at no additional charge! Pretty sweet, huh? The car was in great condition and so smooth to drive. For a premium car, we didn’t pay that much (~$ 450ish for 4 days), but the price has gone up since then.
I’ve never heard of Sixt before this trip. It’s a new rental company from Germany. Despite all the negative reviews on Unilocal,we had no issues. Maybe because we checked in at 11pm, the rental process was really quick. The check-​in area looks really hip, but not a lot of space. The staff were friendly. The shuttle driver helped with our bags. If you’re coming from the SF airport, take the airtrain to the rental car area and there is a shuttle outside of level one that will take you to Sixt. This location is at the Westin hotel.

A great team at SFO Sixt. They had an incredible deal on a MB and it was a great ride. Second, I had left a back support pillow in the car when I returned, my fault, but they found it quickly. Thanks

I chose to rent from Sixt because I know the brand from Germany, where I live and occasionally rent from the company. We booked an Audi A3/​Mercedes CLA-​class car for a very competitive $ 32/​day.
Our main complaints:
— We were given an Audi A3 sedan with a dirty interior — it looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned since the last rental, the sunshade was broken, and there were many visible stains.
— When we made the staff aware of this, they told us that they didn’t have any other sedans or wagons in this class and said they would mark the damage on our receipt.
— After getting back in the car, we noticed even more stains and damage, so we went back and told the staff that we didn’t want to take this car.
— Our replacement car was also dirty — obviously had been cleaned/​vacuumed inside.
Positives:
— After two separate trips to complain, we were offered a vehicle from a higher class (Volvo S80 instead of the Audi A3).
— Shuttle was waiting for us both directions, and the driver was friendly and helpful.
Overall:
— I would probably rent from Sixt again in the US, but only because they offer premium cars at competitive prices. Otherwise the service (including a really basic element — providing clean cars) was underwhelming.
UPDATE MAY 10^th: I received an email from Sixt’s «claims management» department asking for payment of $ 180 for «damage.» Attached was an invoice from towing company for a tow job done two days before we landed in San Francisco (from their lot to a local Volvo dealership). 2 stars — 1 star.

New car rental company. I first used them at the beginning of my 10 day vacay at the Los Angeles International airport (LAX) location. From LAX, Anaheim, Riverside, San Diego, Yosemite National Park, Fairfield and San Francisco my Sixt rental car (Cadillac ATS) did more than its share of getting me to all my points of interest. The fact i was able to drop off the car at a seperate location at no added rates was a big plus!
Now for the San Francisco Sixt location which this review is about… located at the Westin Hotel in Millbrae, CA in a office to the right of the hotel entrance. I didn’t interact with the front desk staff since I was only dropping off my vehicle. The drop off location was located on the south side of the Hotel. There was only one attendant receiving the returning cars and with the amount of cars arriving, he was overwhelmed and the space to receive the returning cars was inadequate. As cars piled in to return, the customers had to determine where to park the cars. Oh I forgot to mention that the car return area is also the hotel parking lot.
In addition, while waiting for the shuttle to pick up customers to bring them to the airport, the wait area outside had no heat to keep them warm. With the temperatures dipping at the time in the low 60’s to the 50’s and the bay area wibd blowing made it quite unbearable. Sixt should work on an area to have the customers confortable while waiting for the shuttle. Oh the wait for the shuttle is approximately 15 minutes.
Lastly, I was unaware that the shuttle ride from the Sixt office would take us and our luggae to the rental building lnly to catch the team to the terminals. I assumed the shuttle would take us directly to the terminals. That topped it off for me to give this Sixt a 2 star review. Please fix these shortfalls to bring your rating higher.
I love the prices you offer so don’t ruin it with your service to the public.

I guess we lucked out and rented on a good day. Last month we needed a vehicle with all wheel drive because we were headed to the snow. At first we were reluctant to rent here because of all the negative reviews, but the price was so good we decided to give them a chance.
We called a couple days before we were going to pick up the SUV to be sure we would be getting an all wheel drive vehicle. They said that the class we reserved would be good. We arrived on time to pick up the car. At first they told us that they had no more vehicles in the class we reserved. Ok. What’s the point in a reservation then? Then they said that they could charge us more for the next class of vehicles. We were pretty upset; my sister complained and they ultimately didn’t charge us for the upgrade. We were in and out in less than 30 minutes.
The rental was clean and had no problems. We tried to call them to see how much they would charge us if we returned the car late because of traffic, but no one answered the phones. (We tried calling for about an hour) Luckily traffic lightened up and we were able to return on time.
We will rent from them again. Thanks!

Take a train to the rental car exit. Then a van to a hotel. Line is out the door, 10 people in front of me waiting just to get inside. Not worth saving a few bucks, go with a major brand. Will take an hour from leaving baggage claim to getting your car.
Sixt was great in Germany. Not so much in the US.
Update: after waiting over an hour in line, they did upgrade me several car classes, even without me asking. Staff was very polite, just took a ridiculously long time…

As stated in some other reviews, Sixt isn’t located at the airport, its at the Westin Hotel. I would have saved some time having this information sooner.
The agent I talked to was very courteous, I explains that I was on my way to Tahoe and needed an AWD vehicle. The agent was able to upgrade me to an AWD SUV for a nominal fee, it really was a great deal. She was able to get me the last AWD in the lot — a Hyundai Sante Fe, well equipped. We’re very lucky they had one in the lot since it was snowing in the pass.
I would without a doubt rent from Sixt again, they have an outstanding fleet and great prices. I will keep coming back until I experience some bad customer service.
Top notch location!

The customer service here is OUTSTANDING!!! I see some older reviews being really bad but there’s a new employee who just moved to that area 2 weeks ago and she was BEYOND!!! Knew how to constantly make conversation and feel comfortable. All the other staff were nice as well, but she was just amazing. If she isn’t the manager, she should be. If she is, then the company reviews will definitely get turned around with her leadership. Such a great and fast experience here. Definitely recommended.

I would stay away from Sixt.
I called multiple times to confirm they would have AWD vehicles available in my SUV luxury class. I was told over the phone only the VW would not be AWD. I arrive at Sixt in SF westin hotel at 12:35pm. My car pick up time was 12:30pm. I waited 2 hrs before I got a chance to talk to an agent. Numerous customers wanted AWD and it was clear no SUV AWD were availble. However more concerning is their lack of professionalism and organization. They had no idea what cars they had available. The staff are rude and not very helpful.
Finally it was my turn. They had no vehicles at the site in my class and would have to call another LOT to have one come over, she said may take another hour. at this point i was so late for my meeting I asked to take the SUV they had Hyunda Sante Fe. obv not in my class of BMWs, Mercedes, etc. They said they would discount me. However the manager said hed email me the final price. They could not even TELL ME WHAT I WAS GOING TO PAY. they just billed me. I was told if i didnt make a decision right away about the lower end SUV id have to go back to the end of the line. mind you i just waited 2 hrs to get a car. the reviews on google and Unilocal are real. would stay away.

We rented our car in San Jose and returned it at SFO. We cannot say enough. For $ 160, we had a brand new, loaded Volvo, for 5 days. We hopped on the shuttle in San Franscio and dropped off at the airport. Totally cool.

The Sixt Rent a Car in SFO is actually at the Westin Hotel for anyone who needs to know, so make sure you don’t take an Über or Lyft to SFO like I did :)
So my morning started off trying to find the Sixt office, which took me a bit of time (I took a shuttle from SFO). When I got to the office, there were three employees helping out all of the people in the waiting room.
I was going to Tahoe, so I needed an SUV with AWD or 4WD, which at the time they didn’t have. I requested one beforehand, but they did explain to me that it’s a bit difficult to find something like that during the Winter season. I decided to wait a bit to see what might be coming in later that morning, and I was in luck! Not only did I get an SUV that I needed, but they gave me a little bit of a discount for having to wait so long. I was really appreciative of the friendly service they provided, and I know I’ll be renting a car from them again.
They didn’t charge me any more than what was quoted, and the prices they have are really great in comparison to other car rental places. I recommend trying this place out if you’re looking for good quality cars at really good prices!

If I could give 0 stars… I would. First, I waited 25 minutes for a shuttle to take me from the airport to their off-​site location. Then, about 40 people were waiting in line for at least an hour because they ran out of cars and had to clean and send cars from another site. I would rather pay more for better faster service.
Management most certainly needs to learn how to better manage their services.

This has been my worst rental car experience anywhere. Do not rent here.
First, it’s off-​airport, which would have been ok, but the shuttle took forty minutes. Then there was a line out the door. Not enough staff. Ninety minute wait meant I don’t beat traffic; I got to sit in it.

Cheats, liars, horrible customer service. If I go with another non Hertz/​Avis company again, I will Unilocal it first.
Compared to other reviews, I’m happy knowing that I was only ripped off in a bait and switch move. I didn’t have my time wasted waiting (other than promising myself to dedicate no more than 20 minutes to writing this review) like the group of customers that came in after me (and looked exactly like the photos posted in other Sixt reviews).
I booked with Sixt because I wanted to rent a BMW X3 or Volvo X60 and booked it at an $ 68/​day rate. When I arrived (with my two young children) I was told there were no cars like the one I wanted. I clarified, «Like the one I booked.» The rep told me that I could wait about 45 minutes for a GMC Acadia or I could take a Chevy Trax immediately. And that the rate wouldn’t change. I asked the rep if the Chevy Trax cost more. Clearly, she realized that I didn’t know what a sardine can this car was and smiled at me as she told me she’d give me the car at the same rate and that it was an «SUV class» rate.
When I got to the parking lot, it was full of plenty of really nice cars. As I mulled this over and got the kids buckled in, a Sixt rep came out to show a customer the selection of cars. I popped out to explain that I was paying the $ 68 rate/​day and didn’t get the car I booked and could see quite a few similar class cars in the lot (and that I looked up the rate for the Trax and it listed it as $ 37/​day). She said she didn’t know why I wasn’t given one of the other cars and why the rate wasn’t adjusted — she took a picture of my receipt and told me she’d make sure her manager, Safiya, took care of it.
Well, no surprise, that didn’t happen and when I returned with my car on 12/​24, the office was so jammed packed with other unfortunate souls, that I simply, gasped, loudly. (I’m sorry, I know I startled some of you, because the monsoon-​ish wind caught the door and flung it open.) Luckily, after the awful initial experience I had inbound, my sister said she would follow me and my kids to Sixt and then shuttle us to the airport. Thank goodness. It was raining like crazy, there was not room to wait inside, and there was no shuttle. It was a complete cluster. I probably would have missed my flight, even though we were returning 2.5 hours before the flight.
Also, the shuttle fee from the airport to the Westin was $ 20 — the only place I saw this cost noted was on the receipt.
Again, I feel lucky that I was only overcharged about $ 200 for my four day rental and didn’t have to wait over an hour (or more) to be bait and switched.

This office horrible … Never ever come back to here I book on the Hotwire 149 $ 7 days but when I get invoice they charge me 349 $ it’s mean 20 $ extra each day I call them what is wrong? They respond me because you book silver style car nissan or etc style I said so they didn’t ask me we do t have that’s style car …
Anyways thru are liar and they charge me extra I didn’t except other car but they charge it

Worst car rental experience EVER!
I reserved my car «full size» VW Passat 10 days prior to my trip
I walked into their office and the «full size» they offered was a Toyota Corolla ???
Wait time 2 hours… I was sent three times to the valet area and the car was never there… Three times, not once. Never said let me fix this for you and give you a car that is «available’ — at this point I really didn’t care whether is a full size or midget size, I just want to get the hell out of here
This office runs more like a Low cost car rental than a German respectable company I have used (I am a Platinum member) elsewhere

We thought it would be clever to skip the air train to the shuttle to get to their location so we took a taxi.
$ 16 later we arrive to find an office with at least 20 grumpy customers waiting. They didn’t have the cars people had reserved online. The cars they did have available took over 30 minutes to be found/​cleaned/​ready to go.
We are platinum members, yet the staff was rude and the Mosquitos plentiful.
If you decide to go here anyways, may the force be with you!

Things were going fine up to the point of leaving the rental counter to walk around the side of the hotel to get my car. I stood around over there for almost 25 minutes before they brought the car around. The whole time, the staff that I could see (usually two people, sometimes three) weren’t showing any concern at all that it was taking so long.
I’m currently on hold after calling their number, it’s been almost 20 minutes now. I’m calling to see how the shuttle works when I return the car. Coming in, I rode the air train to the car rental center, then down to level 1 to catch the off-​property shuttle. I’m hoping I don’t have to reverse that process, since their office is south of the actual airport, and the car rental center is north of the airport. It will be annoying if I get to watch the airport go by as we go past it to the rental car center, easily adding 15 minutes or more to the time it will take me to get to security and to my gate.
Update: it took over 25 minutes before they finally answered my call, and they said the shuttle takes you direct to the airport. I just dropped the car off, and it turns out they use the Westin Hotel’s airport shuttle to take people back to the airport. So heaven help you if you’re in a hurry — I was told by the doorman it would be 10 minutes for the shuttle, and that was 3 – 4 minutes ago. He just told another person 10 minutes. Fortunately The shuttle showed up after about 7 – 8 minutes from when he told me 10, and I’m on my way.
Strongly recommend you find a different car rental vendor than this one…

Good value car rental company. I have used SIXT in Europe, Mexico and the USA and have never experienced any problems with them.
Rental charges at SFO are much better than the major rental companies and vehicles are all new /​almost new. Staff are all very courteous and obliging. The rental car office is located in The Westin Hotel located close to San Francisco airport.
