Fix Price Move

Fix Price Move aka Golden State Van Lines:
I needed a quick move from one storage facility (being flattened for a new train) to another. Quick and easy, I figured.
For once, I figured right ;)
I called the guys in Milpitas and arranged the move. They said it would be in the afternoon on the following weekend.
The call at 8am was the only ‘bad’ part, as I wasn’t expecting to hear from them until about noon and I was up late the night before, so I asked them to defer until the afternoon.
They called again around 10:15am and said they’d be done sooner than expected with the earlier move, and asked if I could move up my plans to 11am. No problem.
The next call was around 11:20am and said they were waiting for me at the «move from» site, but no problem waiting for me to get there.
I met them, the 3 man team moved all of my stuff from a 10×15 space in just under 2 hours (99% of it was already in boxes and required no additional packing, boxing, etc. Just moving and shuffling around and some consolidation with taping of open boxes), moved it down the road and unpacked into another 10×15 space arranging it according to my instructions in about 40min, and while I was ‘full’ (at capacity) in the first space, I have more room now in the new (same dimensions) space, which goes to show the value of good packers and movers ;)
They have a 3hour minimum charge, and the guys were done in just under that.
They were friendly, professional, not a single complaint or concern and just diligently went about their job. I had one casualty of a bent Styrofoam-​backed photo, but nothing critical.
The cost was as negotiated. The work was superior and the staff friendly. I have no issues recommending Fix Price Move/​Golden State Van Lines for anyone making a short haul move (I don’t know how they are for a longer/​larger haul, so I can’t speak to that).

I have used these guys twice now. The first time they were great and the last time (dec 29,2012) they were fantastic. I was completely moved in my new place in about four hours. They were very professional and polite. If I move again I will definitely use them again. I give them high marks.

I called this company because I had a need for specifically to get my furniture and household delivered at a very specific times bc my neighborhood in austin is highly regulated (unfortunately) and the guy on the phone, Bob, reassured me over and over that it would be delivered within a 3 day time frame in late June.
I was driving before to get the house ready, and called the company to ensure things were on track and some random guy said «of course not», that my stuff was mixed in with several other households and they had no idea when it would arrive. I was extremely upset as I was going early to get the house moved in so it was less tough on my kids who had been through a divorce and were already very emotional.
I was extremely upset and I just simply got the run around. When they finally delivered it, two weeks later, the only day they could do it, get this. was the 4^th of July?!? Worst moving experience ever! And that’s saying something
Buyer beware, get everything in writing with this company, but better yet, stay away.

Wouldn’t recommend these guys. Too much to write here in terms of what went wrong; but a few items to mention:
— Donna and sales team were very helpful, quick and accommodating up front. She was most responsive until things went wrong and my wife and I were upset. Quote was almost too good to be true, as it was much lower than all competitors. It was 30% lower than any other bid… guess it was too good to be true
— Quote didn’t include packaging, and there was an additional «packing» charge. In essence we were charged for: 1. flat per hour labor 2. box material 3. An additional «packing» fee to fill boxes (per box). Came out to be ~2x what other companies had budgeted.
— Left the house dirty, door off hinges, divot in wood floor
— Stated they had own storage facility, they do not. They rent storage units at San Jose airport storage. Stated they were climate controlled, they are not.
— Packed materials horribly. Kitchen dishes in with lamps/​hammer. chemicals in with laundry… etc. More about filling boxes; no rhyme or reason
— Communication horrible, many calls, emails, escalations without answer.
— Others have stated the rest… just not worth it.

THESE GUYS ARE AWESOME! I used them once 2 years ago and again this past weekend and I was totally amazed both times at how professional, quick, careful with my belongings, and friendly they were. I have spoken on the phone with both Burt, who is head of sales, and Ben who is head of operations, and could not be more happy with how I was treated and how fairly I was charged. It was amazingly inexpensive both times and I have had stairs to navigate (and they seem to be the only movers who don’t charge for stairs) as well as VERY big furniture pieces (huge bed and armoire) and they disassembled, carefully moved, and reassembled them quickly and professionally. I don’t know what the few bad reviews on here are talking about because a great experience twice in a row with them can’t be luck! Burt even spoke on the phone to me kindly and patiently when I literally yelled at him before the move because I was so stressed out and worried that it was going to cost me a lot. He assured me it wouldn’t, gave me an estimate of how long it would take just based on how long it took before (but I was sharing the move this time with my roommate who needed her stuff moved to her new place before my stuff was moved)…and he was accurate. It took 6 hours for both our moves combined and I paid $ 660. No hidden costs, no shifty paperwork that makes you uneasy to sign. Straightforward, professional, and very sweet people to deal with. If I move again someday… even cross country (these were local moves), I WILL USE THEM AGAIN IN A HEARTBEAT! :)

Within the past 10 months, we’ve moved across country — from Oakland, CA to Durham, NC and back. Both times we used Fix Price Move.
The quality of service and delivery both times was professional and excellent. Also, they were completely flexible with our tentative arrival dates in both directions.
On the way out, our sales rep was Donna, and on the way back it was Mike. Both experiences were positive, and all of our furniture made it without a scratch. Bert was great to work with to arrange delivery, and even welcomed us back to California.
Bob was great to work when we moved back to Califonia, as it took us an extra week to close on our house — so he stored our boxes and furniture for free (they offer 1 month free storage if needed) until everything was finalized.
The drivers and movers that actually transported our stuff (Orentha, and 2 guys names Sasha/​Alex) were also very careful loading and unloading our furniture.

I used them 2 yearsback. They didn’t do a god job. They scratched our newly painted walls. Also some small damages in our expensive furnitures. We paid them more than what they quoted. Even then they were not happy. They cribbed a lot. I came to Unilocal to read review about t1 moving and came across fix price and thought of giving reviews about my experience.

i recently moved from santa clara to oakland and these guys were great. the first part of my move was easy, a first floor to the truck 20 feet away. but they were fast, professional and careful. they wrapped everything well and had my 2 bedroom apartment in the truck in a little over an hour.
the second half of the move was much more difficult… a 4 story walk up. but they were again efficient and safe. they moved much quicker than i had imagined with the challenging stairs, even my heavy antiques. and nothing was damaged. they were constantly asking me where to put things and were extremely professional. i highly recommend their work

We had a great experience with Fix Price Move! We got a great deal that I even quoted it to the other movers calling us. The competition said «There’s no way they can give you that price. You’ll see a lot of hidden costs after the move.» Well, not only was there no additional costs but they even discounted some packing supplies. They are a good heartened family owned business that I’d recommend to anyone!

Avoid this bunch. The «fix price» is actually just a bait and switch deal. We spent 2 weeks packing our 3 bedroom, 2 bath house outside SF. They had a guy comeout and do a «visual inspection“of our house and came back with estimate of $ 2,800, well below the competitors. They saw we’d done all the packing. the crew cameout the next week and started packing. I noticed the head guy writing things down but when I asked about it he just shrugged – no additional charges i was told. Then at the end of the day they gave me the bill– $ 1,800 addtional for their professional packing. Two reps had misled me – and of course now they had all our goods in their truck, leaving us little leverage. We had to drive the next day across the state so ended up negotiating with them from the road. They knocked off $ 400 but it wasn’t enough. I just wanted to get my goods and cut the ties with these people (one caveat– the actual movers that did the physical work did a good job on this end and I still tipped them… not their fault they work for this kind of company).

These guys are amazing. I was able to move up my move date by two days and actually got them to the house the day I called to change. They worked hard and fast. Hit my quoted price, and just made the move so easy. I will use them again in a heart beat and recommend them to anyone.

Not sure what all of the recent negative reviews are about, but I wanted to share my experience with Fix Price Move.
Donna is excellent — 5 stars to her! She was persistent in helping me with booking the date without being pushy. We had to move the date quite a bit because of the uncertainty around the closing date. But she was patient and super helpful. One thing she could have helped with was including in the estimate that you had to buy insurance from the 3^rd party at least 48 hours before. It was not clear, and she never mentioned it. When we called back about it, they offered to let us move our our move date to accommodate us, but we went ahead anyhow. Nice of them to offer though.
One little hiccup. We called to hire their guys to help us with moving our stuff into a POD container (just labor) for one afternoon and I spoke to someone there (Evan?). He said he would call back, but did not. We ended up having to get friends instead, but it was a bit confusing. We did call on a Saturday for help on a Sunday, so it is forgivable. No problem here.
Anyhow, the move went super smoothly. The guys arrived at the appointed time, and they were professional and helpful the whole time. I do suggest one thing. Get your own tape and furniture wrap. We happen to have a lot on hand, so we were not charged for tape or packing supplies. I told them explicitly that if we ran out, we would buy more instead of using theirs which was expensive. They were nice about it and understood what we wanted.
They moved our whole 3 bedroom house into a new one in 3 hours. No fuss. They set everything up and even helped us move some glass stuff into one of our cars so that we would not have to crate it.
My only complaint was that they asked us to sign off that everything was a-​okay right then after they set it all up. We had a LOT of stuff, and it was impossible to tell within 10 minutes of everything arriving whether or not anything was broken or scratched. We did a quick walk around, but it was a lot of pressure to just say everything was fine since half of our furniture was put into our garage because we were going to renovate. I was very confused by this since in previous moves, they give you a chance to actually look through your stuff in the days afterward.
Anyhow, there were some small problems, but overall it was a pleasant experience for moving. Seriously, who every says that about moving? I highly recommend Fix Price Move. One more thing. They raised the prices in between the time I first contacted them and when I moved (it was a LONG TIME), but they kept to the original price and even gave me the Unilocal discount on top of it. Love that they went out of their way for us when they did not have to.

So when I first called this company to get an estimate, they were very friendly and the price was lower then all the other moving companies that gave me estimates. I choose to go with this company. Well, the final bill ended up being three times the amount I was quoted. I understand that the quote is just an estimate but it should not come to 3x’s more. They get you with all the supplies they use. Also, the guys kept taking smoke breaks which I did not appreciate that I had to pay for. Also, I saw one of the guys going in the garbage cans in my complex and pulling out stuff. I was outside in my car while they were moving me so I saw everything. This guy was also smoking while moving my stuff out of my apartment. I thought that was very unprofessional and inapproriate. No one every called me after to ask how my move went. I did not feel comfortable saying anything to them so I just let it go. I would not use this moving company again.

I was very dissatisfied with my move and would not recommend this company to anyone. The only person I would recommend is Donna, she has good customer service but outside of that it all went downhill. I was hoping to avoid a situation like this one and after reading reviews and seeing their BBB ranking, I thought this company might be ok.
When the movers arrived, they broke my desk and did not even say anything, in fact tried to hide it. Then they insisted on rewrapping uhaul boxes. I ended up paying an additional $ 300 in packing costs. I’ve never heard of needing to fully tape up uhaul boxes. These were not tattered boxes, they were new and in good shape — not even excessively heavy or overpacked. Just a scam to get additional money from me.
I scheduled it so my things would supposedly arrive only 2 days after I did. It ended up being 12 days later. So that was a bit of a pain but at least I can understand that and it is in their window of time according to the contract.
On a Monday, I received a call from a different company (SMS Relocation — where did Fix Price Move go???) that the movers would be here in the evening on Tuesday (between 1 – 5) to deliver my things and they did not show up until the next day. I didn’t even get a courtesy call that the move wouldn’t happen after I was expected to be home from work all afternoon. I did get a call from Alex on Tuesday morning that said «I hear there is a problem with your move» and I said «please explain, they are supposed to be here today from 1−5» and his response «Oh, I think I have the wrong person I will call you back.» He did not call me back and when at 5pm I had not received my stuff, I tried to call him back and no one would pick up the phone at Fix Price Move. When I called the contact number the woman from SMS had left me, I was put on hold for a very long time and then told the move wouldn’t happen until tomorrow (Wednesday). No time frame at all — just tomorrow. So that was an additional day I had to take off from work after taking off a half day the day before for nothing.
Then when the guy does show up he is incredibly unprofessional and he and his moving helper were screaming obscenities at each other the entire time they were unloading my things. Each of them were complaining to me about the other one. The driver was gross and kept lifting up his shirt exposing his belly to me while he stood uncomfortably close to me. Then when he would leave, his helper was trying to chat me up and kept stalling from unloading the truck. As a single girl, I felt very vunerable. Also, Donna had told me that the movers were full service. That they would put things where you directed them and put furniture pieces back together. That was SOO not the case. They dumped everything into my living room and when I tried to ask if they could at least help me move the couch to where it needed to be, they left it on its side and buried behind many boxes.
Then to top it off, 5 of my boxes didn’t even show up. I don’t know why this would surprise me since they were trying to drop off boxes to me that weren’t even mine. If I hadn’t caught them immediately I would have someone else’s stuff. But when I told the driver that we were missing things he told me he expected the boxes were mixed up in their next delivery and that he would call me to let me know when he would bring them back. That was 7 days ago and no word. Meanwhile, no one is returning my calls at Fix Price Move. It’s kind of like they fell off the map.
If they ever end up reimbursing or handling my missing 5 boxes claim, I will update this review. Just make sure that nothing super important is moved by them, I wouldn’t trust them. Perhaps if it wasn’t a long distance move it would be better because it wouldn’t be contracted out. However, I would still be wary.

Awesome! I had a last-​minute move because the Go Pro guys never showed up. Donna at Fix Price set me up to move the next day. Dan called me later that day to confirm the move and get any other instructions. They showed up 10 minutes early, were friendly, quick and professional and made everything so easy.

As we all know moving is not one of the more fun things to do in life, but Fix Price Move made this usually excruciating experience extremely pleasant. From their customer service team to the men who moved our stuff, the experience was friendly, flexible (we had to change our move date twice and they were quick to accommodate us), considerate (did not break anything) and very efficient (super fast!). Our apartment had 3 flights of stairs for the guys to manage and they did it with a smile on their faces. This company is also one of the few that does not charge additional for stairs. Going over the contract was very easy and there were no hidden charges or unloading fees. If there were going to be extra boxes used the movers let us know so that we could decide if we wanted to pay for them. The price for the 40 mile move was extremely fair. They were very careful with our things and knowledgeable about packing delicate items such as plants and lamps. I would recommend this company to any of my friends without hesitation.

I would recommend this company. They did a very good job for my move — handling, transporting etc was very professional. My move got done in just 3 hours which is the minimum for them. They never tried to waste time here and there to get it beyond 3hours. Couple of other things — They did not show up on the original time but gave me a call 4 hours ahead to let me know that they had an issue with their truck. They did show up on the new time they gave. I think it was a genuine case. They could improve the by reducing /​pre filling the paper work.

I would also like to highly recommend this company. They were extremely professional, very quick, and very thourough. They made one of the worst days of my life, much better by handling my move so easily and quickly. They packed everything expertly, handled many expensive pieces with extra care, and were courteous and polite to boot. Alex and his team also helped me set up my bed in about 5 – 10 minutes. It would have taken me hours. Burt who booked the call was also very professional and very good with follow up. I will never move without these guys again!
