Delicious and great service! My fiancé and I recently moved back to the Bay Area and have been looking far and wide(but forgot to look near home) for a place that has fish and chips! I like their twist on the tarter sauce… I dip my chips in it too!

I never knew of this place till a coworker mentioned that such a place does exist for some real fish & chips. Love coming to here because the service and food are all excellent. I have bringing all friends here for something different and they are all quite impressed. Definitely do check this place and enjoy the quality cod!!! Ah yes, one cannot forget their delicious stuffed mushrooms. Portions are excellent here as well as their price too.

This place is a Hidden gem! A must try! I love the food and staff are so friendly. They make everything from scratch, clam chowder and the fish and chips are my favorite. I’ve been there 4 times so far and they never disappoint. I will be back!

This place was bomb. They were super friendly. The guy helping us out was really enthusiastic like he really loved and cared about his job, truly passionate. I think that needs to be seen more of: people like him who run the business with pride and passion. Their service was over the top. It was a great experience overall: service and food. He was super nice, but going into the food experience: My boyfriend has been here before, but I was a first timer. We got the combination seafood platter to share, it had the oysters, scallops, prawns, and fish. I didn’t get to try the scallops just cause I was full, but everything was so tasty and not super greasy or oily at all, it was just crispy, melt in your mouth kind of amazing, tasted fresh. The french fries were crispy: I only had one handful or less just cause I don’t eat fries that much. The vegetables that came with it were good although I didn’t try their carrots. I’m glad the guy told us not to do half and half of rice and fries because it wouldn’t be enough which was great. My boyfriend had the fries with our plate and I got a side of rice(he doesn’t do rice and I don’t really do fries) and it was just the right amount. We chose a side of soup, calm chowder to be exact: I was a fan of theirs, but my boyfriend didn’t love their consistency: he said it was milky(I think he just meant it wasn’t as thick as what he was use to), but it was really good for me: it’s not that watery, it’s not super thick, but it’s creamy and just right. And along with their dinner rolls it was great. And he loved their dinner rolls as well. Background story: I’m not a fan of fish and chips, I like it, but I’ve never been in love with it nor do I eat french fries that much: most of my experiences were oily and just too much for me, but this I was in love with. My boyfriend loves fish and chips. He probably could eat this constantly here, for me: I think I could handle this place more than I normally would with fish and chips. They did forget one thing I ordered(but we weren’t charged that and I was too full to even say anything) Oh and try their UNAGI!!! It was so good, I wasn’t expecting, I honestly think it’s better than at any sushi restaurant I’ve been too(maybe even better than Sen Dai, I can’t recall).but do order more, I wanted more after we were done. I’m going to try their other sushi items next time and get more of that.

Great service and attentive staff like many other reviews have already shared. The restaurant has a modest casual interior but it looked clean and portions were good. The table next to us had to take home part of their meal.

I’ve come to this place because the food is pretty good. We’ve always given tips here because of their great service, especially from the owner of the son. But after I heard that my father in law went in by himself one day and that host said you haven’t been paying tips and that he HAS to pay tip… is completely greedy and ridiculous. We have ALWAYS given tips. I’m not sure if someone is stealing the tips we leave for them… But it’s not right to force people to pay tips(even though we always did). Completely unbelievable.

Awesome family-run neighborhood business! Everyone there is super nice. We asked him to order for us, basically, and we got just the right amount of food for my wife and I – an order of fried zucchini and split a #25(fried prawns and fried cod with chips.) Everything was cooked to perfection! Even the chips were perfectly crispy, too! All the condiments you could ask for and most homemade! What a find! We’ll be back!

Service is flat out amazing. The Asian waiter we got was super nice, courteous, and checked up on our table without being overbearing. Now onto the food, it’s alright. – Fried catfish: pass. – Fish & Chips: decent. – Tarter Sauce: has a hint of horseradish in which I personally don’t prefer. Reasonably price for the most part, especially if you take advantage of their 10 piece fish & chips for $ 42 deal for a large group or game day food hehe.

I found this place after searching(in vain) for good fish and chips in Newark. We walked in at 8:30, a half hour before closing. The owner’s son is THE most cheerful guy I have ever met. He recommended we dine in, said he would be «happy to serve us», and suggested that the hungry BF and I split an order of 2 fish &4 prawn w/chips. HA! The BF ordered that for himself and I got 2 pieces of fish w/chips. We were the only people waiting to be served and our food arrived in about 5 minutes. The fish was incredibly fresh and well cooked. We were warned it was VERY hot but still I managed to burn my mouth on the molten core of a fry. They don’t salt their food in the kitchen so dishes are served with salt and pepper, tartar sauce, ketchup, and cocktail sauce(malt vinegar and soy sauce are on the table). The BF likes mustard, which Half Penny doesn’t have in the kitchen, so our server went out and *bought some* to serve to us. That’s some serious 5-star service! I was thoroughly impressed. All in all, it was a decent price for the two of us(less than $ 30 before tip and we are stuffed). Price is comparable to getting fish and chips from BJs or a diner but way better quality. I look forward to my next visit.

Wow! BEST fish and chips I’ve ever had! Fish: No salt was added, purposely. The manager/our waiter instructed us to.1. Lemon 2. Salt 3. Vinegar 4. Tarter Sauce Fish had a GREATCRUNCH outside, and a super moist, and flaky inside. A perfect CHUNK of fish! 5⁄5 Fries: a balance of crunch outside, and soft inside! Just Perfect! 5⁄5 Bento Box Teriyaki chicken: we were told that the chicken was marinated in honey 4 days before it hits the grill.. Good flavor. 3⁄5 Rice: they use sushi rice! Just that extra tid bit makes a difference :) well cooked!

I love walking into places where you’re a familar face to the staff, in this case it was for my husband and you can tell he was at home. He used to come to this place at least once a week, if not once a month with his friends back in the day and took my here when we were dating. It’s about the best fish and chips I’ve had, almost neck in neck with Race Street Fish and Poultry. The host, Quan was a pleasure! He made sure we were taken care of and everything came out delicious. The décor is a little older/outdated but I feel that it gives it that«I can be myself» vibe. Just come and enjoy your company and food. Highly Recommend: –clam chowder –fried oysters –fish and chips Enjoy!

Fried broccoli sooo good. Also got the grilled snapper plate. Comes with rice, steamed veggies, rolls and chowder. Great deal for under $ 20. Should have come here sooner! Fried broccoli was good that’s true. My first comments were based on the pics I took. The snapper seemed to have been microwaved first and then grilled. It was horribly overcooked. So dry you had to cut it with a knife. The veggies n rice were ok but the chowder tasted like a butter and bacon mix which had the consistency of mashed potatoes. The tartar sauce tasted funny too, just like mayo and lime or something sour? I’m pretty disappointed with the food but the gentleman that was working behind the counter was very nice and polite. 5 stars to him!

Pretty decent spot for fish n chips. I aint a fish n chips expert(so far ive tried like 3 places) n im pretty sure everybody likes their batter a certain way. Id say that the batter here seemed a lil off to me but it still tasted good. The batter to fish/seafood ratio is very good. It wasnt overwhelming breaded. It was also crispy. I got the one pc fish and 5 pc scallop combo for $ 12. 6 pcs of scallop is $ 10 bux and if u order a piece of fish by itself its $ 4.75 so the combo was a steal since u also get chips(fries) with that. Actually you can even get rice instead of fries if u want… tho i hav no idea why u would lol Fish– Not the best ive had but good crisp and tasted fresh and big piece. Scallops– Big olé scallops. It was juicy, which is kinda weird since its fried but it gave it more of a fresh seafoody taste. I thought it tasted good. Chips(Fries) — The fries are like a thick cut steak fry. I think it coulda been cooked a lil more but thats preference. I also wish they salted it… Overall, this is def a good place for a quick lunch. Everybody is friendly there. Apparently u can order sushi and honestly the place looks like a sushi restaurant which i find strange but ill go with it lol
