The course offers a challenging round of golf for all golfer levels (4 tee locations) set in the beautiful, panoramic Milpitas foothills away from both traffic and housing developments — ten miles from the San Jose Airport. There is also a 22 stall driving range, two practice greens and a bunker/​green short game practice area for those wishing to either warm up or hone their short game. In addition, golf lessons are available from our teaching PGA Professional, Mark Dorcak. Our newly built clubhouse has wi-​fi.

History

Established in 1956.

Spring Valley was built with a little bit of luck and a lot of love. When Ray Anderson won the Irish Sweepstakes in the early 1950’s, he saw an opportunity to put his money to work.

In the early 1990’s, the Jetter family acquired the lease from Mr. Anderson’s widow. And in 1993 a new lease was awarded by Santa Clara County, giving the Jetters the opportunity to invest much needed Capital back into the facility. A brand new clubhouse and full service restaurant were designed and built. Many new tees and greens and a new irrigation system were installed. Parking lots were paved, cart paths installed, trees planted, holes redesigned, and perhaps most importantly, the drainage was completely reworked.

More than a couple of years have passed since the Jetters began to implement the vision they held for the course they love. But one thing is for sure, Spring Valley has kept up with the times and at it’s heart it remains the same, it’s still a place golfers love to call home.

I have to comment on the friendliness and positive manner this course staff conducts their customer relations. It’s just the best you’re going to find at a golf course anywhere. You are greeted with smiles and positive personal comments. It’s a family oriented wholesome healthy group of people and i compliment management on choosing such a great group.
What a contrast to the dismissive self absorbed conduct you are greeted with at many other neighboring courses.
I play year round and sometimes check out the conditions of nearby courses. Spring Valley is always in the best shape especially in the last several years with the renovations. Thank You Spring Valley Golf Course! Tom R

We had our wedding reception last 2013 from this place and it turned out very amazing. The manager is very accommodating and he makes sure that everything i need is being well taken care of. I would highly recommend this place for some big event especially weddings and birthdays to celebrate.

So, yesterday, my fiancée and I go out to play there. We teed off at around a quarter to three. Half way through hole 1, a groundskeeping staff on a motorized tiller (the one they use to mow the greens and fairway with) starts following us hole by hole! I mean, he is really on our heels. He even got on some of the greens while we were putting and we had to tell him to back off and wait farther away while we were finished with the hole! It ruined our whole experience, those things are noisy and it’s annoying as fuck to have someone just waiting right there for you to finish with your shot. Even after we told him to back off, we would barely pick up the flag to put it back in when he was already ripping and roaring through the green. That being said, I love Spring Valley. It’s a nice course, not too easy but not too difficult. Perfect for 90+ stroke players. I agree with previous reviews about the staff though, they can be unfriendly at times. Overall, a very good course and the green fees are extremely reasonable.

Had not been here in more than a decade. I recently played Summitpointe so it’s a natural comparison. The fairways and T boxes are generally in excellent shape. I played in a late afternoon with a cart, about $ 30. Course is short and fair, some blind shots. Greens are a little slow but maybe because it was late in the day.
I love the scenery, up against trails with some great views. Pleasant experience. Place is in pretty good shape for a muni. Lots of short par 4s and downhill par 5s to make you feel like a big hitter when you rip that 237 yard drive.

5 years since my first review of this course, so I thought it was time for a brief update.
1. You’ll note that more recent reviews tend to rate the course conditions better that earlier reviews. This reflects continued investments in the course. They’ve built or rebuilt many of the tee boxes, added combo tees, irrigation and drainage and continue to up their game when it comes to maintaining the course.
2. The greens are quite challenging due to complex and significant undulations and a number of greens with illusions. Oftentimes the landing areas that give you any reasonable chance at a 1-​putt are quite small.
3. I have literally played several hundred rounds at this course and I have never seen the pro shop staff do anything questionable. Over that time I have had the opportunity to see the staff deal with many *difficult* customers. If anything they are courteous and patient to a fault. Really, if someone is trying to get a deal that has expired or make some clearly unreasonable demand and they’ve explained the situation ten times clearly and courteously while the line keeps accumulating, what do you expect? Eventually, they are going to have to ask the person courteously to make a decision or step aside. Those are the only kind of *dissatisfied* folks I’ve ever seen in the Pro Shop.
4. Pace of play is typically 4 – 4 ½ hours though I don’t play a lot on Saturday or Sunday. Some weekdays 3 – 4 hour rounds without even jumping over a group. The rare exception is when you get behind a sizable tournament. The staff is usually really good at letting you know the conditions when you check in, or in the case of tournaments, when you call for a tee time.

I have only been to the driving range here, but I love coming here! It is secluded up in the hills and you feel like you have gotten out of the city and traffic. Prices are cheap at the driving range. They have a new machine that accepts credit cards. It is never busy during the weekdays. Great place to relax and golf!

Played here yesterday for the first time in 20 years (was away from golf). Was very pleased. Course is wide open in most places, and it’s very hard to lose a ball (I only lost 1, compared to my normal 3 – 6), which I enjoyed. I did play well, so maybe that was the reason I didn’t lose a ball (or vice versa?). You do have to hit over water on three holes. There is some elevation change and a few doglegs. There’s a snack shack you pass by on several holes, if you want something to eat or drink (no beer cart). The greens were fair but fast, on a couple of holes most of us hit it past the hole.
I read in other review about rude people and slow play. I found the pro shop staff polite, and we saw many friendly rangers all day, so perhaps they are trying to speed things up. Our round was 4.5 hours, which was good.
Did not eat at the restaurant, but the food looked good.

Fun course overall. Everything seems doable here even the water shots are setup to succeed, not fail like some courses. Kind of hard to find this place your first time, just keep going up the hill past ed levin park.
Nice driving range here.
They do have a stupid $ 2 cart key deposit. Seems like they are just hoping you wont come back for it since it is so little. Just an annoyance.
Open fairways, bad shots dont equal a lost ball all the time. I like this course and will play it again if they keept the fees reasonable.

I decided to try this golf course again last week after many years. I am sad to inform that this course gave me just as bad experience as before. The course itself is actually fun. The layout was interesting, yet challenging. The bad part is basically everything else. First, there is an extremely rude manager in the club house, I feel bad for the staff who works under his management. Second, the Marshall doesn’t do a good job to keep the pace of play. Expect to wait at a par 3 for 15 minutes or more, actually all par 3s. The length of play is about 6.5 hours, mostly waiting. We started around 12pm and reached 15th tee box at 5pm.
Like my previous review, just play somewhere else.

Your telling me when I call and ask for a tee time for 1 person. It’s your policy to not take single reservations. So hurry up and get to the golf course only to find out the tee time that was there is no longer there. Oh ok then when is the next tee time? 1 hour later, oh yeah I’ll wait around… Garbage!!!

This course has the worst tee time management. With only 7 minutes between tee times the course is packed and the pace of play is glacial.
I had a 3:07pm tee time, didn’t get to tee off until 3:20. The first 8 holes took just under three hours. When we did see the ranger he told us to do whatever we wanted to pass the time as it wouldn’t improve. We ended up playing 1 – 8, 18, and then 1 – 9 again just so we could actually finish the 18 holes of golf we paid for. We had to convince staff that it was ok to do so.
The course itself is in fairly decent condition but with poor time management I can say I will not go back. Such a shame as this could be a great place to play. What a waste of time and money. They need to learn better time management.

I don’t write very many reviews on Unilocal because i think word of mouth has lost it’s value since the dawn of foodies and hashtags. However, because i come here 2 – 3 times a week, i feel it maybe appropriate to share a blurb or two about this awesome course.
Spring Valley Golf Course & Restaurant is one of the best places to tee it high and let it fly. The tee boxes are always clean, fairways plush, greens soft, and service great. So whether if you’re looking to have your golf fix, or just hang out at the restaurant & bar, you can count on them to get the job done.
* Please excuse this tangent but you won’t have the best cell service here because it’s up Calavares and in the hills. However, i’ve thought about this long and hard and have decided that this is a good thing. A great thing actually, because it’s the EASIEST way/​excuse to duck your wife’s phone calls. (well played Spring Valley)
The club house and restaurant is employed by a lot of what seems to be average Joes who simply love the game. They’re always friendly and willing to chat. I’ve been to places where workers can be snooty and obnoxious, but not here. Everyone for the most part always has a smile on their face and can really hold a conversation about what ever you want to talk about. If Cheers was a golf club, this place would be it.
*Note to management, you have great guys and gals working for you, keep it up!

This is a great 18 hole course and the only reason I am not giving them a 5 star Unilocal is because of the Ranger here. I took my father to this course for fathers day and was paired up with another 2some. They were an older couple and a little slow, but we were not holding anyone up.
A few groups behind us about 4 back, were being held up by the group in front of them and were complaining so the Ranger came up to us to multiple times and wanted us to pick up and skip 3 – 4 holes, and I’m guessing along with the 2 groups behind us also.
I obviously refused as we were not holding anyone up, but was constantly being asked by the Ranger. I paid for 18 holes and plan on playing 18 especially since I’m not holding anyone up. This situation was handled very badly.
Other than that this is great course to play, nice long par 4’s and 5’s with a good amount of hazards, but not enough to make you want to rip out your hair. I am going to try this place one more time to see how the experience will be and see if they will continue to earn my business.

I didn’t get a chance to take a stab at the course itself (not yet!) but I had a lot of fun around the driving range. The range is pretty nice. There is plenty of space and plenty of room to take your swings. It’s a quiet environment so be careful cheering when you get a good hit. It’s also really embarrassing when you nick the ball and it ends up hitting the barriers. Trust me. Right beside it is a place to practice your putting and wedge shots. It IS a little cramped though so watch out.
The balls come out of a dispenser a short walk away. I can’t remember the other rates but I chose the $ 8 for 100 balls. Don’t forget to put the basket underneath the dispenser or you’ll end up having balls everywhere like what Kenny N.

On Monday, June 24th, we had our annual employee golf tournament at Spring Valley Golf Course. It was probably our 9th or 10th year at the facility. It’s funny, but the service, and the golf course, only get better each year.
We had unusual weather this year, chance of heavy rain in late June. Jeff, the General Manager, and his staff, gave us multiple options as we neared tee time. But just as they had assured, the course was in perfect, playable condition, the warm, humid clouds kept the sun off of us, and it was another perfect day.
The tournament provided us lunch and an exceptional NY steak dinner. The staff was courteous, friendly, helpful, and generally awesome. You can tell they truly appreciate hosting us at their facility and it shows.
We’ll be back… for many more years. To Jeff and your staff, a big THANK YOU from our golf committee. You make our jobs easy every year.

The course design has serious issues if you play blue tee. There are several ~280 par4s and ~200 par3s, which is ridiculous. The green is very thick and unpredictable. Fairway and rough are not well maintained. The price is also kinda high but its not uncommon in bay area.

Got stupid lost trying to find this place in the dark… once i found it, however, it’s like, oh… derrrr that should have been easy to get to!
Nice staff, nice course.
A bit pricey but I can see why. They have a nice club house and the place is so peaceful and nice.
I wonder if people that hate this place really do hate it or they’re saying they hate it to keep people away? LOL.

Midweek rate of $ 51 with cart is ridiculously overpriced. WALKING is $ 37, for goodness sakes! As far as the course goes, it’s fine. There are a couple of interesting «over the water» shots but otherwise it’s pretty much a typical muni type of course— until you get to the greens… I don’t want to be a complainer, but the greens are just plain no fun to play. Fast and tricky, this course requires a much better than average putter to 2 putt on these greens.
My advice is to drive a mile or so over to Summit Pointe. More scenic, and midweek walking rate is around $ 25!

I played SV today, but didn’t really like it. Everyone told me, «it’s great,» or «It’s better than Summitpointe.» No way! And I crushed Summit on Unilocal too — so this place really is extra weak.
Strange layout, two #2 holes, slow greens… It’s also a short course, only a par 70. The dudes in the pro shop were annoyed and aloof. The pace that day was so bad that my boy left me on the 16th because he couldn’t take it anymore — and the two regulars we were with were laughing because the pace was pretty good that day. To top that off, the rates are comparable to many much better courses. This place isn’t worth the $ 50 – 60 they stick you for.
In summary: should be much cheaper, because this is pretty much a beginners course. I think $ 35 to walk it would be appropriate. If it were more affordable, I’d move it to a 3 star.
