History

Established in 1928.

Founder Ben Hanoski opened the first Ben’s Cycle in his basement in 1928 while he repaired and rebuilt old bicycles to sell. Business grew so he bought the storefront on 1004 Lincoln Avenue In 1955, his son Larry took over the business, and when the 1004 building burned, Ben’s Cycle moved two doors down to the current building at 1018 W. Lincoln Avenue. Larry sold the business to his son Vince in 1992. Vince, who still owns Ben’s Cycle, expanded by buying the vacant Riviera Theater across the street for use as a warehouse, and another building at 1013 W. Lincoln as a second shop.

Vince Hanoski and his staff began the Milwaukee Bicycle Company in 2001, and the business now has nine bikes made in Wisconsin.

The Ben’s Cycle Pro Shop has road bikes at 1018 Lincoln, and Ben’s Cycle has recreational, commuter, and mountain bikes at 1013 Lincoln. And benscycle.com sells bicycle parts around the world.
