Had a terrible experience here in 2012, but posted it under the wrong«Cook’s» Listing. Sorry. I echo the sentiments that Cook’s needs a makeover, not just for the store, but for the attitudes of the sales associates. My husband and I were browsing while another friend shopped, and a woman very obviously followed us around without speaking to us. It felt like she thought we were going to take something. We arrived about an hour before closing time, and it was very clear that these women were anxious to go home. They were exasperated at my friends’ questions, and at the time it took us to pay. I had shifted our purchases down the check out counter and was bundling up my son before taking him out into cold, and the woman who checked us out said«EXCUSEME!» in an extremely loud, rude voice, because she wanted me to move COMPLETELY out of the way so that she could help the woman behind us. Reposting this in the right place two years later, I can still remember how uncomfortable the women at Cook’s made us feel. This is NOT the way to treat customers, and we will definitely not be returning.

This place has everything a bake or candy maker would ever want. It wouldn’t hurt them to update the store a bit though. I can tell they’ve been in the same location since 1980. The staff is very knowledgeable about everything and the samples are always delicious. Maybe put them somewhere a little more visible, though. The fact that there is two entrances is convenient, bit maybe add some sinagebto the register area so people know where to check out.

This store is pretty no-frills, but it is a cake baker/decorators dream. From cake boards and boxes to dyes and toppers, there isn’t much you could need or want to create a stellar cake that Cook’s doesn’t carry. I love that I can buy a single cake board or box or stock up on them. A sheet cake board is like $ 1.69 and a 9″ round is like $ 0.20, both of which are incredibly reasonable. I love that they carry large and small bottles of gel coloring — it’s so much better and easier to use. I’m buying a few colors every time I go to start stocking up. They have limited Saturday hours, which frustrates me sometimes, but now that I know I can plan for it. They also change their hours between Memorial Day and Labor Day. There is no where else in town that carries the selection that Cook’s does. If you’re making a specialty cake, this has to be your first stop.
