History

Established in 1966.

The David Barnett Gallery is Wisconsin’s premier gallery and has the most diverse range of art available in any Wisconsin gallery, including works of art that represent more than 600 artists.

The gallery specializes in European and American masters, regional and nationally recognized artists, and «emerging» Wisconsin artists. Latin American, Asian, and African American artists also adorn the gallery along with Ethnographic art from Africa, Indonesia, and Oceania

Meet the Business Owner

David B.

Business Owner

Believe it or not, David started the gallery when he was 19 years old. The gallery’s first location was at 2101 W. Wisconsin Avenue, where it was called the Grand Avenue Gallery. In 1985, he moved the gallery to its current location at the beautiful Button Mansion located at 1024 E. State Street. David studied Arts and Art History and is also an artist himself. He is a philanthropist, having donated thousands of dollars of art to local businesses and organizations.

The first time I visited DB Gallery was in ’08 with my aunt, a Milwaukee historian. Then I finally returned 4⁄13 for Gallery Night & Day with a good friend of mine. She was absolutely taken with the gallery, and I loved walking the halls again with new vision. We were enthralled. I can’t wait to go back!

Walking inside David Barnett Gallery was both overwhelming and breathtaking. Diverse art treasures from all over the world are packed into every space, from floor to ceiling.
On my visit, I encountered museum-​worthy Impressionist paintings and thousand-​year-​old African statuary. Downstairs, contemporary art — a good deal of it from regional artists — filled the space to the brim. A true visual treasure hunt.
