Lake Bluff Shell

I don’t like this gas station because of its «pay before you pump» mentality but yesterday’s experience sealed the deal — I will never return.
The place was slammed and I was in a hurry. Never a good start. Dude at the pump was having trouble getting the gas pump to work. He was in line ahead of me asking about it. The dude working hurriedly dismissed him and sent him back out. He continued to have problems. Meanwhile I pay for my gas, note that I’m next in line on the pump and wait. Magically, the dude having problems got gas…$ 20…the exact amount I paid. He left and… you guessed it… the pump didn’t work for me.
I went in once and dude working dismissed me, saying he would fix it. Now I’m worried because I paid cash. I try to get the guy’s attention but he never looks out the window. I go in a second time and he says he’s fixing it. I go back out to the pump and no go. I go in a fourth time and wait in line while other customers pay to get his full attention. I ask for my money back cause I got no gas and dude working accuses me of stealing from him. He says an audit of the pump shows the gas is gone. I’m livid by this time and dude has the audacity to tell me to calm down because he doesn’t want to deal with me because I’m angry. Let me tell you, saying that line to a woman is just about as effective as trying to corral a group of cats. I got angrier. He plugs the pump, I get my gas and leave.
There won’t be a next time for this mishap because I’m never going back. This was the worst service I’ve ever experienced.

I actually don’t regularly gas at this station, but I find myself visiting on a regular basis to purchase much needed provisions for my husband, my cat, and myself. We would surely die of thirst and/​or late night munchies if Lake Bluff Shell did not exist.
Can a gas station have…
A sense of humor? Totally.
A free library? Hmm-​hmm.
Animal print bags? Yes, please.
Play music that isn’t Top 40 or Country? Yup.
Super nice attendants who would win gas station attendant beauty pageants, if such things did exist? All of the yeses.

The lower east side has a serious shortage of gas stations. This one often times is the station of choice, as nothing else is closer. It’s conveniently off of Farwell, but because of one way streets this is only great if you’re heading south. Also, the prices are always higher than other stations, probably because they don’t really have to compare on prices. Not terrible, which I guess for a gas station that’s an accomplishment.

As far as gas stations go, this one isn’t bad… if you’re buying anything but gas. The fact that it’s at least 30 cents more than anywhere else in this city makes me MAKE sure I don’t drive on E, ever! That said, it’s in a prime location, mainly it’s close to my place, and it’s nice if you want to grab a quick soda or have a sweet tooth. They have air, 50 cents for 2 minutes which is nice. All in all they’d get more biz if they weren’t so overpriced.

A gas station… near downtown? YOU DON’T SAY!
If it wasn’t 30 cents more expensive than gas stations 5 miles away, I’d probably give it another star. The guy working the counter was personable, they have a decent convienience store selection… but yeah, if you really need gas or anything, you should probably find a spot a couple miles away and save a couple bucks.

Well it has anything you could expect to have at a gas station, but mainly, it is just good because it of the location. There is not really very many gas stations near downtown it really does not have very many to compete with.

Ahck. Funny. Useful, and maybe, cool.
Hilarious signage, as others have noted. This gas station has personality, and I get can behind that. The people, they appreciate that sort of thing. I know I do.
They have stuff, and also things, and also gas. They have gas.
(Stuff = a good selection of bites/​snacks, things = a good smattering drinks, also, they carry a lot of miscellany.)
Four stars for a fun, convenient gas station situated right between the lower east side and East Town/​almost downtown.
They’ve got gas.

This Shell is located right where I think of the east side meeting downtown, and is very convenient to get in and out of. I’ve heard super cool music playing here a few times and the clerks are super friendly in a casual way.

I do not own a vehicle, nor do I shop at gas stations very often, but a good friend lives in the apartment across the street and the boyfriend drives, so every now and then, this gas station and I cross one another.
They have a sense of humour, and I love that the owner (appears to be) is casual. College students are usually working at this location, and are always pretty pleasant.
And like another guy said, they do have many, many flavours of blunt wraps, just sayin’.

Very few gas stations I’ve been to have had a sign over the checkout counter saying «no crying on premises.»
The gas is expensive because this is pretty much it for gas on the lower eastside/​downtown area.
Good selection of food/​coffee/​bevys and other random items.

Truly the perfect gas station. Clean, friendly clerks, modern amenities and products, and a few hidden gems if you pay close attention.
Oh, and they have every flavor blunt wrap you’d ever want. Just sayin’.

Ok so I gotta give a shout out to this shell station. They are on the way to my internship and I walk past every day. When I am running late or have no food in my house I stop at shell to pick up my lunch and snacks for the day.
They sell cute little fish sandwiches here, in pairs. I snagged one the other day and ate it on my way to work and for gas station food it was pretty damn good. Although I can’t help but wonder «what kind of fish am I eating and where is it from?»
