I had a worker’s compensation claim back in 2012 and had been getting physical therapy for several months. One day, I received notice from the worker’s comp insurer that I had to go to an exam by their doctor. I called several worker’s comp attorneys, and Derzon and Menard were fastest to respond and the only ones interested in taking the case.
Bob Menard called me personally, and insisted I speak to him in person rather than over the phone. I took off work and went to his office, where he pushed me into signing a retainer (he expressed annoyance when I wanted to read it over). He promised me that he would NOT act and would not contact the worker’s comp insurer, that this retainer was just in case I did need representation and said that he and I would talk after my exam.
The next day, I contacted the insurer about something. The representative told me to «not contact them again» because everything «must go through my attorney». What? He expressly told me that he would not contact the insurer until we discussed further. I was then cut off from all communication with the insurer.
I went to the exam, and a week or so later got a formal letter from the insurer that they were cutting me off benefits. This was extremely upsetting. I call the Derzon and Menard office. I left several voicemails. I emailed Bob Menard’s assistant. Over and over. I did not get a response from anyone.
I called Bob Menard again. He answered the phone this time. I started to talk about my case and he said «I told you I closed your case». What? When?! He most certainly did not! I DEFINITELY would have remembered that. I was under the impression I was represented. I asked why, now in tears. He said «because you don’t need surgery». I said, wait, they cut me off benefits, this is why I contacted you, this is why I signed that retainer. He said «I told you we don’t take the case unless you need surgery». He most certainly did not! I asked why he didn’t respond to my multiple voicemails or emails, he said goodbye.
To add insult to injury, every year on my birthday I get a card from this firm and a fridge magnet. I’ve twice called and left voicemails telling them to take me off their list.
At the time, I was working in the legal field. I am not an un-​savvy legal consumer. Bob Menard told me he wouldn’t contact the insurance company, and he lied about this and contacted them immediately. He did not return my phone calls or emails, and then lied to me and told me that he expressly contacted me to tell me he was rejecting my case. I would never recommend this firm to anyone, do not get taken advantage of and lied to like I was. You deserve an attorney who keeps their word, and at the very least tells you they don’t want your case rather than lying about it and leaving you hanging by not returning your repeated calls.

The people here are very nice. They made me feel comfortable. They also explained everything really well. I would recommend these attorneys to anyone!
